Basher Watts · Watch on YouTube · Generated with SnapSummary · 2026-09-05

00:06 Yes guys, welcome back to honest day

00:08 book making. We're here at Royal Ascot

00:10 on the final day. I'm joined by Khan,

00:12 head of book making, head of on course

00:13 book making for Star Sports. Khan, talk

00:15 me through the week. Are you battered

00:16 and bruised or are you eating steak for

00:18 dinner?

00:18 >> I think we're more battered and bruised.

00:19 It's like a scene out of Saving Private

00:21 Ryan. It's It's been a very very tough

00:23 week. I mean, you wouldn't believe after

00:25 three races we were 50,000 pound up. 10

00:28 bob Tony

00:29 was a wonderful result and we thought if

00:30 this is a sign of things to come, we'll

00:32 be in the Ritz by Friday. Well,

00:34 unfortunately they were camping in the

00:35 middle of the track last night the guys

00:37 because we took an absolute battering

00:39 all week. Day one obviously Beau Echo

00:42 won and on the day I think we done

00:43 around 150,000

00:45 pounds. Day two Ombudsman won. We done

00:48 about 200,000 pounds. Day three

00:52 we added a bit more damage. Scandinavia,

00:54 we knocked out around quarter of a

00:55 million. So we're half a million behind

00:57 after three days and we thought right

00:59 yesterday's a few short ones. This is

01:01 This is either going to be fantastic or

01:02 we're going to be stretchered off and

01:04 unfortunately precise winning and

01:07 Causeway winning, we laid two monstrous

01:09 bets and we're now nearly a million

01:10 pounds behind on the week.

01:11 >> A million pounds behind, my heart bleeds

01:13 for you. Um one thing I've one thing

01:15 I've always wondered is like how much

01:17 cash do you have to bring? If I wanted

01:18 to come and have 250 grand on, would you

01:20 pay me out in cash or how how would you

01:23 >> Obviously from a compliance point of

01:24 view we we'd be obviously that sort of

01:27 the these type of bets are laid to

01:29 clients that are well known and and have

01:32 run through all that sort of

01:32 documentation.

01:34 Um but we have large customers come up,

01:36 we do checks um and and we speak to

01:38 them, check they're okay and you know

01:40 If they If they want to bet we're at

01:41 Royal Ascot, we're at Cheltenham.

01:44 We've seen some good bets this week as

01:45 as with every bookmaker. It's It's quite

01:47 worrying that I've had a few bookmakers

01:48 come up to me and say they're actually

01:49 doing okay. I mean, the most of them

01:50 around me are saying they're in the

01:52 they're in bad positions. I mean, not to

01:54 the levels we are. We want to promote

01:56 the ring. You know,

01:57 when you see this place today in the

01:59 last few days, it's absolutely buzzing.

02:01 And it's a great pastime. Horse racing,

02:03 dog racing, sport. People love a flutter

02:05 as well. And it doesn't matter any

02:06 stake, we'll take

02:08 from a change point of view, we don't

02:09 want to keep doing all the changing the

02:10 one pound coins, but if somebody wants a

02:11 pound each way and they've got the

02:12 change, we'll take it. And we'll take

02:14 any bit up. Look, yesterday we took six

02:16 figure bets, so we'll take them top to

02:17 bottom.

02:18 >> And what is your biggest bet you've laid

02:19 so far this week?

02:20 >> We laid a 330,000 pound bet at 10 to 11

02:23 Causeway yesterday, which at one point

02:24 we thought the Amore Racing horse was

02:26 going to save our day. Well, it save our

02:27 day, you know, give a little bit back,

02:29 but we'd already done

02:31 laid a 275,000

02:33 pound bet at 8 to 11 on Precise earlier

02:35 in the day, so on the day we managed to

02:37 knock out nearly half a million

02:38 yesterday. So, yeah, the the shoulders

02:40 are dropped from the team. Morale is

02:41 low. One of our team members today is is

02:43 his birthday. He's

02:45 He's He's nearly at some big big

02:46 numbers. We couldn't put any candles on

02:48 it for safety. We bought him two donuts

02:49 to try and liven the team up. So, it's

02:51 been a it's been a really tough week.

02:52 >> Okay, well, this is obviously the final

02:54 leg. You're either going to finish in

02:55 clover or behind. I'm going to be

02:57 showing all the figures and seeing how

02:58 the guys end up.

02:59 >> Couple of horses you need to get beat

03:01 today. Who are they?

03:02 >> They're the two short ones, Sabre Star

03:03 and two names elude me.

03:05 >> The Australian sprinter.

03:06 >> Yeah, the Australian sprinter. The Jolly

03:08 Star. Look, they're they're 6 to 4, 13

03:11 to 8. We want these big punters coming

03:12 in again today because at this point,

03:14 look, the boss says it's only Lent,

03:15 we'll go again. We had a wonderful

03:16 Cheltenham, we had a wonderful Greyhound

03:18 Derby. We have bad weeks. I mean, this

03:20 is a really bad week, but it's it's the

03:22 long game we play. We're here, as I

03:24 said, we're trying to promote the

03:25 betting ring for all.

03:26 If anyone out there ever wanted to do

03:28 it, come and get involved. It's it's a

03:30 wonderful sport. Right, well, as you

03:31 said, you had a great Cheltenham, you

03:33 had a great Greyhound Derby. This one is

03:34 for the punters. I'm cheering on the

03:35 shorties. Let's see how we get on.

03:48 >> Okay, so the horses are down at the

03:49 start. How how are we looking for the

03:50 first?

03:51 >> Uh lively lively opener. Obviously, the

03:53 favorite in here Carry The Flag for the

03:55 Aidan O'Brien fan club.

03:57 It's It's It's been very We've got it at

03:58 the minute as a loser for 79,000. We've

04:01 laid a 25,000 pound bet at 3 to 1. The

04:03 early business we laid 5,000 at 12 to 1

04:05 Fanshawe Bay. So, we're looking to get

04:07 them beat. They're very red at the

04:09 minute in the book.

04:10 We don't want to see any purple colors

04:11 going past in front of us.

04:13 >> Okay, so if Carry The Flag wins, you

04:14 lose 79 grand. If Fanshawe Bay

04:17 wins, you lose 28 grand. Anything else

04:19 is a 30 grand winner.

04:20 >> Yes, sir. Or a little bit more for the

04:21 the ones down of it. Anything else, give

04:23 us a break.

04:23 >> Come on. Come on the jolly. Let's get

04:25 the favorite over to the first.

04:27 Okay, we are off and running.

04:29 That's not good. Fanshawe Bay is in

04:32 Oh, yeah, you're leading at the

04:34 Your big loser is leading. It's in the

04:36 middle, Fanshawe Bay. Far side orange,

04:39 Agamon.

04:41 We need this one to come out the crowd.

04:44 Down the middle, Orthodox. That will do.

04:52 Goliath pops, Orthodox wins the first.

04:54 Is that a good result?

04:56 >> It's a good result.

04:57 >> 31,270.

05:00 >> should have been here all week.

05:01 >> Okay, so as things stand, plus 31,270

05:06 on race number one.

05:07 >> It is indeed, yeah. That's a good start.

05:08 We were a bit worried there about two

05:10 furlongs out cuz the original bogey was

05:12 just in front. But, it's absolutely

05:14 flown home down the middle of the track,

05:15 isn't it? Orthodox.

05:17 It starts balls. There's nothing

05:18 Orthodox about us.

05:19 >> [laughter]

05:20 >> All right, it's 1-0 to the bookies. On

05:22 race number two, how are we looking?

05:24 >> Uh, quite lively again. Kelp Forest

05:26 they've come for. I'm just going to get

05:28 the slip.

05:31 We have laid 30,000 at 5 to 2 Kelp

05:33 Forest. So, we don't really want to see

05:34 the Juddmonte winner who was a twice

05:35 winner on Champions Day, I believe.

05:37 >> And is that the only the only red one in

05:38 the book?

05:39 >> That is the only red one. It currently

05:40 loses us 70,000 pounds. I just need to

05:42 check the runners are off the board.

05:44 They are. The QR code they can

05:45 advertise.

05:47 Everything else is green. So, think

05:49 that's that's the one that's the late

05:50 money. That's the one we're probably

05:51 cheering on. Okay, 72,958

05:54 in the red if Calparno can win for

05:56 Juddmonte. Let's see how this plays out.

05:58 >> Turning for home, are you happy or are

06:00 you worried?

06:01 >> I'm a little bit worried that the the

06:02 money mover is tail is at the back of

06:04 the [laughter] minute. It would have

06:04 been a little bit closer.

06:07 >> Calparno is

06:07 >> Calparno is third on the outside. The

06:09 American horse hasn't really been

06:10 touched though at the back. That's the

06:12 Goliath and the Christophe Soumillon. He

06:13 always leaves it late.

06:14 >> Calparno is absolutely cantering on the

06:17 bridle.

06:17 >> Yeah, and and our one can't get out.

06:20 They're all coming with a run down the

06:22 middle.

06:22 >> They are indeed.

06:23 You need something to come out of the

06:24 clouds.

06:26 You might have left it too late, the

06:28 French guy.

06:31 Oh, it's going to be A GOOD FINISH.

06:37 A ROAR FROM THE CROWD.

06:39 CHRISTOPHE SOUMILLON'S GOING TO GET

06:40 THERE, IS HE?

06:44 >> [cheering]

06:44 >> OH, YES.

06:44 >> SAVED BY CHRISTOPHE SOUMILLON. He

06:46 breathes a big sigh of relief. That's a

06:48 good one.

06:48 >> It's a good one, but I don't know if

06:50 we'll make it up for us.

06:51 >> Yeah, blimey. That was close.

06:53 >> I'll just show you that So, look, if we

06:54 go into the books,

06:56 we've got

06:57 That was the result there. I'm going to

06:58 wait for the result to go in. What

06:59 happens now is I will enter the result

07:01 button there and I will put the three

07:03 select places in. They will come up and

07:05 it will tell me the tally ready for the

07:06 guys to start paying out in a minute.

07:08 >> I mean, it shows how busy it is here

07:10 that the crowd never know. You'll hear a

07:11 roar when this is announced.

07:17 Maybe not such a roar.

07:19 One One for us, I think.

07:33 >> So, that's the results there that are

07:34 just coming out. The guys on the front,

07:35 they'll put that now on a spike, which

07:37 will tell them the results and it has

07:39 all the ticket numbers for all of our

07:40 three pitches in the track. As you can

07:42 see, we've already got customers here.

07:43 The betting in front of you is also uh

07:45 for the big race of the day, but they

07:47 will now scan the tickets as they come

07:49 up. It will tell me on the computer, but

07:51 there's no need to look at the computer

07:52 cuz there's no rule for it's as it is on

07:54 the slip. They will now they know the

07:56 result, they'll pay out, or someone will

07:57 have another bet.

08:04 Okay, well, we're in the hustle and

08:05 bustle. People are getting their bets on

08:06 for race number three. We've had two

08:07 races. How are you looking after two

08:09 races here on the final day of Ascot?

08:11 Yeah, so

08:11 >> we're just thinking Royal Ascot's only

08:13 just started, and we need another 4 days

08:14 after this.

08:15 Um yeah, look at looking uh so far we've

08:17 had two races. Uh we've had two good

08:20 results. We're actually winning 68,000

08:21 after two races now, which we

08:23 desperately need. We need another naught

08:24 on the end of that.

08:25 >> Yeah, I was going to say it's a long way

08:25 to a million.

08:26 >> It is a long way, but you've got to

08:27 start somewhere as they say, and um but

08:30 just to look at the book now, um you you

08:32 can see here for the next next race.

08:33 This is this is how we get the tally up.

08:36 Um so, obviously the keyboard here um

08:38 all the buttons, it tells there's

08:40 letters, there's numbers, there's

08:41 prices. You can change all It It takes a

08:43 little bit of getting used to, but

08:44 that's the main one, the tally. If I

08:46 press that it tells us today

08:49 that's the stakes at the minute. That's

08:51 the payout, and that's the profit. We've

08:52 also taken 968 slips across three

08:55 pitches. So, we've got four computers

08:58 working here today. Um three pitches. I

09:00 can see obviously the book um for all

09:02 three pitches and all the bets that are

09:04 going in, and we can get an overall

09:05 picture to try and build books around

09:07 it. I mean, it's a bit of a ironic

09:08 statement building books around some of

09:09 the bets

09:10 >> we're taking this week, but that's the

09:11 idea. Okay, and in this next race you've

09:13 got two more or less short price

09:15 favorites at the top at the top of the

09:16 market. Do you try and take them both

09:18 on, or do you try and just take one of

09:19 them on?

09:20 >> I think the way they've been playing

09:21 this week, nobody wants to be with the

09:22 second favorite. So, they've you know,

09:25 at some meetings um that you could I

09:27 mean, last year we seemed to lay the

09:28 front three in every race, and you're

09:30 just looking for an outsider, and and we

09:32 Royal Ascot wasn't kind to us then, but

09:34 uh this race here, obviously we've got

09:36 Jolly Sailors 13 to 8 Santorini. I would

09:38 imagine the way they've been playing, uh

09:40 they would come for Jolie Star again.

09:42 I did have word in the week that that a

09:43 lot of people fancy this. Obviously,

09:45 it's the Australian horse,

09:47 and they think a lot of it. We'll soon

09:48 see. We've already got a 4 and 1/2

09:49 thousand pound loser here, which is a 28

09:51 to one shot. So, yeah, we've we've got

09:53 some bets to go. We've we've uh

09:56 Only 18 runners here. Everyone's queuing

09:58 up.

09:58 >> And one thing I've just noticed, the

09:59 prices change all the time without you

10:00 moving your fingers. Is that all done

10:02 automated? How do you How does it work?

10:03 So, some meetings like you

10:05 >> But, you can we enter all the prices as

10:06 we start, but there's a button you can

10:07 put it on an auto tracker. Okay. And you

10:09 can choose a margin to bet to, and

10:11 obviously it it mirrors the Betfair

10:12 Exchange or Matchbook Exchange, Betdaq.

10:15 Um it's just for a guide. When sometimes

10:16 you could be working on your own track,

10:18 you'll stick it on because then you

10:20 could be dealing with customers, and you

10:22 could get caught napping, not being able

10:23 to change the prices, paying someone

10:24 out, suddenly you've been bowled over.

10:26 >> Okay.

10:27 >> But, the idea is

10:28 uh obviously to just keep it ticking

10:29 over. That's why sometimes you have

10:31 people moaning, "We changed the prices."

10:33 We haven't. We've got it on auto set,

10:34 but then we would just turn it off,

10:36 adjust the prices to what we want. But,

10:37 it's just for ease because in these 31

10:39 handicaps, sometimes the each the big

10:41 price at the bottom, you quite easily

10:43 miss number 34 that's gone at silly

10:45 price, and you're you're on the board at

10:46 at the wrong price.

10:47 >> Okay.

10:48 >> All right. Well, we'll pop back and see

10:49 how things play out in race number

10:50 three.

11:01 >> Well, the runners and riders are loading

11:02 for the QEII, race number three. You

11:04 said

11:04 >> Quite a quiet betting heat this time.

11:06 >> very very quiet. I thought we'd we'd be

11:08 taking lumps out of Jolie Star, all the

11:10 rumors that they wanted to back it.

11:12 We've currently got it as a 240 pound

11:14 loser. I mean, this is like a book you'd

11:16 see at Cheltenham or Lingfield. This is

11:17 not a Royal Ascot race. Our biggest

11:19 loser is 3 and 1/2 grand. Our biggest

11:21 winner is probably about 6 and 1/2 7

11:22 thousand pound we've taken.

11:25 About 8 thousand on the race. It's just

11:26 very very quiet. Maybe they're licking

11:28 their wounds after the first two races.

11:29 But, I mean, they've they've had it good

11:31 all week.

11:32 >> Yeah, stop being selfish. What would you

11:33 have taken on the first two races

11:34 roughly?

11:35 >> Uh I can tell you we took 78,000.

11:38 >> Okay, so this is quiet.

11:39 >> Yeah.

11:40 Uh so, yeah, a very, very quiet race,

11:42 which as I said is strange considering

11:44 there's a two to one. There was a there

11:45 was an early move for Santa Rita Ryan

11:47 Moore back horse, but it's now eased

11:50 back out to 11 to four, but there's no

11:52 money. It's just moving um but for no

11:54 money here. So, very, very strange. But

11:56 look at them already in their positions

11:58 to get ready for the race. They've got

12:00 their seats early.

12:01 >> Um

12:02 I don't know what they're going to be

12:03 collecting cuz they haven't had a bet.

12:05 >> All right, let's see how we play out.

12:06 >> I imagine this is a stress-free watch

12:08 when it's a quiet book.

12:09 >> It is. It's quite disappointing to be

12:10 honest. You could have gone for a toilet

12:11 break. Um

12:12 I thought Santa Rita was a big runner.

12:14 So, to actually have a Ryan Moore horse

12:16 that we could cheer on, um they normally

12:18 they normally get beat, but no, these

12:20 are races we just have to wait 10 yards

12:22 from the line. There's a bunch of amount

12:23 of horses. You can't really see what's

12:24 going on.

12:25 >> Yeah.

12:25 >> Jollie star's there.

12:27 Who's this far side? It's going to be a

12:29 good finish.

12:33 It's the two favorites. Santa Rita is

12:34 head to head with the other favorite.

12:36 Who won Jollie star?

12:40 Oh.

12:41 >> That looks the far side.

12:42 >> Yeah, who was far side? It might have

12:43 been Lake Forest.

12:46 >> No, it's a Shadwell horse, is it?

12:47 >> This one?

12:48 >> Could be Could be

12:50 Could be Almarac. Could be Lake Forest.

12:52 >> in there.

12:52 >> It's blue.

12:54 It's blue, yeah.

12:57 I wanted I wanted near side. I wanted

12:59 Jollie star. I don't think we got up.

13:01 It's close, though. It's close. Cameras

13:03 have gone to Almarac, which would

13:04 currently be a

13:07 3,780 pound winner. Definitely far side.

13:10 Definitely far side.

13:11 >> That's Almarac.

13:12 >> Number one Almarac.

13:14 It's a winner. Another winner.

13:17 That's a great race. Another

13:18 >> Mark on William Haggas.

13:20 It's coming in late. The The The

13:21 original favorite was just about in

13:23 front about a furlong out. Just kept

13:26 finding more, and then just coming late

13:28 on was the Ryan Moore thing down the

13:30 middle, but far side

13:32 just looking to the keeper straight

13:33 line. You never know in these races.

13:34 Stewards after yesterday's debacle in

13:36 the last

13:36 >> Do you have to wait a certain amount of

13:37 time before you start paying out?

13:38 >> Well, there's only so long we can wait.

13:40 Yesterday, 20 minutes after the last

13:41 race, everyone's packing down and then

13:43 the bing bong went. That was another

13:44 saga, but I would say if there's any

13:47 doubt, here's the result.

13:54 >> [cheering]

13:55 >> Few excited customers here. Um yeah, I

13:57 just think if there's ever any doubt, we

13:59 just wish they'd just press the ding

14:00 dong button

14:01 because if there's any doubt, why why

14:04 cause us problems? It's It's It's a

14:05 nightmare we have to deal with. Again

14:07 yesterday, the problem we said that if

14:08 we do pay out customers

14:10 who backed the runner up and then the

14:13 original winner had to be thrown out,

14:14 how could those customers come back to

14:16 get their deficit from second because

14:18 we've got their slips? They paid out. We

14:19 can't tell a customer from one. And

14:20 that's the issues we then have, but

14:23 look, little little things like that

14:24 just need to be tidied up within the

14:25 betting industry.

14:27 >> All right. Three races down, three for

14:29 the bookies.

14:30 >> All right. StarSports currently 11-2 on

14:32 the jolly.

14:34 >> All right. Well, it's the big race today

14:35 and there's a big liability going on.

14:37 Talk to me. How we looking on this race?

14:39 >> Yes, so Sabre Strike, Tom Marquand,

14:40 William Haggas. He's already had a

14:42 winner today.

14:43 Um they're in good form. We've laid

14:44 35,000 at 7-4, 50,000 at 6-4, 8,000 at

14:49 13-8. Uh and the others are just all

14:51 brands and little pieces. So, currently

14:53 loses us 153,000 in the book. Um

14:56 everything else is in the 90s. There's a

14:58 couple in the hundreds, but we just want

15:00 Sabre Strike beat. We're not We can't

15:01 get anything else in the book at this

15:02 stage. There's a few minutes they're

15:03 circling at the post. Um we don't want

15:05 to see red. That's That's a bit helpful

15:07 here. All the rest are virtually blues

15:08 and purples. So, we we don't want to see

15:10 a a beam of red going past in front. At

15:12 this stage,

15:13 we are 72,000 in front. If this wins,

15:17 we'll be that behind.

15:18 >> All right. Well, we're cheering on for

15:19 the punters. Come on, Sabre Strike. Get

15:22 one home for the good guys.

15:27 All right, off and running. You can tell

15:28 it's a big liability cuz Khan's brought

15:30 himself to the stairs for a bit of a

15:31 better look here.

15:31 >> I think we're going to go back a bit

15:32 further cuz we can't even see it.

15:34 >> All right.

15:34 All right, off we go.

15:38 >> I don't know what makes me feel

15:39 differently. Just want to see

15:41 how quickly we're going to do it or not,

15:42 but it's in the middle at the minute.

15:44 Obviously, they've gone as two packs.

15:46 Sabre Strike is in the middle middle

15:48 middle section.

15:49 >> They go well in face.

15:50 >> Yeah, this is um

15:52 We're just looking on the outside.

15:53 That's one of the Is that one of the

15:56 Here she comes, man. Racing. He's down

15:57 the middle of the track. It's still two

15:59 furlongs to go.

16:01 It's they're wide across the track here.

16:02 >> Anyone's race.

16:04 >> And far side in the blues going very

16:05 well, whoever that is.

16:07 >> Sabre Strike's beat.

16:10 Bookie's in clover. That's the secret

16:12 adversary.

16:13 It's shame it happened at a big. Far

16:15 side 13. [screaming]

16:19 Sabre Strike, a big blow out here at

16:21 Royal Ascot.

16:23 A good result for you, fellas.

16:25 >> Very good result.

16:26 >> result.

16:26 >> We needed one. We finally got one. I

16:28 told you. Royal Ascot's just starting

16:29 and we're on the way back. We are so

16:31 back.

16:32 >> So, the placings are confirmed. How are

16:33 we looking? What's What's the damage for

16:35 the punters?

16:36 >> Uh well, secret adversary has won the

16:38 race on the on the race, I believe. A

16:40 very very good result for us. Not even

16:42 in the frame. Um just looking at the

16:43 places. Obviously, we laid each way for

16:45 some of the other horses. That factors

16:46 in. We've managed to cop 96,000 on the

16:49 race.

16:50 As I said, it's it's been a long week.

16:52 We've needed a few of these results.

16:53 You've got to start somewhere. And look,

16:55 this is the ups and downs of the game.

16:56 It's It's a good result for us. We're a

16:58 long way back, but you know, punters

16:59 have had it good all week. Um we're

17:01 we're looking for a few more results,

17:03 really. I I know there's not many short

17:04 ones left to run. There are four to one

17:05 the field here. Um Ben Hurren and Spy

17:07 Chief. So, fingers crossed we can we can

17:10 get a result in the next few as well.

17:11 >> So, after four races you're about 160 in

17:13 the green.

17:14 >> 169 to be precise in the green. Um

17:17 between the team they've done 1,640 bets

17:19 so far. It's absolutely boiling. You can

17:21 pick a winner, can't you, in the ring.

17:22 But it's a great atmosphere here today.

17:24 I mean, not just for once we're actually

17:26 getting a few results. But I mean, that

17:27 could that can soon change as well. But

17:29 just being around the hustle and bustle

17:30 of it, the £2, the fivers, it doesn't

17:32 matter what size bet.

17:33 Everyone's excited, aren't they, when

17:34 they get a winner?

17:35 >> Absolutely. All right. Well, the bookies

17:37 are happy, the punters are on the floor.

17:39 >> Five each way on nine. Five each way 15.

17:42 >> Five each way 15.

17:45 Two tickets, £20 in total, and we'll

17:47 give you a sweet and a card, mate. Best

17:49 of luck. Good luck, buddy.

17:52 What can I do you, buddy?

17:55 40 on

17:56 >> Hammer and a hammer.

17:57 >> Two pound Hammer and a hammer is

17:59 What number, buddy?

18:01 >> Uh 12.

18:02 >> £40 number 12, please.

18:06 All right, there you go, buddy. That's a

18:06 sweet and a card if you want to have a

18:07 bet.

18:08 >> Good, mate.

18:08 >> Thanks, buddy. Good luck, mate. Thank

18:09 you very much. Come on, buddy. What can

18:11 I do for you?

18:12 >> 11 each way. Which one's 11? Yeah, 11 is

18:14 right.

18:15 >> £5 on 11 each way, please. Five each way

18:17 11. Anything else, buds?

18:21 Hang on, you need a tenner back. That's

18:23 your five each way there.

18:25 And your tenner back.

18:26 >> 24 on the

18:29 So, five each way.

18:30 >> Five each way number 24?

18:31 >> Yes.

18:31 >> Five each way 24, please.

18:35 All right, buddy.

18:38 Yeah, you go for it. And there's a

18:39 little little card if you want to have a

18:41 bet online, mate. Thank you very much.

18:42 What can I do you?

18:42 >> You can see now on the board. We always

18:44 put them in twice.

18:45 >> Okay, yeah, sure.

18:46 >> So, you can shout here. We're five to

18:47 one the field because we are. There's

18:49 three horses at five to one. Take your

18:51 pick. Each of three five to one. Please

18:53 shout.

18:53 >> Come on, five to one the field. What do

18:55 you have? Back in the jolly? What can I

18:56 do for you?

18:57 >> Can I have

18:57 five each way on number three?

18:59 >> Five each way three. Of course you can,

19:00 sir.

19:02 Five each way the three. There's your

19:03 slip. And I'll give you a mint in case

19:04 you pull.

19:06 Good luck.

19:08 Okay. All right, we'll give you an

19:09 update. They've I took 50 grand each way

19:12 on number one Spy Chief. So, we need to

19:14 get a bit of money for the four and six

19:15 to even the book out. Spy Chief, 50

19:17 grand each way.

19:18 >> Five on 28.

19:19 >> Five each way 28, please.

19:23 Five each way 28 and a card if you want

19:25 to bet, buddy. Thank you very much. Good

19:26 luck. What can I do, buddy?

19:28 >> Yeah, I'll take 20 on 28.

19:29 >> Five each way 28, please.

19:32 All right, we're taking some bets here.

19:33 We got some cash. Taking some bets. 50

19:35 grand each way on number one.

19:36 Thankfully, I didn't take it out to

19:37 count it out. But, it's busy. It's busy.

19:39 All right. Well, as you heard earlier,

19:41 50 grand each way on a certain horse,

19:43 Carl.

19:44 I'm just going to ask you quickly, you

19:46 stand to lose 278 grand if this one

19:48 wins. At what point do you stop taking

19:49 money on it and shorten it?

19:51 We don't really. We just keep going.

19:53 It'd be lovely to lay out the same sort

19:54 of bets for four and six each way.

19:56 Imagine having all three of them in the

19:57 book. Oh, be dream. Ben would be

19:59 delighted, but but at the minute it

20:01 stands to lose us 278,000. If it's

20:03 placed, we lose 118,000. So, yeah,

20:06 anywhere out the frame. There's four

20:07 places. Is there four?

20:10 I don't know. Is it We just need it

20:11 anywhere near the back will do.

20:12 >> And it looks like if it doesn't win,

20:13 it's about a 50 grand winner for

20:14 everything else.

20:15 >> It is, yeah.

20:17 But, this game's never over. Look,

20:17 there's still probably 5 minutes by the

20:19 time they've loaded all 27 runners into

20:21 here.

20:22 And the money's still coming in. All

20:23 right, I'll let I'll let you get back to

20:24 it, buddy.

20:24 >> Quickest part.

20:25 >> Oh, yeah. The danger for you guys is on

20:27 the stand side.

20:28 >> Yeah, all blue cuz he's open and easy to

20:30 spot. And he's come up the same place as

20:31 the American horse won the last race

20:33 yesterday. So, it's very, very worrying

20:34 early. I've just been told this was

20:35 runner-up to the last winner at

20:37 Salisbury. He's in an absolute box

20:39 office position right now. If it If it

20:41 places, it's basically a bet to nothing

20:42 break level. But, we need it beat.

20:45 I'd rather have him gone down the middle

20:46 with 20 other horses, but he's on his

20:48 own with one other horse. Wait, he's not

20:49 on his own. He's one other horse that we

20:50 can see now.

20:52 It's a ballsy ride. It is a ballsy ride,

20:54 but

20:55 what we got? 27 runners here.

20:57 >> He's looking good now.

20:59 >> I mean, it's been great all week. The

21:00 stand side has been.

21:01 >> You're beat. You're beat. You're beat.

21:04 >> Wow.

21:06 Wow, THAT'S THAT IS THAT'S A BIG ONE.

21:08 >> [screaming]

21:08 >> WOW, THAT'S A BIG

21:11 HE'S NEARLY PULLED IT OFF.

21:13 DOUBLE RUSH IS GOING TO DO IT.

21:15 DOUBLE RUSH, SHANE FOLEY, Andrew

21:17 Balding.

21:19 Wins again. Double Very strange that,

21:22 wasn't it? Very strange. They one of the

21:23 money game for

21:25 beat two home, six furlong sprint and

21:27 they they really struggled. I don't

21:28 know.

21:30 Track this side's not what it was

21:31 yesterday. Very, very interesting for

21:33 for the last couple races to go. They

21:34 really should start employing me cuz as

21:36 soon as I've turned up you're in clover.

21:37 You're at all of them. You're at Windsor

21:38 Monday. We'll see you there. All right.

21:40 Hey, so Carl, how did how did you end up

21:42 winning on that race?

21:43 >> Uh we managed to cut We've laid a few

21:45 elsewhere, so I've just got to move the

21:46 tally down. We managed to win 101,585

21:50 on the end, but yeah, it's um in the in

21:53 the meantime I've also just trying to

21:54 put the result and we've laid a monster

21:55 bet in the last Illinois 100,000 at 7:4,

21:58 so So it's never over, is it?

22:00 >> All right. All right, well there's still

22:01 a lot of action to go. How were you up

22:03 overall today?

22:04 >> Uh

22:06 I day 274.

22:08 >> 274, all right. You're a quarter of the

22:09 way back. All right, buddy. We'll come

22:11 back and report in the next. It is the

22:13 penultimate race. You said it's quite

22:14 quiet so far, Carl.

22:15 >> Yeah, it is. Like we find after the big

22:17 race wherever we are. Um it's not as

22:19 much at Cheltenham, I think because

22:20 there's so many championship races and

22:22 and good races, sometimes the handicaps

22:24 they just filter off. Some people get

22:26 out to beat the rush, trains or

22:28 whatever, but some people just go ready

22:29 to go around the bandstand cuz you have

22:30 the sing song after the last. It's still

22:33 two more like this and one more after

22:34 this, but yeah, this one's always a bit

22:36 of a lull.

22:37 Um

22:38 I think it's generally the makeup of the

22:40 race half the time. If you had a

22:42 a five runner race with an even money

22:43 shot in here, probably be a bit

22:44 livelier, but we've got a how many

22:46 runners? 16 runners and two to one shot

22:49 Lost Boys in here. Um very, very quiet.

22:51 We've got two losers, the Lost Boys for

22:53 200 quid

22:54 and Prince Ling. We laid laid a little

22:56 bit each way here,

22:58 um which is 1,000 pound at 9:1, so

23:01 that's the real loser in the book, but

23:03 yeah, it's all leading up to the last

23:05 race where Illinois

23:06 is your big one. Okay. All right, let's

23:09 get this one out of the way and then

23:10 we'll look on to Illinois.

23:12 Well, there's a bit of a roar.

23:14 Great finish.

23:23 Favorite goes in.

23:25 Wathnan Star goes in and it wasn't

23:26 really a bad result.

23:29 Okay, so two one five goes in. You think

23:31 the bookies wouldn't be very happy, but

23:33 how did he finish up?

23:34 >> I'm actually quite happy cuz we only

23:36 lost 700 pound on the race. Just as I

23:38 said, after the big race we often get a

23:39 bit of a lull. Seems to be very quiet.

23:41 Um the Wathnan racing team had multiple

23:43 runners in there. I thought actually the

23:44 jolly was coming down the outside, but

23:46 he had sneaked up through the middle. Um

23:48 I think he just said he's completed a

23:49 four-timer as well, so great great

23:52 result for them. I'm good to see them on

23:53 the winner's podium, but yeah, good

23:55 result for us because that could have

23:56 been

23:57 one of those where they come in and and

23:58 and big bets to the off, but yeah, we

24:00 dodged that one I'd say, but it's one of

24:02 those the big one to go Illinois.

24:03 >> And how much did you take on Illinois?

24:04 >> Oh, we've taken 100,000 at 7:4 here.

24:07 It's already 11:08 now when we come to

24:08 the race, so money's down.

24:10 >> All right, maybe back for more.

24:11 >> Okay. All right, let's see what happens

24:13 in the last.

24:14 >> All right, well, we are off and running

24:15 in the last. Do many people see this as

24:17 a get out of jail stakes?

24:18 >> Well, the business has been absolutely

24:19 monumental. We've laid 100,000 at 7:4

24:22 Illinois. Laid 100,000 each way at 4:1

24:24 La Destrier and now 20,000 each way at

24:26 5:1 A Piece of Heaven. We want the front

24:28 end beat. So, uh yeah, this is a a

24:31 lively last race.

24:33 The worst result is obviously La

24:34 Destrier, then Illinois. The rest will

24:36 be a nice get out in the last, but

24:39 kind of look what numbers and colors

24:40 we're looking for. A Piece of Heaven's

24:42 white. Illinois's in the the usual

24:44 purple. La Destrier's blue and yellow,

24:46 so

24:47 yeah, we're not looking at the yellow

24:48 and blue in the last, which is down the

24:49 middle at the minute.

24:50 >> All right, let's see what happens. It's

24:52 all to play for.

24:53 All right, well, we're turning for home

24:55 in the last. Illinois looks poised,

24:57 doesn't he?

24:57 >> Illinois looks very well positioned.

24:59 He's uh French Master's actually going

25:01 okay to be fair. Uh he's not come off

25:03 the bridle, but he's a long way back.

25:05 They've given easy lead to Ryan Moore

25:06 here.

25:07 Uh French Master's probably our only

25:09 hope down the wide outside. He's got

25:10 about six lengths to make up. Why they

25:12 give Ryan so much ground? But we've got

25:15 very, very slim chances. They've given

25:17 him first run. They've given him three

25:19 lengths. They are idling later on.

25:21 French Master's gaining very close.

25:23 French Master's coming down the outside

25:24 here.

25:25 IT'S GOING TO BE A SLOG, but he has got

25:26 the Prince Illinois.

25:28 SLOW MOTION FINISH.

25:30 >> [cheering]

25:31 [screaming]

25:31 >> WHAT THAT HORSE IS GOING TO GET UP. HE'S

25:33 GETTING THERE.

25:37 OH, IT'S CLOSE.

25:39 OH, IT'S CLOSE.

25:41 ILLINOIS IS UP.

25:43 French Master's traded a lot of zone.

25:45 Ryan Moore as usual has managed to get

25:47 him back up very, very

25:49 Great ride from obviously Ryan Moore.

25:50 Very, very disappointed in the

25:52 runner-up.

25:52 >> All right, let's go see how it looks in

25:54 the book.

25:54 >> All right, well originally this was

25:55 going to be a big, big loser. You had

25:56 some big bets come in. Did that help you

25:58 out here?

25:59 >> Massively. The fact that the Destrier

26:00 was out the frame. Obviously as I said

26:02 100,000 each way at the price which is 5

26:04 to 1. Uh it takes out a ridiculous

26:07 amount of money. I mean, the swing there

26:09 we've managed to win 73,000 on the race.

26:12 But the the the swing swing Sorry. It's

26:15 a It's a very good result in the end.

26:16 73,000 we've won on the race. Obviously

26:18 people looking at our books say it's a

26:20 40,000 loser, but that's the thing. You

26:22 have to then add into the place money

26:23 which is a 200,000 pound swing. We had

26:25 it originally as a 47,000 pound loser

26:28 Illinois.

26:29 Uh but obviously the place money gets

26:30 added in. So, yeah, it's Look, it's a

26:32 lot to understand and a lot to look at

26:34 and these sort of figures blow your mind

26:36 at times.

26:37 The swing there

26:38 was massive, massive.

26:40 Look, we can't complain. We've won

26:41 73,000 on the race, but

26:44 it was probably another

26:46 200 and something thousand.

26:47 >> So, what have you finished up overall

26:49 today?

26:50 >> Uh on the week on the day I believe

26:52 we're around 300,000 up or more. So,

26:54 yeah, it's it's been a It's been a great

26:56 day in the ring. Short heads have been

26:58 the story of our week this week. It's

27:00 Look, the crowds are still here. They're

27:01 buzzing. They're now off to the

27:02 bandstand to to have a sing-along. We're

27:04 still paying out. The queue will be very

27:06 long behind us, as you can see.

27:09 Favorite wins the last. They call it the

27:10 get out of jail safe, don't they? But,

27:12 we go again. It's been a great week.

27:14 It's very warm. Well, thanks so much for

27:15 letting us see behind the scenes of

27:17 being a bookmaker with StarSports on the

27:19 final day of Royal Ascot. You've been a

27:20 pleasure. Thank you so much, and thanks

27:22 for watching.
