Did That Just Happen?! UFC 328 Reaction & Full Breakdown
Alonzo Hernandez · Watch on YouTube · Generated with SnapSummary · 2026-05-10

00:00 Hey man, listen today, if you would have

00:02 told me

00:04 a few hours ago, hey man, Sean

00:05 Strickland took the belt away from

00:07 Hamzat Chimaev, held him down for 3

00:09 minutes, I would have thought you were

00:11 absolutely tripping. This card was

00:13 absolutely insane, bro. UFC 328, nothing

00:17 but bangers. The story that I think most

00:20 people are going to be talking about is

00:22 Sean Sean Strickland stealing the show,

00:25 winning via split decision. And let's be

00:27 honest, no one thought Sean Strickland

00:29 was going to win this fight. Yeah, yeah,

00:31 you know, he beat Israel Adesanya in his

00:33 prime. No one does that. Who does that

00:35 to Israel Adesanya? But for real, who's

00:38 going to beat a prime Hamzat Chimaev?

00:41 Okay? Who's going to do that?

00:44 I don't know how Sean Strickland does

00:46 it, but when it comes to beating the

00:49 best, he just goes Goku mode. And

00:51 honestly, there was a few key moments in

00:54 that fight. First key moment, I would

00:56 say, is making Hamzat Chimaev pull

00:59 guard. I don't know if there was an

01:00 injury or anything going on, but seeing

01:03 Hamzat Chimaev just sit down and just

01:05 lay on his back like Charles Oliveira, I

01:08 knew something was wrong. Something

01:09 shifted right there, right? Sean

01:11 Strickland was putting up volume, just

01:13 didn't seem like he was just sealing the

01:14 deal. There wasn't a lot of like landing

01:16 on the punches. There wasn't a big when

01:18 he connected. During the fifth round,

01:20 Sean Strickland had this like Uchi Mata

01:22 attempt that was huge, you know? He was

01:25 able to fight back for position when he

01:27 got on the cage, he was able to to fight

01:29 for the underhooks and push out, get

01:30 back up to the feet. And Hamzat Chimaev

01:33 was just whiffing. His nose was leaking.

01:35 He was bloodied up. And we saw Hamzat

01:39 fade a lot during that fight. Strickland

01:42 kept on putting on the pace, and he is

01:44 the champion yet again in the

01:45 middleweight division.

01:47 Absolutely

01:48 insane. So, let's talk about the co-main

01:51 as well. Joshua Van versus Tatsuro

01:53 Taira. This was just as crazy, if not

01:55 crazier than the main event. This is

01:57 Joshua Van's first title defense as a

02:00 champion. A lot of people aren't saying

02:02 like he really deserves to be holding

02:04 that belt, but here we are going against

02:06 a formidable opponent opponent in

02:08 Tatsuro Taira. And man, I was stressing.

02:11 I was stressing because I was like I

02:13 have Joshua Van winning this fight, but

02:15 Tatsuro Taira and his grappling looked

02:18 very very high level, especially in the

02:19 first two rounds. Like Joshua Van just

02:22 just couldn't do anything. He was on the

02:23 ground

02:25 just finding out a positions. Van was

02:26 fine to get up, but Tatsuro Taira was

02:28 just mounting him going to side control.

02:30 And it looked very dangerous. Until

02:33 Joshua Van drops Tatsuro at the end of I

02:36 think I believe round two.

02:38 And that's when the shift started right

02:40 there. That's when Joshua Van found his

02:42 his timing and found his pace and he was

02:44 just connecting on Tatsuro over and over

02:46 and over again. And it was looking

02:48 pretty bad. Like Tatsuro got dropped a

02:50 few times.

02:51 And it looked like the fight was about

02:53 to get about to get stopped. They let it

02:55 go.

02:56 And going into the third and fourth like

02:59 it was a back and forth. Tatsuro Taira

03:00 Tatsuro had a crazy triangle attempt

03:03 like off his back. Honestly, I thought

03:04 he would have had it too. Like he had a

03:06 triangle and a armbar at the same time.

03:08 And I'm like, oh my gosh, Joshua Van

03:10 he's in a lot of danger right here. Then

03:12 we go into the fifth round. Joshua Van

03:16 still playing the pace on Tatsuro and he

03:18 he he drops Tatsuro ripping the body.

03:22 But I do think the ref stopped it early.

03:24 And I hate to be that guy because um you

03:27 know, Joshua Van did get the TKO. He did

03:30 put a lot of damage on. I just felt like

03:32 the

03:33 shots that he had earlier did more than

03:34 where the fight was actually stopped.

03:36 And I did a post on my Instagram story

03:38 to do a poll. Seems like people are kind

03:40 of divided on on if it was early or not.

03:42 And I think it was. I think if Herb Dean

03:44 would have ref'd that fight, they would

03:46 have kept on going. It's a championship

03:48 fight. It's not like it's just an

03:49 exhibition or a three round fight. If if

03:51 things get that crazy and is that close,

03:55 I think it is best to let the fight run

03:58 run out or, you know, have more damage

04:00 be done rather than calling it early.

04:03 You know, I know it's a tough situation

04:04 to be in, especially if you're a

04:06 referee. You got adrenaline pumping, but

04:08 I do think Tatsuro Taira was very upset

04:11 after that stoppage and I do think that

04:13 they should have let it go. Uh and see

04:15 what it what happened. Let me know what

04:16 you guys think before we go on to the

04:18 rest of the card because I do think that

04:19 fight was stopped early and I wanted

04:21 Vanda to win, trust. I don't, you know,

04:24 trust, but uh

04:27 I do I do want to know what you guys

04:28 thought about that.

04:30 And then we have some great fights.

04:31 Volkov versus Waldo Cortes da Costa. I

04:34 don't know why people are saying that

04:36 Cortez should have won that fight.

04:38 Volkov, he won the early rounds. Like he

04:40 was laying a lot of calf kicks. He had

04:42 the more volume throughout the fight. 88

04:44 strikes compared to 54. Yeah, Waldo had

04:46 more, you know, power behind his

04:48 punches,

04:49 but Volkov connected more and I think

04:51 that's what literally just won him the

04:52 rounds. There was no takedowns. There

04:54 was just significant strikes and volume

04:56 and I believe volume uh showed

04:59 throughout that fight. Even though I

05:00 wanted Cortez da Costa to win, Volkov

05:02 ended up getting the dub. Now, Joaquin

05:04 Buckley, he got robbed, bro. I don't

05:06 know what to say. Like he it was he was

05:08 playing his game and we're in Joaquin

05:09 Buckley's world and Sean Brady somehow

05:11 won.

05:12 No, I'm just playing, bro. But like Sean

05:14 Brady just completely dominated Joaquin

05:16 Buckley. Same type of fight with Usman

05:18 and Buckley and Buckley had Usman help

05:20 him train for the last year.

05:23 I'm a Buckley fan. I'm not saying I

05:25 don't like Buckley, bro.

05:27 It's just the grappling. The grappling

05:28 at this level is just insane. He had to

05:30 deal with Sean Brady with submission

05:32 attempts, kimuras, guillotines. It's

05:35 just a different game and Joaquin

05:36 Buckley has to learn how to adapt

05:38 before, you know, calling anybody out in

05:40 the welterweight division. It's

05:41 back-to-back

05:43 um

05:44 losses like this and it doesn't get much

05:46 worse. Besides getting finished, it

05:47 doesn't get much worse on the ground.

05:49 So,

05:50 now shout out Sean Brady for getting the

05:52 dub, but Joaquin Buckley, like

05:54 I'm interested to see what's what's

05:55 going on with that cuz

05:57 very, very interesting. King Green on a

06:00 three-fight win streak, bro.

06:02 Three-fight win streak against Jeremy

06:03 Stephens. Yeah, I get it. He's a little

06:05 older, but dude, it's freaking Bobby

06:07 Green.

06:08 He's on a three-fight win streak.

06:11 Give him Ilia. I think you just give him

06:13 straight to Ilia Topuria. And we see

06:15 what what happens there, all right? I

06:16 think King Green, great fighter. He's a

06:19 little showman, showboat. Plus, he does

06:21 the little Triple H thing at the end of

06:22 the fights. I think that's a dub. All

06:24 right. Auteber Gautier and Azamat Diaz.

06:26 Yeah, our boy Azamat, you know, he lost.

06:29 I think he he he put up a good fight.

06:30 You know, Auteber

06:32 hasn't really fought

06:34 someone someone that that really gives

06:37 him a test, really. And I think if

06:39 Auteber fights somebody like a Joe

06:42 Pyfer, I'm there for it. Throw it on.

06:44 Throw it on. I'm down to see something

06:46 like that.

06:47 Azamat Diaz is just getting fed freaking

06:49 animals, though, bro. Auteber Gautier,

06:51 Azamat Diaz, it is it's tough because

06:54 Azamat Diaz, he does have the talent. He

06:56 does have the of what it takes to be

06:58 able to be good in the division, but

07:01 Auteber gets another knockout, okay?

07:04 This is where my picks start going wrong

07:06 throughout the throughout the day. Had

07:07 you all Alvarez like for sure. I'm like,

07:10 this guy, he's going to get a submission

07:12 win.

07:13 Movsar just completely dominates

07:15 grappling-wise. He ends up getting a

07:17 submission, takedown, right into an arm

07:19 triangle, and it was a very, very strong

07:21 arm triangle cuz you saw all the all his

07:23 muscles in his back activated. And it

07:25 was wraps from right there.

07:27 And then, you know, going down the card,

07:29 we you know, I I don't I'm not trying to

07:31 brag or anything, but our first our

07:32 first six picks

07:34 all hit, bro.

07:35 Six for six, and then stuff started

07:38 getting a little fuzzy. And we got we

07:41 got Contender Mix, and we started, you

07:43 know, missing out some picks, but Grant

07:44 Dawson

07:45 great win against Mateusz Rebecki. Good

07:48 good opponent. He was a favorite, round

07:50 three submission. Few of the uncs got

07:52 submissions, which is which is great.

07:54 Like Jim Miller. Jim Miller also an unc,

07:56 a underdog getting a submission at the

07:58 age of 42.

08:00 So, his record's going up. I think he

08:02 has the most lightweight wins in his in

08:05 UFC history and he just racked up

08:07 another submission win. He's up there

08:09 with Charles Oliveira. So, shout out Jim

08:11 Miller. A lot of people didn't really

08:12 believe in him, but he got it done.

08:15 Roman Kopylov versus Marco Tulio. What a

08:18 what a scrap. Kopylov got that dog in

08:20 him. He's not going to back down. He was

08:22 he was in the he was in the rough for a

08:23 little bit, first round. Second round he

08:25 ends up dropping Tulio a couple times

08:28 and then uh just sealing off the win

08:30 with a unanimous decision, which was

08:32 which is great. Another underdog that we

08:34 took. Uh this fight I absolutely hated,

08:37 bro. Sabatini versus William Gomes. What

08:39 a boring fight, bro. I had Sabatini

08:41 Sabatini winning this fight, but I

08:44 wanted Gomes to win.

08:45 And the more I watched the fight, I'm

08:47 like, "Gomes, please just land something

08:49 when it goes comes back to the feet."

08:51 Sabatini just kept on spamming holding

08:54 this just holding him against the cage,

08:56 bro. He just kept on spamming the

08:57 takedown, spamming everything else and

08:59 it just felt like that that one guy you

09:02 go against who just use the same move

09:04 over and over and over. He doesn't want

09:05 to try anything new, but he still wins.

09:08 That's exactly how it felt. So, um I

09:10 hated that fight, bro. Got to be

09:12 straight up. Uh Susukayev versus

09:15 Dejourne Santos.

09:16 Susukayev with a I'm not trying to hate,

09:20 but, you know, a lackluster performance

09:23 against Dejourne Santos. Some someone

09:25 that Susukayev should be able to finish

09:28 uh fairly quickly as a minus 700

09:30 favorite. Susukayev still uh gets a

09:32 takedown in the third and lands a

09:34 submission, but But did look like, you

09:35 know, Susukayev was was struggling just

09:38 for a little bit, you know, on the end

09:39 of the first round, the beginning of the

09:40 second round.

09:41 Where

09:43 uh Santos was landing a few shots.

09:44 Suchakaya was wearing it on his nose,

09:46 like his face was really red. And yes,

09:48 Suchakaya was going to land a few emotes

09:50 here and there. Maybe that's why it

09:51 just, you know, kind of rubbed me the

09:53 wrong way, but like I said, with the

09:54 middleweight division, give Suchakaya

09:57 Ateba, and we'll just we'll just see how

09:59 it goes right there. And we'll we'll see

10:01 who if Suchakaya could prove uh the

10:03 people wrong. But that's just my opinion

10:05 on that. And Jose Ochoa versus Clayton

10:08 Carpenter,

10:10 honestly, this should win performance of

10:12 the night. Maybe not with Sean

10:13 Strickland. Honestly, maybe maybe not

10:15 performance of the night, but dude, give

10:17 Ochoa a bonus, bro. The striking from

10:20 Jose Ochoa was an absolute masterclass.

10:22 I haven't seen someone just connect the

10:24 combination, switch them up, just being

10:26 unpredictable throughout the entire

10:28 fight. I got to give it to Clayton

10:29 Carpenter, though, cuz he pushed forward

10:31 the entire fight, no matter how bloody

10:33 he was. He kept on pushing the pace.

10:36 Plus, his jiu-jitsu's really good. There

10:38 was a few like attempts with leg locks,

10:40 and he jumping on Ochoa's back right

10:42 away, where it looked pretty dangerous.

10:44 But Ochoa, like I said, his striking is

10:46 just on another level, bro. And uh man,

10:49 this whole this whole card was actually

10:51 a banger, bro. So this is why I love the

10:53 UFC so much. When when I'm watching

10:55 fights like Van versus Tyra, going into

10:57 the fifth 2-2, same thing, back-to-back

11:00 fights, Hamzat Strickland 2-2 going into

11:02 the fifth. It's like this is where all

11:04 the marbles are, bro. And you got to

11:06 fight you got to see who's going to win.

11:08 You could have a hunch, you could you

11:09 could have a a feeling that this guy's

11:11 going to win, this guy's going to win,

11:13 but we really don't know until the the

11:15 freaking

11:17 it's on the line. And it definitely was

11:19 on the line, and Sean Strickland and

11:20 Joshua Van are victorious. I feel bad

11:23 for Tatsuro Tyra, bro. Like he literally

11:24 could have brought Japan or UFC to

11:27 Japan, and be the first Japanese UFC

11:30 champion. Like that was

11:31 that was on the line and Hamzat Chimaev

11:33 defending the belt for the first time.

11:35 That was on the line as well. Now

11:37 there's, you know, a road back to the

11:40 belt and I do think Joshua Van fights uh

11:44 Alexandre Pantoja

11:46 and we'll get that fight soon. I

11:47 definitely think that it was definitely

11:49 needed. I definitely think it was needed

11:52 for Van to win to be able to have that

11:54 match-up yet again.

11:55 And who I don't know who Strickland

11:58 fights, maybe Imavov for the

11:59 championship for middleweight, but

12:02 all in all, amazing card. Wanted to just

12:04 talk to you guys for a little bit. I

12:06 feel like I I haven't really done a

12:08 reaction in a long time, maybe since

12:10 Paddy Pimblett and Gaethje, but I really

12:12 want to know you guys' thoughts on this

12:13 type of uh this type of card. I had tons

12:15 of fun watching it and I feel like these

12:17 scraps are are really are really what

12:20 life's all about, bro. I really think

12:21 so. I feel like you could really tell

12:23 who really wants it and who doesn't and

12:25 I feel like we're able to see who really

12:27 wanted it tonight. So, make sure to

12:28 leave a like, subscribe and stay tuned

12:30 for more. Love you guys. Be safe. We

12:33 out.

12:34 Peace.
