Jim Rohn - The Challenge to Succeed Seminar - Anaheim, California 1981
BrandallBuilds · Watch on YouTube · Generated with SnapSummary · 2026-05-25

00:01 here's the big challenge of life you can

00:03 have more than you've got because you

00:06 can become more than you

00:09 are that's the challenge and of course

00:12 the other side of the coin reads unless

00:14 you change how you are you'll always

00:16 have what you

00:18 got I have found in my experience that

00:21 income does not far exceed personal

00:24 development now sometimes income takes a

00:27 lucky jump but sure enough unless you

00:29 grow out where it is it'll usually come

00:31 back where you are life has strange

00:34 ways if somebody hands you a million

00:36 dollars best you become a millionaire

00:38 quickly so you get to keep the

00:41 money otherwise sure enough it'll

00:45 disappear somebody once said if you took

00:48 all the money in the world divided it up

00:51 equally among everybody it would soon

00:53 all be back in the same

00:56 Pockets incredible success is something

00:59 you trct not something you pursue

01:02 success is looking for a good place to

01:05 stay so instead of going after it you

01:07 work on yourself personal

01:10 development see the major question to

01:12 ask on the job is not what are you

01:14 getting the major question to ask on the

01:17 job is what are you

01:20 becoming see the big question is not

01:23 what am I getting paid here the big

01:25 question is what am I becoming here

01:30 because true happiness is not contained

01:32 in what you get happiness is contained

01:35 in what you

01:37 become so that's our major subject for

01:39 tonight personal development of all the

01:42 assignments Mr scha gave me at age 25

01:44 this was probably the most difficult in

01:46 fact I'm still working on this one I

01:47 think it's an unending challenge to see

01:49 what you can become the next subject is

01:51 called basic

01:55 laws and it's good to study the basics

02:00 and I call these Basics primarily

02:01 because they come from the Bible now I'm

02:04 not a theologian or a minister and

02:06 that'll be apparent but Mr schof taught

02:09 me that the Bible was a good textbook

02:12 for ideas and stories and success

02:14 equations how to live the better life I

02:16 found out that was

02:17 true he also taught me that the Bible is

02:20 as practical as it is spiritual and I

02:22 found out that's

02:23 true if you look at your bank account

02:26 and your income and you're not happy

02:28 there's several places in the Bible to

02:29 check to see what the heck's wrong so

02:32 you can make the changes and we're going

02:34 to cover some of those tonight called

02:36 Basics okay the next subject is my

02:39 favorite setting

02:43 goals Mr scha taught me how to set goals

02:46 what a favor that

02:48 was one morning at breakfast shortly

02:50 after I met

02:51 him he said Jim let me see your current

02:54 list of goals and let's go over them and

02:55 talk about them he said maybe that's the

02:57 best way I can help you get a better

02:58 Direction started

03:00 and I

03:02 said I don't have a

03:04 list he said well is it out in the car

03:07 or home somewhere I said um no

03:11 sir I don't have a list

03:15 anywhere he said well young man that's

03:17 where we got to start he said I can tell

03:20 you right now if you don't have a list

03:21 of your goals with you he said I can

03:23 guess your bank balance within a few

03:27 hundred which he did

03:30 and that got my attention I said you

03:33 mean my bank balance would change if I

03:34 had a list of goals he said

03:39 drastically that day I became a willing

03:41 student how to set goals and sure enough

03:44 learning how to set goals changed my

03:45 life and I often wondered why no one had

03:47 ever taught me how to set goals up until

03:49 age

03:51 25 I went to high school but if they

03:54 offered it I missed it I went to college

03:57 for a year never heard it

04:01 I work for

04:03 Sears really and to my knowledge Sears

04:07 never taught it right how to set goals

04:10 so here I am age 25 married my family

04:12 starting I've been to college I'm

04:14 working and I still don't know how to

04:16 set goals but fortunately when I was 25

04:19 I met the man who taught me how and it

04:21 revolutionized my whole life

04:23 economically socially personally it's

04:25 incredible so I want to share with you

04:27 tonight what Mr SCH shared with me how

04:28 to set goals it can be a

04:31 lifechanger okay the next subject is the

04:34 negative part of the

04:36 seminar life is part negative so we got

04:38 to talk about the negative and this

04:40 subject is called

04:43 diseases of

04:48 attitude diseases of

04:51 attitude there's a lot of things that

04:53 can wreck your chances to do well we

04:55 live in a rather dangerous world so you

04:57 got to be not only wise you got to be

04:59 care

05:01 careful now attitude diseases are just

05:03 as bad as physical diseases right high

05:05 blood pressure heart trouble I mean a

05:07 lot of things lace your chances to do

05:08 well so you've got to be careful and

05:11 attitude diseases are deadly I mean

05:13 they'll destroy all the good things you

05:15 start okay so we'll go through those

05:17 attitude diseases how to spot them how

05:19 to look for them what they are and and

05:21 the Cure and I'm a pro on these because

05:23 I've had them all so I can give you

05:25 excellent advice on these now the last

05:27 subject we're going to consider tonight

05:29 is called

05:30 the day that turns your life

05:33 around the day that turns your life

05:37 around and under this subject we're

05:39 going to talk about the emotions that

05:40 can change your life human beings are

05:42 emotional

05:43 creatures and emotions are powerful for

05:46 life

05:47 change now of course emotions are so

05:49 powerful they can go either way on you

05:52 emotions can either build or

05:54 destroy so you really have to employ

05:56 emotions properly we call civilization

05:59 the intelligent management of human

06:02 emotions if you can intelligently apply

06:04 your emotions in the right direction no

06:06 telling what can happen could turn your

06:07 life around one day would be sufficient

06:10 so we'll talk about those okay now

06:12 that's a lot to cover in one

06:15 evening but uh we'll keep at it here and

06:18 see if we can't get it all

06:21 done I'd like to have you now jot down

06:23 the theme of the

06:24 seminar every seminar should have a

06:26 theme I guess we've got one it's on some

06:29 of our literature if you happen to

06:30 notice it but if you didn't for your

06:32 notes here it is the theme of the

06:34 seminar goes like this the major

06:39 key

06:41 to your better

06:45 [Music]

06:47 future is

06:51 you that's the theme of our seminar

06:53 tonight the major key to your better

06:55 future is you and I'd like to have you

06:56 underline two words just to give it some

06:58 added punch underline the word major and

07:00 the word

07:02 you so that it reads the major key to

07:06 your better future is

07:09 you now my first suggestion is transfer

07:13 this to a card or something where you

07:15 can put it up where you can see it every

07:17 day preferably put it up where you can

07:19 see it at the beginning of the day

07:21 before you go off to put the day

07:22 together this is a good phrase just to

07:24 glance out to keep in mind as you're

07:25 putting the day together it's called The

07:28 Silent seminar

07:30 if you'll just let this talk to you

07:31 during the day I found it to be

07:33 tremendously helpful the major key to

07:35 your better future is

07:39 you for a big share of my life now I

07:41 didn't have uh this one quite figured

07:44 out among a lot of things I didn't have

07:45 quite figured

07:46 out many things used to puzzle me back

07:49 in those early days I used to wonder why

07:51 two people could work for the same

07:53 company one make twice as much

07:56 money now see that used to puzzle me and

07:59 maybe were the same age graduated from

08:01 the same school live in the same

08:03 Community work for the same company with

08:05 the same products and the same Services

08:07 they've got the same traffic the same

08:10 problems and one makes a th000 a month

08:12 the other one makes 2,000 a

08:15 month now that was my puzzling question

08:18 why would this long list be the same and

08:19 the money twice as

08:21 much I asked what's the difference

08:23 between a th000 a month and 2,000 a

08:25 month and I don't mean a th a month

08:28 right I could figure that out

08:30 but what what makes the difference why

08:31 would one person do twice as well three

08:33 times as well speaking economically now

08:37 I know there's more than one way to do

08:38 well I understand that but in this

08:40 little narrow area called compensation

08:43 what's the

08:45 difference well back then with my faulty

08:48 thinking I'm trying to reason it

08:50 out I thought well maybe time makes some

08:52 of the difference right some people do

08:53 better because they have more

08:56 time I used to say Harold ought to be

08:59 able ble to do well he's got a lot of

09:01 time if I had all of Harold's time I

09:04 could do

09:05 well now that's got to be dumb right

09:09 number one you can't get somebody else's

09:12 time a guy says to me one time he says

09:15 you know if I had some extra time I

09:16 could make some extra money I said then

09:18 forget it there isn't any extra

09:21 time hey when the clock strikes 12

09:23 midnight that about wraps it up right I

09:25 mean you can look around the gongs there

09:26 for a little more but it's over

09:29 you say to the guy what are you doing he

09:30 say I'm looking for extra time see

09:32 they'll come and take you away right

09:34 there isn't any more

09:38 time now if you can't get more time

09:41 which you can't what could you get more

09:43 of that would make a difference in

09:45 economic results and here's the key word

09:48 make it a part of your notes we're going

09:49 to consider it tonight the word is

09:54 value and I have a little phrase for

09:56 your notes value makes the difference in

09:59 in

10:01 results value makes the

10:05 difference you can't get more time but

10:07 you can create more

10:11 value now here's the first lesson of

10:14 Economics everybody should learn it from

10:15 the time they're old enough to

10:16 understand what a dollar means how to

10:18 earn one how to get one how to keep one

10:20 what to do with it first lesson of

10:22 Economics we primarily get paid for

10:26 Value that's lesson one

10:29 bringing value to the marketplace that's

10:31 how you get paid you don't get paid for

10:35 the time I know it takes time to bring

10:37 value to the marketplace but you get

10:39 paid for the value not the

10:43 time now since that's true here's one of

10:45 the key questions of the evening is it

10:48 possible to become twice as

10:51 valuable at the market place and make

10:54 twice as much money in the same time

11:00 could you become three times as

11:03 valuable make three times as much money

11:06 in the same time is that

11:08 possible the answer is yes

11:12 if and it's always if right life is

11:16 known as the big

11:18 if Harry Truman once said life is iffy

11:22 how

11:23 true and here's the big if we're going

11:25 to consider it tonight it's possible to

11:27 do much better at the marketplace if if

11:29 you go to work primarily on

11:34 yourself and that's the theme of our

11:36 seminar tonight learning to work

11:39 primarily on

11:45 yourself people have asked me for the

11:47 last 24 years how do you develop an

11:50 above average income and the answer is

11:52 become an above average

11:57 person develop an above aage aage

11:59 handshake some people want to be

12:01 successful they don't even work on their

12:03 handshake as easy as that would be to

12:05 start on they let it slide they don't

12:08 understand develop and above average

12:10 smile develop and above average

12:13 excitement develop and above aage

12:15 interest in other people develop an

12:17 above average intensity to win see

12:19 that'll change

12:22 everything probably one of the most

12:24 frustrating experiences in life is

12:26 looking for an above aage job with above

12:28 aage pay without becoming an above

12:30 average

12:31 person it's called

12:39 frustration and Mr scha gave me probably

12:42 the greatest clue he gave me when I

12:43 first met him he said Jim if you want to

12:45 be wealthy and happy the rest of your

12:47 life just learn this lesson

12:53 well he said learn to work harder on

12:58 yourself than than you do on your

13:07 job then Mr scha gave me

13:10 probably one of the most important Clues

13:14 among so many things he taught me but

13:15 this was in those early days Mr scha was

13:19 very kind but he was also very

13:22 abrupt and he had these interesting

13:24 questions to ask I'm giving him a little

13:27 rund rundown one day on how things

13:28 hadn't worked out out for me he said Mr

13:30 O I've got the answer for you if you

13:32 will listen

13:34 carefully and listen carefully I did

13:36 that day and for the next 5 years if

13:39 somebody's wealthy and happy you got to

13:44 listen he said Jim I've only known you a

13:46 short time but he said it's already my

13:49 honest opinion that for things to change

13:51 for you you got to

13:55 change that wasn't quite the answer I

13:57 was looking for

13:59 but that's the answer he gave me and I

14:01 pass it along to you on this warm summer

14:04 evening in Anaheim California

14:07 1981 for things to change for

14:11 you you've got to

14:15 change otherwise it isn't going to

14:19 change before I met Mr shelf I used to

14:22 say I sure hope things will

14:26 change right that seemed to be my only

14:29 hope if it isn't going to change I'm in

14:31 serious trouble and then I discovered it

14:33 isn't going to change so I'm in serious

14:37 [Music]

14:42 trouble see I can tell you what the 80s

14:45 are going to be like you have dropped in

14:46 to the right

14:49 place I did a seminar one time for

14:52 Standard Oil Executives in management in

14:56 Honolulu and uh we're having a

14:58 conference one day on this big

14:59 conference table and one of them said to

15:01 me Mr ran you know some fairly important

15:03 people halfway around the world what do

15:04 you think the 80s are going to be like I

15:07 said gentlemen I do know the right

15:09 people I can tell you so they all listen

15:13 very carefully and I said gentlemen

15:15 based on my wide experience I can really

15:18 honestly say to you in my opinion in the

15:21 80s it's going to be about like it's

15:24 always

15:27 been aren't you glad you came that's

15:29 inside I don't pass that around just

15:32 everywhere now of course I said that to

15:34 make a point but I also said it because

15:36 it's accurate it's going to be about

15:38 like it's always been it isn't going to

15:42 change the tide comes in and then

15:45 what it goes out for 6 and a half

15:48 thousand years that we know of recorded

15:50 history and probably long before that so

15:52 it is not going to

15:54 change it gets light and then

15:57 what it turn turns dark 6 and 1 half

16:00 thousand years see it's not likely to

16:03 change and we're not to be startled by

16:07 that and if the sun goes down the guy

16:09 says what's happened what's happened it

16:10 means he hasn't been here long I guess

16:12 right it always goes down about this

16:16 time the guy says well I don't like that

16:18 Arrangement well you got to talk to

16:19 somebody besides me right it gets light

16:22 then it turns

16:23 dark in rotation the next season after

16:26 fall is

16:27 what winter

16:29 pray tell how often does winter follow

16:33 fall every year regularly for the last 6

16:35 and half thousand that we know of see it

16:36 is not going to

16:38 change now some Winters are long and

16:40 some are short and some are hard and

16:42 some are easy but they always come right

16:44 after Falls it isn't going to

16:49 change sometimes you can figure it out

16:52 sometimes there's no way to figure it

16:54 out sometimes it goes well sometimes it

16:56 gets in a knot

16:59 sometimes it sails along sometimes it

17:00 gets in Reverse see that's not going to

17:02 change the last 6,000 years reads like

17:05 this opportunity mixed with difficulty

17:08 that's how it reads it isn't going to

17:11 change the man says well if it isn't

17:13 going to change how will my life ever

17:15 change answer when you

17:22 change and whether I'm talking to high

17:24 school kids or business Executives my

17:26 message is always the same and it goes

17:28 like this

17:29 the only way it getss better for you is

17:32 when you get

17:41 better let me give you the four major

17:43 lessons in life to learn here's four

17:47 majors it's good to study the

17:52 majors in our weekend seminar we teach

17:54 some people don't do well because they

17:55 major and minor things

17:59 you've got to be on the lookout at the

18:01 end of every week end of every month you

18:02 got to check make sure you're not

18:03 spending major time on minor things we

18:05 go through that whole series majors and

18:10 minors now let me give you two phrases

18:13 before we get to the four majors this

18:14 will set it up and you'll see where I'm

18:15 going two key phrases for your notes

18:18 here's the first

18:20 one life and business is like the

18:24 changing

18:26 seasons that's the first phrase life and

18:29 business is like the changing

18:34 seasons one of the best ways to describe

18:37 life it's like the

18:40 seasons Frank Sinatra sings Life is Like

18:42 The

18:44 Seasons now here's the second phrase

18:47 very important you cannot change the

18:50 seasons but you can change

18:55 yourself you can't change the season

18:59 but you can change

19:03 yourself and see that's how life gets

19:05 better for you not by

19:08 chance but by

19:11 [Music]

19:13 change now here's the four major lessons

19:15 in life to

19:17 learn I've got my first book finished

19:19 came out a couple of weeks ago this is

19:21 in it the four major lessons in life to

19:23 learn here they are number one learn how

19:26 to handle the

19:27 winters that's lesson one they come

19:31 right after

19:32 Falls with

19:35 regularity some are long and some are

19:37 short and some are hard and some are

19:39 easy but they keep

19:42 coming you must learn to handle the

19:44 knights they come right after days you

19:46 must learn to handle difficulty it comes

19:48 right after

19:49 opportunity you must learn to handle

19:51 recessions they always follow

19:53 progressions for the last

19:56 6,000 see it isn't going to change the

19:58 lesson you must learn is how to handle

20:01 it and there's all kinds of winters

20:03 right the winter when you can't figure

20:06 it out the winter when it all goes smash

20:09 the winter when it turns belly up the

20:12 winter when it won't work when you've

20:14 run out of money and you've got a broken

20:16 heart see those are winter

20:19 times there's all kinds economic Winters

20:23 social Winters personal Winters when

20:27 your heart is smashed in a thousand

20:29 pieces and the nights are unusually long

20:32 your prayers seem to go no higher than

20:34 your head it's winter

20:37 time Barbara strien

20:40 sings it used to be so natural to talk

20:42 about forever but used to be don't count

20:45 anymore they just lay on the floor till

20:49 we sweep them

20:50 away you don't sing me love

20:53 SS and you don't say you need me and you

20:57 don't bring me

20:59 flowers

21:02 anymore a song of

21:04 winter but see the disappointments Come

21:07 Those are normal that's part of life but

21:10 the question is how do you handle it how

21:13 do you handle the coming Winters and the

21:15 disappointments and the downtimes well

21:18 you can't get rid of January by tearing

21:20 it off the

21:23 calendar but here's what you can do you

21:26 can get stronger you can get wiser and

21:29 you can get

21:32 better the winters won't change but you

21:35 can and that's how life changes for

21:38 you see before I understood when it was

21:40 Winter I used to wish it was summer I

21:43 didn't

21:45 understand when it was hard I used to

21:47 wish it was easy I didn't know and then

21:50 Mr scha gave me a part of his very

21:51 unique philosophy when he said don't

21:54 wish it was easier wish you were better

22:00 see that triggered my whole life

22:03 change don't wish for Less Problems wish

22:07 for more

22:08 skills don't wish for Less challenge

22:12 wish for more

22:14 [Music]

22:15 wisdom that's the

22:18 key so that's lesson one learn how to

22:20 handle the winters here's lesson two

22:24 learn how to take advantage of the

22:27 spring that's the second one spring is

22:30 called

22:32 opportunity and spring follows winter

22:35 what a great place for it if you were

22:36 going to put it somewhere that'd be the

22:37 place to put it right after

22:40 winter and pray tell how often does

22:42 spring follow

22:44 winter every year with regularity

22:47 6,000 you can almost count on

22:51 it see opportunity always comes days

22:55 follow nights isn't that terrific

22:58 opportunity follows difficulty but

23:01 here's what you must learn to do

23:02 underline these two words in that key

23:04 phrase take advantage underline those

23:07 two you must learn to take advantage of

23:10 the

23:11 spring see just because spring rolls

23:13 around there's no sign you're going to

23:14 look good come fall you got to do

23:17 something with

23:20 it in fact you have to get good at one

23:23 of two things in life planting in the

23:25 spring or begging in the

23:27 fall or or get somebody to do it for you

23:29 see those are about the only

23:32 Alternatives now here's what else you

23:34 must do take advantage of the Springs

23:36 quickly because there's only a few just

23:38 a handful of Springs have been handed to

23:40 each of us they don't come forever life

23:43 is fairly brief so you got to read every

23:45 book you can get your hands on on what

23:46 to do with your Springs while they're

23:48 here and take advantage they soon run

23:52 out the Beatles wrote life is so short

23:59 and for John lenen it was extra short

24:03 but life is brief Elton John sings She

24:06 lived her life like a Candle in the

24:09 Wind it's brief so whatever you're going

24:12 to do with your life you got to get at

24:14 it don't just let the Springs pass pass

24:19 pass here's the third major lesson in

24:21 life to

24:22 learn learn how to protect your crops

24:25 all summer

24:29 you got to take care of what you

24:32 start sure enough as soon as you've

24:35 planted your garden in the spring the

24:37 busy bugs and the noxious weeds are out

24:39 to take

24:41 it and here's the next bit of Truth they

24:44 will take

24:46 it unless you prevent it and that's the

24:52 third major skill to learn you've got to

24:53 learn to prevent the Intruder from

24:55 taking all the good you start

24:59 it's one of the

25:02 challenges here's two key phrases under

25:04 number three first one all good will be

25:09 attacked on this planet maybe not the

25:11 next one we get to but on this one all

25:14 good will be

25:15 attacked every Garden will be invaded

25:19 not to think so is

25:23 naive and here's the second phrase all

25:26 values must be defended

25:31 political values social values Community

25:33 Values Family Values marriage values

25:36 friendship values business values every

25:40 Garden must be tended all

25:43 summer third major

25:48 lesson now here's number four fourth

25:51 major lesson in life to

25:53 learn learn how to reap in the fall

25:57 without complaint

26:00 learn to reap come Harvest

26:02 time without

26:06 complaint take full responsibility for

26:09 what happens to

26:11 you it's one of the highest forms of

26:13 human maturity accepting full

26:17 responsibility it's the day you know

26:19 you've passed from childhood to

26:21 adulthood the day you accept full

26:26 responsibility and another note learn to

26:29 reap in the fall without

26:30 apology without apology if you do well

26:35 and without complaint if you

26:37 don't that's

26:42 maturity I used to have that long list

26:44 of reasons why I wasn't doing

26:47 well to explain you got to explain right

26:51 otherwise you're going to look bad I

26:54 used to have this funny list called

26:56 reasons for not looking good

27:03 I used to blame the

27:05 government I mean you can believe that

27:07 or not it was at the top of my list I

27:08 had a lecture Second To None the

27:10 government that was on my list I used to

27:13 blame taxes look what you got left after

27:15 they take

27:17 everything and they expect you to do

27:20 well that was on M list

27:23 there prices that one's easy right you

27:25 walk into the supermarket with $20 come

27:27 out with little half

27:29 bag so I had that on my list I used to

27:33 blame the

27:34 weather I blame the traffic I used to

27:38 blame my

27:39 car I blame the

27:42 manufacturers I used to blame the

27:44 company I blamed company

27:47 policy I used to blame the training

27:53 program I blame my negative relatives

27:55 they were always putting me down

27:58 I blame my cynical neighbors they're

28:00 just selfish looking out for themselves

28:02 won't loan you money they were on my

28:08 list I used to blame the

28:11 economy I blame the

28:14 community that's a pretty good list for

28:16 not doing well isn't it I thought it was

28:19 good I'll never forget one day Mr scha

28:23 was very kind but he was also very

28:25 blunt and this was no exception and I'm

28:28 glad he was blunt there's a lot of

28:29 things I'd have missed if he hadn't have

28:31 been

28:32 blunt one day with sort of a curious

28:34 look on his face he said Jim just out of

28:36 curiosity tell me how come you haven't

28:38 done well up until

28:41 now excellent

28:45 question I thought well so I won't look

28:47 too bad I'll go through my

28:51 list and this list I just gave you I put

28:54 that on him and he was very patient he

28:57 let me go through the the whole thing

28:58 the government the weather I went

28:59 through this whole thing when I finished

29:02 he looked my list over very carefully he

29:04 said Mr R big problem with your list you

29:06 ain't on

29:10 it how

29:17 brilant when I went to work for him a

29:20 few months later I learned very quickly

29:22 to tear up my list reasons for not doing

29:24 well and I threw it away and I got me a

29:26 fresh piece of paper and I put one word

29:29 on it

29:32 me there's a black Heritage spiritual

29:35 that says it's not my mother nor my

29:37 father nor my brother nor my sister but

29:39 it's me oh Lord standing in the need of

29:44 prayer see I used to blame everything

29:47 outside and then let me give you a

29:49 little philosophy that helped turn my

29:50 life

29:51 around for your notes here it

29:54 is it's not

29:58 what

30:02 happens that determines the quality or

30:04 the quantity of your life it's not what

30:08 happens and the reason is because what

30:10 happens happens to about everybody no

30:13 different the sun went down on all of us

30:16 last

30:16 night a common event a

30:19 happening and I found out that the same

30:22 things can happen to two different

30:23 people one gets rich and one stays poor

30:26 why is that it's because it's not what

30:29 happens but

30:31 rather it's what you do that changes

30:39 everything so that's a key phrase It's

30:42 not what happens it's what you

30:45 do what happens is about the same you

30:47 might put that in parenthesis here same

30:50 what people do that's what's

30:55 different anything can happen right

30:57 every can happen I've heard all the

30:59 stories I've been one of the

31:01 stories hey we could all tell stories

31:03 all night long right

31:06 happenings Anything Can Happen have you

31:08 heard of Murphy's laws anybody here

31:10 heard of Murphy's laws okay most of you

31:13 have murf had these

31:15 laws one of them was if anything can go

31:18 wrong it will that's one of Murphy's

31:21 laws he was not one of the great

31:24 positive speakers of the day but anyway

31:26 it's still true though right anything

31:28 can go wrong everything can go wrong for

31:31 sure I've fallen out of the sky so many

31:36 times once to the tune of a couple of

31:40 million devastating took me a while to

31:42 survive that

31:45 one now it wasn't all that much but it

31:47 was all ah

31:48 head I mean that's when it's much right

31:50 when it's all you got if you got three

31:53 two go you got one left you ain't

31:55 looking that bad but when it all goes

31:58 has anybody been there when it all went

32:01 anybody come on rest of you Liars

32:05 go hey we've all been there right when

32:07 it all

32:10 went of course it used to be a long time

32:12 ago right when you ran out of money got

32:14 to zero you were all through heck now

32:16 you can whistle right on by zero right I

32:19 mean they will bury you that's what they

32:21 will

32:26 do but see those are the happenings

32:29 right everything can happen anything can

32:31 happen but it's not the happenings it's

32:33 what you do about it somebody says yeah

32:36 but you don't understand the

32:38 disappointments I've

32:40 had come

32:42 on everybody's had their

32:45 share disappointments are not special

32:48 gifts reserved for the

32:50 poor everybody has them the difference

32:53 is what you do about

32:56 them it's not the weather I used to

32:58 blame the weather and I discovered it

33:01 rains on the rich so see that won't

33:05 help two men wake up one morning there's

33:07 a rainstorm on one of them looks out his

33:09 window sees the rainstorm and he says

33:11 wow what a storm with weather like this

33:13 they can't expect you to go out and make

33:15 sales he stays

33:19 home same morning the other guy looks

33:21 out his window sees the same storm says

33:24 wow what a storm but he says you know

33:26 what with weather like this what a great

33:28 day to go out and make sales most

33:30 everybody will probably be

33:31 home especially the

33:38 salesman see that's the difference in

33:40 how your life works out it's not what

33:42 happens it's what you do so here's one

33:44 of the key questions of the evening

33:45 starting tomorrow what are you going to

33:48 do that'll make a change in your life's

33:52 Direction good question what are you

33:54 going to do starting tomorrow that'll

33:55 make a difference

33:59 now see if you don't do something

34:00 starting tomorrow that'll make a

34:01 difference guess

34:03 what it's going to be the

34:09 same and see that way you can guess what

34:11 the next five years are going to be like

34:12 look at the last

34:15 five cuz the next five are going to be

34:17 like the last five unless you major key

34:20 tomorrow change it all or change a

34:23 little or change something or don't

34:25 change it's Choice time you can do

34:27 whatever you you want but it's nice to

34:29 know any day you wish you can change

34:31 your whole

34:35 life what can you do starting tomorrow

34:39 that'll make a

34:41 difference good

34:44 question what can you do with economic

34:47 chaos massive

34:49 disappointment what can you do with a

34:51 broken heart what can you do and it

34:52 won't work good

34:55 question so if I had a word with you

34:57 tonight oneon-one just you and me I

35:01 think my personal advice to you would be

35:04 this year 1981 reach down inside of

35:09 you and come up with some more of those

35:11 remarkable human

35:13 gifts they're there waiting to be

35:16 utilized and then change anything for

35:19 you you want to

35:20 change and I challenge you to do that

35:22 because you can

35:24 change if you don't like how it is for

35:26 you change it if it doesn't suit you

35:28 change it if it doesn't please you

35:29 change it if it isn't enough change it

35:32 and I challenge you to do that because

35:33 you can change see you don't ever have

35:36 to be the same again after tonight only

35:39 by

35:43 choice if you don't like your present

35:45 address change it you're not a tree

35:54 [Music]

35:57 yeah now let me give you three steps to

35:59 personal development let's get down to

36:00 the nitty-gritty what does it take to

36:02 really make the changes starting

36:04 tomorrow it takes more than

36:06 philosophical pronouncement I know

36:10 that it also takes more than enthusiasm

36:12 I know we're hearing a lot about

36:13 enthusiasm these days but see that just

36:15 won't do the

36:17 job we're still here on the old cliches

36:19 of the 30s right to be enthusiastic you

36:21 must act

36:23 enthusiastic but see that's not going to

36:25 help after you have leaped about there

36:27 are some things you got to

36:29 do or it isn't going to

36:33 [Music]

36:34 change see you can get all excited about

36:37 lifting 200 lb till you get to the

36:40 gym and then you need a new

36:43 excitement and the new excitement is

36:45 called

36:48 discipline major step to human progress

36:53 discipline if there's one thing to get

36:55 excited over that's it get excited over

36:57 your ability to make yourself do the

37:01 necessary

37:03 things what could you make yourself do

37:06 starting tomorrow that would change it

37:07 all no tell

37:12 it now see that's exciting on any given

37:17 day you can massively change the

37:18 direction of your

37:21 life murder is a clear example that any

37:24 one person on any given day can forever

37:26 alter the course of their life it just

37:29 happens to be a negative

37:32 act but just as sure as you can commit a

37:35 negative act you can also commit a

37:38 positive act and forever alter your life

37:41 whenever you wish now that's

37:44 exciting and whatever that act might be

37:46 that changes your

37:50 life the guy finally takes a shotgun to

37:53 his

37:54 car and blows out every window destroys

37:57 every retire puts 100 rounds in this

37:59 shabby old thing and he says I have

38:01 driven this embarrassing thing for the

38:03 last

38:05 time and not only will I never drive it

38:08 again nobody else will ever drive it

38:11 again and he lets that shuttering things

38:14 stand there for a while as a monument to

38:16 the day he said today my life changes

38:19 now who can do that anybody when can you

38:21 do it whatever day you pick

38:24 [Music]

38:32 now here's the key to discipline start

38:35 with the little disciplines get excited

38:36 over the little

38:38 disciplines and get right on those

38:40 because those will lead to the big ones

38:42 you can't handle the big challenges in

38:44 life unless you take on the little ones

38:45 make a list of all the things you can do

38:47 get right on those discipline yourself

38:49 for those both for the results and for

38:51 the muscle and for the practice so that

38:53 when life hands you some big challenges

38:55 you'll be ready you'll have the muscle

38:58 but see if you don't handle the small

39:00 ones you can't take care of the big

39:07 ones okay here's what else it takes for

39:10 life change self

39:12 motivation key phrase self-

39:15 motivation I don't know why we call it

39:17 self motivation it's really the only

39:18 kind there is you got to motivate

39:20 yourself because I found out you can't

39:22 change people they can change themselves

39:24 but you can't change them Lord knows

39:26 some I've tried

39:28 but see it won't

39:31 work people have to change themselves I

39:35 learned some of those lessons early I

39:36 built a little sales organization way

39:38 back in those early days I'm

39:39 25 and I had some nice

39:42 people I said I'm going to make these

39:44 people successful if it kills me I

39:46 almost died I mean you can't do that

39:58 see I discovered this good people are

40:00 not trained they're

40:02 found you find good people you don't

40:05 make them good you find them

40:08 good training really is for the purpose

40:10 of finding good people you don't need

40:11 much instruction for a good

40:13 person but too much training probably

40:15 means you got the wrong

40:21 people so you got to find the right

40:24 people that's the key to getting a good

40:26 job done well one of the major things we

40:28 learn in man management lesson one don't

40:30 send your ducks to Eagle

40:32 [Laughter]

40:36 [Music]

40:39 school cuz it won't help I mean I'm

40:41 telling you it won't help no matter how

40:42 good your school is and the little Eagle

40:45 badge and little Eagle hat I'm telling

40:47 you it won't help it won't

40:51 help you can tell whether your school's

40:53 done any good right is when it's over

40:56 right the duck goes for his first rabbit

40:58 and makes him a friend you say no no

41:03 no

41:04 anyway so it takes self motivation to

41:07 really alter your life and you don't

41:10 want to give self motivation away to

41:11 somebody else and make it somebody else

41:13 motivating

41:14 you the guy says boy if somebody just

41:18 come by and turn me on what if they

41:20 don't show up right see you got to have

41:24 a better plan for your life

41:29 okay now if you're excited and you're

41:32 ready to change let me give you three

41:35 steps to start life change that can

41:37 change your life your personality your

41:39 lifestyle everything can change here's

41:41 the steps number

41:43 one find out

41:47 how

41:50 things

41:52 work the first key to doing better is

41:54 find out to change your life really you

41:56 need ideas

41:59 there isn't anything an idea can't

42:00 change and schul taught me the major

42:03 problem is lack of an idea not a

42:06 problem at first I didn't have any money

42:08 I said to Mr SCH I don't have any money

42:09 he said that's not a problem now see up

42:11 until then I always thought it was right

42:13 I was

42:15 confused he said no no the problem is

42:17 lack of an idea on how to create money

42:20 in wealth it isn't lack of money it's

42:22 lack of ideas so if you get the ideas so

42:24 you can change anything now to get ideas

42:26 you need a constant study of finding

42:30 out now scha also said when you find out

42:32 something that works put the information

42:35 in your

42:36 Journal don't use your head for a filing

42:39 cabinet put it in your Journal so that

42:41 you can do the next best thing

42:43 repetition repetition repetition go over

42:46 it and if you repeat it go over it sure

42:49 enough someday some mysterious day the

42:52 idea takes root starts to grow and shows

42:54 up in your bank account and your dress

42:56 and your person ity and your

42:59 lifestyle but capture the ideas in your

43:01 Journal find out how things

43:06 work scha gave me this word for my life

43:09 change he said

43:11 study great

43:13 word if you wish to be successful study

43:17 success if you wish to be happy study

43:20 happiness if you wish to be wealthy

43:23 study wealth don't leave it to chance

43:28 make it a

43:29 study some people just go through the

43:31 day with their fingers crossed see that

43:34 won't do it you've got to study the

43:37 things that can change your economic

43:39 social spiritual personal

43:45 life now here's a qualifying phrase and

43:47 we'll have several of these qualifying

43:49 phrases throughout the seminar here's

43:51 the first one you may not be able to do

43:53 all you find out I understand that you

43:57 may not be able to do all you find out

43:59 but you should find out all you can

44:03 do see you don't want to wind up at the

44:05 end of your life and discover that

44:06 you've lived only one tenth of it and

44:09 the other nine10 went down the

44:13 drain not for lack of opportunity for

44:15 lack of

44:16 information so that's number one find

44:18 out how things work now here's the best

44:21 human virtue for finding out curiosity

44:24 make a note of that Curiosity be curious

44:31 you might add a word to it that'll help

44:32 childish

44:39 curiosity what will kids do if they want

44:41 to know something bad

44:43 enough bug you that's the phrase they

44:47 can ask a thousand questions you think

44:48 they're through they got another

44:49 thousand they'll drive you to the

44:53 brink it's a virtue

44:57 when you got to

44:59 know be like a child in fact Jesus the

45:03 master teacher said unless you can

45:04 become like little children you might as

45:06 well forget it you don't have a prayer

45:09 excellent advice you got to be like

45:11 children four ways in my opinion to be

45:14 like a child number one's curiosity

45:16 number two is excitement get excited

45:18 like a child over your ability to make

45:20 yourself do anything for

45:22 change third is Faith have faith like a

45:25 child adults are too

45:29 skeptical and fourth is

45:31 trust trust is a childish virtue but the

45:34 rewards are

45:36 incredible so be like a

45:38 child now if you're

45:41 curious let me give you three ways to

45:43 find out how to change

45:47 anything any life Direction any

45:50 Dimension here's three ways to find out

45:52 how to change

45:53 anything number one is to read

45:57 become a good

45:59 reader all of the successful people I

46:02 know and work with around the world

46:03 they're all good readers curiosity

46:05 drives them to read they got to know

46:07 they just read read read read read read

46:09 read read

46:13 read become a good

46:17 reader now that's my opinion listen to

46:20 the other lecturers and listen to me and

46:22 make up your own mind don't be a

46:24 follower be a student

46:27 okay I say really for life change you

46:29 got to

46:30 read one way to learn is from your own

46:32 experiences but another way to learn is

46:34 from other people's experiences see one

46:38 book might save you five

46:41 years if you read

46:46 it did you know there's books on how to

46:48 be stronger more decisive be a speaker

46:51 be a leader have a better effect on

46:53 other people develop your personality

46:55 did you know there's books on that

46:58 and people don't read

47:00 them how would you explain

47:02 that and they can

47:06 read did you know that hundreds of

47:08 successful people have written their

47:10 stories in books and they wrote down how

47:13 they did it and people don't read it how

47:17 would you explain

47:20 that the guy's busy I

47:23 guess you know you get tied up

47:27 the guy says well yeah you work where I

47:29 work but the time you struggle home it's

47:30 late you got to eat a bite to supper

47:32 watch little TV get to bed you can't sit

47:35 up half the night reading reading

47:37 reading reading and the guy's behind on

47:39 his car

47:43 payment good worker hard worker

47:48 sincere but you got to be better than

47:50 sincere and work hard otherwise at the

47:54 end of your life you'll wind up cold

47:56 Stony broke

47:57 you got to be better than a good worker

47:59 you got to be a good

48:03 reader the whole world is governed by

48:05 laws the universe in fact laws we call

48:08 it the law of electricity we call it the

48:10 law of gravity there's mathematical laws

48:14 there's physical laws speed and velocity

48:17 laws agricultural laws there's all kinds

48:19 of

48:20 laws now that we find ourselves on the

48:23 spinning Planet you just have to learn

48:25 what I call the setup

48:27 learn the setup

48:31 life's

48:34 setup now we didn't set it up but we're

48:38 here so you got to learn it and we

48:40 should learn the setup for two basic

48:42 reasons number one to keep from getting

48:44 hurt it's one of the major reasons for

48:47 learning so you won't get

48:49 hurt the economically socially

48:51 personally you can get hurt just not

48:54 knowing ignorance is not

48:57 Bliss ignorance is poverty ignorance is

49:00 tragedy you got to know or you're going

49:03 to get

49:05 hurt it's good to know not to walk out

49:07 the 10-story window that's excellent

49:10 information now what if a guy didn't

49:12 know and he walks out now he's dead at

49:14 the bottom somebody says well the poor

49:16 guy didn't

49:17 know you got to

49:19 know or you're going to get

49:22 hurt okay now here's a parenthesis

49:27 you don't have to like the

49:29 setup I don't ask you to like how it

49:33 is that's not what's important but it is

49:36 important to learn how it

49:39 is okay so you don't have to like it but

49:42 you should learn

49:43 it that's what I tell the kids right

49:46 make sure you get the

49:49 information what you think about it

49:51 that's up to you what you're going to do

49:52 with it that'll soon be up to you but

49:54 make sure you get it

49:57 see there's nothing worse than being

49:59 stupid

50:01 nothing I mean being broke is bad but

50:05 being stupid is

50:08 awful and what's really bad is being

50:10 broken stupid right that's about the end

50:13 of the world I mean there isn't anything

50:15 much worse than that unless you're

50:17 sick sick broken stupid I mean that is

50:20 it right there's nowhere else to

50:25 go so make sure you get the information

50:28 it's key you don't have to like it but

50:31 learn

50:33 it if this big monstrous thing lifts up

50:35 in the sky hangs there for a little

50:38 while Cuts loose comes crashing down

50:40 boom shakes the ground for five

50:42 miles and then this big monstrous thing

50:45 lifts back up in the sky hangs there for

50:47 a little while Cuts loose again comes

50:49 crashing down boom shakes the ground for

50:50 five miles it just keeps doing that this

50:52 big monstrous thing lifting up and then

50:55 crashing down boom

50:57 now you might come along one day and say

51:00 that's got to be a stupid

51:02 Arrangement which is okay you're

51:04 entitled to your opinion but the first

51:06 thing you should learn to do is get out

51:08 from under it right that's number

51:12 one you might have a great moral

51:14 argument you might want to shake your

51:16 finger at the sky but do it from over

51:18 there right so you don't get

51:20 smashed it's called your basic

51:24 smart so number one learn so you won't

51:27 get hurt whether you like it or not

51:29 learn now here's the second reason for

51:32 learning the setup to

51:35 benefit it's called the plus of

51:38 life and that's what life is Right both

51:40 minus and plus the minus is tragedy

51:44 heartache misery failure

51:47 unhappiness but life is also happiness

51:50 Prosperity good feelings so here's the

51:53 key learn to get on the good side of the

51:56 way things

52:03 work now here's two of the basic laws

52:05 and we'll take our break scha taught me

52:08 these they come from the Bible now again

52:11 I'm an amateur okay when it comes to the

52:13 Bible I'm not a pro so you'll sort of

52:15 have to take my way of putting it but

52:17 here they are the first one is the law

52:19 of

52:20 use the law of

52:23 use and it goes something like this

52:25 whatever you don't use you

52:29 lose lack of use causes

52:36 loss on this planet maybe not the next

52:40 one but on this

52:41 one if you tie your arm to your body

52:44 leave it there long enough you'll never

52:45 use it

52:47 again it's over for the arm now may not

52:50 be over but it's over for the arm the

52:52 only way to keep the use of this arm is

52:54 what keep using it if you

52:57 you lose

52:59 automatically they don't bring it up for

53:01 a

53:02 vote you lose automatically when you

53:04 quit now the same thing that goes for

53:07 your arm goes for your brain mentality

53:10 the same thing goes for all the human

53:12 virtues ambition unused

53:17 declines strong feelings

53:20 unused

53:22 diminish it doesn't grow it diminishes

53:26 Faith unused

53:31 decreases it's a

53:33 law Vitality unused diminishes energy

53:37 unused

53:39 decreases the guy says well I'm going to

53:41 save up my energy you can't do

53:45 that that's like trying to save today

53:47 put it on the end of the year see you

53:49 can't do that they'll come take you

53:51 away if you don't use today

53:54 what it's lost the guy says well I'll

53:57 work twice as hard tomorrow to make up

53:58 for it see that's foolish you could have

54:00 done that anyway today unused is lost a

54:03 talent unused is lost an ability unused

54:06 is lost so here's one of the key

54:08 expressions of the evening take a new

54:10 inventory of

54:13 yourself starting tomorrow new project

54:16 take a new

54:18 inventory and make sure that all of your

54:21 talent and ability and mentality and

54:23 Ingenuity and vitality and strong

54:25 feelings

54:26 Faith courage make sure that all you've

54:28 got's being used otherwise you

54:31 [Music]

54:34 lose now one of the best illustrations

54:36 of the law of use is a Bible story

54:38 called the parable of the

54:43 talents the talent story interesting

54:46 story if you haven't read it in a while

54:48 just review it it's a good story an

54:50 ancient story says there was a Master

54:52 with three servants he got them together

54:54 one day and he said to the three I've

54:58 got these

54:59 talents and in those ancient days a

55:01 talent was a measure of

55:04 gold and he said to the three servants

55:06 take these talents and see what you can

55:08 do with them while I'm gone he said I'm

55:09 taking a journey and I'll be gone for a

55:11 while when I come back we'll get

55:12 together go over the book see how you

55:14 did he said here's five of these talents

55:16 for you

55:18 five here's two of them for you

55:21 two and here's one for you one the

55:26 master said take those talents see what

55:28 you can do with them when I come back

55:29 we'll get together we'll go over it all

55:31 the servant said okay Master takes off

55:34 according to the ancient story The

55:36 Master comes back from his trip when he

55:38 gets back he gets the three servants

55:41 together and as he said he would he asks

55:44 how did it go with those

55:48 talents you were five what happened that

55:51 servant said well I took the five

55:53 talents you gave me and I put them to

55:56 work

55:57 a little shaky at first but he said

55:58 things finally got rolling and he said I

56:00 poured it on and he said my talents grew

56:02 to 7 8 9

56:04 10 he said I doubled my talents from 5

56:07 to 10 books will show Master

56:12 said one heck of a

56:14 job or something like

56:17 that he said I gave you two talents what

56:19 happened that servant said about the

56:21 same thing happened to me I put those

56:23 two talents to work poured it on they

56:25 grew to three and then to four he said I

56:27 doubled my talents from two to four

56:29 books will show Master

56:31 said well

56:34 done he said I gave you one Talent what

56:37 happened that servant said well I took

56:40 the talent you gave me and I carefully

56:42 wrecked it and I dug a hole and buried

56:47 it and camouflaged it I suppose right so

56:51 nobody would steal it and he said

56:53 fortunately nobody got it

56:56 and he said I knew you were going to be

56:58 here today so I dug it up here it is

56:59 safely wrapped I did not lose it while

57:04 you were

57:05 gone according to the ancient story The

57:09 Master said take that Talent away from

57:15 him and give it to the man that's got

57:21 10 now you might say well I don't like

57:23 that

57:25 arrangement the poor guy's only got one

57:28 Talent he's already got

57:31 10 it ought to be

57:34 more

57:37 even remember I didn't ask you to like

57:40 it but this one I would ask you to learn

57:43 because it simply means whatever you do

57:46 not employ you

57:51 forfeit it's a

57:53 law so learn well the law of use

57:58 now here's the second one and we're

57:59 going to take our

58:00 break Second Law from the

58:05 Bible this one we've heard since we were

58:07 small I'm sure it's called The Law of

58:10 sewing and

58:16 reaping in fact we probably heard it so

58:18 often we could quote

58:21 it it says whatever you sow

58:24 what you shall shall

58:29 reap fairly blunt hopefully

58:33 clear here's my first suggestion on the

58:35 law of sewing and reaping don't try to

58:37 beat

58:39 it you might as well try sitting on the

58:42 sun in the morning keep it from coming

58:43 up you'll have better

58:45 luck whatever you sew you

58:50 reap now for a fair share of my life I'm

58:52 a bit mixed up on how all this applies

58:54 among a lot of things I was mixed up

58:57 F I knew I wasn't reaping too good that

59:00 I

59:01 understood my problem was I was confused

59:04 about what was causing it remember me

59:07 with a funny list I thought those are

59:09 the reasons why it isn't working out

59:10 well and then Mr scha gave me the clue

59:13 that helped me figure it all out he said

59:15 Mr on I have another answer for you

59:17 there's another way to quote this

59:20 law that'll show you where the problem

59:22 is so you can go to work on it right

59:23 away all you need to know is where the

59:25 problem is then you can go to work on it

59:28 so he quoted me the law another way and

59:30 I found out what my problem was here's

59:31 the way you quote the

59:33 Law whatever you reap is what you've

59:40 sown now I knew what my problem

59:44 was whatever you reap is what you've

59:49 sown if you don't like the crop who do

59:52 you look up answer whoever planted it

59:57 and where do you find who planted your

59:59 crop answer in the

1:00:03 mirror what I finally learned to do

1:00:05 comef fall was to go to the mirror

1:00:07 that's where you

1:00:09 go and if necessary you say a few skinny

1:00:14 carrots I got to be

1:00:17 unimpressed where were you last spring

1:00:21 asleep didn't you read the books did you

1:00:25 break your ho

1:00:30 let me give you seven key points to the

1:00:32 law of sewing and reaping let's tick

1:00:33 right down through the list of seven and

1:00:36 it'll be break

1:00:39 time seven points to sewing and reaping

1:00:42 here's part of the philosophy that

1:00:43 really helped me to make some changes in

1:00:45 life Direction Number One the law of

1:00:47 sewing and reaping is

1:00:50 negative that's number one which simply

1:00:53 means if you so bad you reap

1:00:57 bad now this is kind of third grade but

1:00:59 it doesn't hurt to go over the

1:01:03 basics if you plant thistle seeds you

1:01:05 don't get

1:01:08 pumpkins honest no use looking for

1:01:11 pumpkins John says how come no

1:01:14 pumpkins come on John the law is

1:01:18 negative that's how

1:01:20 come now here's number two the law is

1:01:24 positive

1:01:26 which simply means if you seow good you

1:01:28 reap

1:01:29 good if you plant pumpkin seeds you

1:01:31 don't get thistles not from pumpkin

1:01:35 seeds Mother Nature won't pull tricks on

1:01:37 you over in the corner Snicker and push

1:01:38 new thistles and you plant and pumpkin

1:01:40 seeds she won't do that you will get

1:01:42 pumpkins from pumpkin seeds and the

1:01:44 reason is because the law is

1:01:46 positive now here's number

1:01:48 three I got excited when I found out the

1:01:50 full dimension of this see you do not

1:01:54 reap what you sow

1:01:56 but

1:01:57 rather you always reap much more than

1:02:02 what you

1:02:03 sell so the third key word is

1:02:08 more you don't get back what you put out

1:02:12 you get back much

1:02:15 more than what you put out and it works

1:02:19 both positive and

1:02:24 negative on the negative side it said if

1:02:27 you sew to the wind you reap the Whirl

1:02:31 wind so you got to get ready for that or

1:02:33 you will be naive but now it also works

1:02:38 positive if you plant a cup of corn in

1:02:41 the spring how much corn do you reap in

1:02:42 the fall not a cup you might as well

1:02:45 keep the cup you

1:02:47 got why go to all the trouble planting a

1:02:50 cup of corn in the spring water it and

1:02:51 take care of it all summer look after it

1:02:53 carefully cross your fingers and pray

1:02:56 why go through all that reason come fall

1:02:59 you could well get a bushel for the cup

1:03:03 a bushel for a cup it's called one of

1:03:05 life's better

1:03:09 deals guy says well yeah I'll figure out

1:03:11 how that works you could get rich that's

1:03:12 right that's

1:03:17 right then how come more people aren't

1:03:21 wealthy they don't study much sew and

1:03:23 reap

1:03:26 the guy says well yeah you work where I

1:03:27 work but the time you struggle home it's

1:03:30 late you got to eat a buite to supper

1:03:32 watch little

1:03:34 TV here's number

1:03:37 four fourth key to sewing and reaping

1:03:40 there are many ways to sew and

1:03:43 reap there's many ways to change your

1:03:46 life there's many ways to get promoted

1:03:48 there's many ways to move up there's

1:03:50 many ways for financial

1:03:52 Independence there's so many ways to do

1:03:55 well especially in this country you

1:03:57 don't have to go without

1:04:00 any if we lived in the middle of Africa

1:04:03 the middle of India with economic

1:04:05 disaster all around you might have some

1:04:06 excuses for not doing well but not here

1:04:09 there's too many ways

1:04:11 here there's too many libraries there's

1:04:14 too many classes there's too many

1:04:17 seminars there's too much information

1:04:18 there's too many

1:04:19 books there's too much Capital there's

1:04:22 too much help there's too much training

1:04:24 here not to do well well there's too

1:04:26 many ways so find you some ways there's

1:04:32 plenty here's the fourth key to sewing

1:04:36 and reaping are

1:04:38 five and that key word is anyone anyone

1:04:41 can sew and reap that's what's

1:04:44 exciting anyone

1:04:47 can now the question is whether or not

1:04:49 you

1:04:51 will but can is not the question

1:04:55 will is the question anyone

1:05:00 can Mr Kio says try my plan I put it

1:05:03 together the Kio plan put aside $145 a

1:05:06 month for the next 30 years it's a

1:05:08 million dollar with the tax advantages 1

1:05:11 million 30 years Kio plan $145 a

1:05:15 month not a bad plan become a

1:05:21 millionaire now anybody

1:05:23 can the question is who will

1:05:26 that's the

1:05:28 question son asked his father when his

1:05:31 father's 50 we're rich right the Kio

1:05:36 thing his father said no no we're not

1:05:39 rich his son says well the the Kio thing

1:05:41 the 145 a month k thing he says yeah I

1:05:43 know the k thing but I didn't go for

1:05:47 that son says you didn't says

1:05:53 no I picked a another

1:05:58 plan for the

1:06:00 $145 so what' you do with $45 said well

1:06:02 I bought beer and

1:06:05 [Laughter]

1:06:12 cigarettes see anybody can whether you

1:06:16 will or not see that's the

1:06:18 question and here's a good question to

1:06:21 ask we are all buying somebody's plan

1:06:24 the question is who

1:06:27 who's got you talked into doing what

1:06:28 you're

1:06:30 doing who's got you talked into your

1:06:32 present

1:06:34 plan see 10 years from now you will

1:06:36 surely arrive the question is

1:06:41 where but see anybody if you want to can

1:06:44 go searching for a good plan pick it and

1:06:46 start working it and sure enough as the

1:06:48 time passes as it surely will 5 years

1:06:49 from now 10 years from now then you'll

1:06:51 be winding up wearing what you want to

1:06:52 wear driving what you want to drive

1:06:54 living where you want to live become

1:06:55 what you want to become but now is the

1:06:57 time to fix the next 10 years and who

1:07:03 can

1:07:07 anybody here's number

1:07:09 six the sixth key to sewing and reaping

1:07:12 this is leveling with you now as we

1:07:13 promis to do there's one thing better

1:07:16 than the truth and that's the whole

1:07:19 truth and here's part of the whole truth

1:07:21 of the law of sewing and reaping number

1:07:23 six is you could lose

1:07:29 there are times when you just lose no

1:07:31 matter what you do it's that kind of

1:07:34 planet you reap what you sow yes

1:07:38 but what does that mean yes but

1:07:42 well the farmer plants his crop in the

1:07:45 spring takes care of it all summer loves

1:07:48 his family Works 10 12 hours a day six

1:07:50 seven days a week is an honorable

1:07:53 man come fall he's got a beautiful crop

1:07:57 and he deserves every bit of

1:07:59 it but the day before he sends the

1:08:02 combines into the field a hail storm

1:08:05 comes along and beats it all in the

1:08:08 ground which means you

1:08:14 lose somebody says well what did he do

1:08:17 wrong answer nothing it's just that kind

1:08:20 of

1:08:22 planet sometimes it's going to hail on

1:08:24 your crop

1:08:26 and rain on your parade so you got to

1:08:29 get ready for that or you will be naive

1:08:31 that's just part of the life

1:08:34 Arrangement and don't press me why I was

1:08:37 not in on some of the original decisions

1:08:38 here so I don't know how it got set

1:08:40 up but there's just times sometimes you

1:08:43 lose that's part of life but now here's

1:08:45 number seven the seventh key to sewing

1:08:48 and

1:08:50 reaping and it goes like this it's just

1:08:53 another way to quote the same law and it

1:08:55 goes like

1:08:56 this if

1:08:58 you don't

1:09:04 so that's just another way to quote the

1:09:06 law if you don't SE what you don't reap

1:09:10 you don't even have a

1:09:13 [Music]

1:09:16 chance so if you looked at your game

1:09:18 plan tomorrow you might come to the

1:09:20 quick conclusion I got to get some seing

1:09:22 going how true get some SE and

1:09:26 going and remember you've got plenty of

1:09:29 time you've got all the time there

1:09:32 is some people spend enough TV time to

1:09:35 make a

1:09:38 fortune the latest article on television

1:09:40 watching in this country according to

1:09:41 the latest article the average

1:09:43 television is on in this country in

1:09:44 every household s hours a day called the

1:09:48 big

1:09:51 seven I asked a guy one time what his TV

1:09:54 cost he said about

1:09:56 $450 I said you forgot to look at the

1:09:59 price

1:10:01 tag he said what do you mean I knew he

1:10:04 was a TV Watcher I said that television

1:10:07 cost you in my opinion at least $122,000

1:10:10 a

1:10:11 year to watch it not to own it owning it

1:10:17 cheap watching it is what's expensive

1:10:21 and I said hey 12,000 a year is too much

1:10:23 to pay to watch TV that's too much pay a

1:10:25 little but not

1:10:29 12,000 and he's the guy that said I hope

1:10:31 pay TV never

1:10:40 comes okay we're trying to cover an

1:10:43 awful lot tonight I realize that but my

1:10:46 time schedule is such that uh we just

1:10:49 have to sort of give it all to you and

1:10:51 let you uh sort the rest out I wish we

1:10:54 had plenty of time for questions and

1:10:55 answers and that whole thing but our

1:10:57 time is just

1:10:58 limited but we are trying to go through

1:11:00 an awful lot I realize that but uh looks

1:11:03 like everybody's getting it this about

1:11:05 the note- takest crowd I've seen in a

1:11:07 long time incredible does anybody have

1:11:09 five pages yet anybody oh

1:11:14 fantastic

1:11:16 incredible

1:11:19 okay maybe you heard the story about the

1:11:22 preacher down in Texas southern part of

1:11:24 the country

1:11:26 um he was an evangelist back in the

1:11:28 horse and buggy

1:11:30 days and he was very good at being an

1:11:33 evangelist and a lot of people used to

1:11:35 come and hear him preach and one day he

1:11:37 put up his tent in one of these Texas

1:11:38 towns and expected a big crowd as usual

1:11:40 come hear him preach and he got there

1:11:43 first night of the Tent Revival walked

1:11:45 in 07:30 time to start and to his

1:11:49 surprise the tent was

1:11:52 empty he thought well something must be

1:11:54 draged drastically

1:11:56 wrong so he waited till qu to 8 nobody

1:11:59 showed up 08:00

1:12:01 zip

1:12:03 finally

1:12:05 08:15 one lone C

1:12:07 Cowboy wandered up on his horse tied his

1:12:10 horse up outside came in sat down on the

1:12:12 front bench right waiting for something

1:12:15 to happen the preacher thought well at

1:12:17 least I better go down and talk to the

1:12:19 Cowboy so he walks down talks to the

1:12:21 Cowboy and he says Cowboy I'm the

1:12:24 preacher

1:12:26 and he said I don't know what to tell

1:12:27 you something's gone wrong he said this

1:12:30 tent was supposed to be full of people

1:12:32 he said I'm embarrassed he said you're

1:12:35 the only one that showed up and he said

1:12:37 I really don't know what to

1:12:39 do and the cowboy said well I'm not a

1:12:42 preacher so I really can't tell you what

1:12:44 to do you know he said I'm just a

1:12:45 cowboy but he said I know this if I went

1:12:48 out to feed my cattle and only one

1:12:50 showed up I'd at least feed

1:12:53 it the preacher thought

1:12:55 hey the cowboy is right if you've got a

1:12:59 good idea to share you should share it

1:13:01 if there's one or a

1:13:03 thousand so he got kind of inspired by

1:13:05 this conversation and he jumped up on

1:13:07 the platform started to preach as if the

1:13:10 tent was full of people just exploded

1:13:12 and he went for an hour hour and 15

1:13:15 minutes just kept rolling finally he

1:13:18 quit and when he finished he came down

1:13:21 off the platform talked to the Cowboy

1:13:22 again says well Cowboy what did you

1:13:24 think I'm a a sermon and the cowboy said

1:13:27 well I'm not a preacher so I really

1:13:29 can't tell you know he said I'm just a

1:13:31 cowboy but he said I know this if I went

1:13:34 out to feed my cattle and only one

1:13:35 showed up I'd feed it but I wouldn't

1:13:38 dump the whole load on

1:13:44 it so

1:13:47 anyway if it seems like we're dumping

1:13:49 the whole load tonight I guess we are

1:13:51 but uh gosh everybody's doing well I'm

1:13:53 having a good time I appreciate the

1:13:55 response here tonight okay the next

1:13:57 subject is setting

1:14:00 goals let me show you what turned my

1:14:03 life every Way but

1:14:05 Loose Mr scha dropped this idea on me

1:14:08 changed me

1:14:11 completely setting goals here's what can

1:14:14 easily happen if you don't set goals

1:14:17 it's easy to let life deteriorate into

1:14:20 making a

1:14:22 living instead of Designing a life

1:14:25 and we all have a choice make a living

1:14:29 or design a

1:14:34 life it's easy to get trapped by

1:14:37 economic necessity and settle for

1:14:40 existence rather than substance that's

1:14:44 easy but the best advice I I can give

1:14:46 you on how to break out of that trap is

1:14:47 to learn how to set

1:14:51 goals Mr scha put it to me this way he

1:14:54 said Jim if you had enough reasons you

1:14:57 could do the most incredible things I

1:14:59 never forgot how he put that if you have

1:15:05 enough

1:15:08 reasons see reasons will change your

1:15:11 whole

1:15:13 life Mr scha said to me he said Mr R I

1:15:16 think you've got plenty of intelligence

1:15:18 you've got plenty of talent you've got

1:15:19 plenty of ability probably what you lack

1:15:22 is plenty of reasons

1:15:26 he said I don't think your current bank

1:15:28 balance is a true indication of your

1:15:30 level of

1:15:32 intelligence I was happy to hear

1:15:34 that he said I think you're much smarter

1:15:38 than your present bank balance

1:15:40 indicates and that turned out to be true

1:15:42 I was much

1:15:43 smarter but of course my first question

1:15:46 was well then why isn't it bigger and he

1:15:48 said you don't have enough

1:15:51 reasons you've got enough intelligence

1:15:55 but not enough

1:15:57 reasons so see reasons can change your

1:16:00 life here's what else I found out

1:16:02 reasons come first answers come

1:16:06 second you don't get the answers to do

1:16:09 well till you get the

1:16:13 reasons life has a mysterious way of

1:16:15 hanging on to all the answers and only

1:16:18 gives them up to the people that are

1:16:20 inspired by

1:16:22 reasons so reasons make the difference

1:16:25 in how your life works out now what are

1:16:27 some of the reasons for doing well let's

1:16:28 go through a quick list called reasons

1:16:30 for doing

1:16:34 well first is personal reasons some

1:16:38 people do well for recognition some

1:16:40 people do well for

1:16:42 respect some people do well for the way

1:16:45 it makes them feel they love the feeling

1:16:49 of being a winner those are good reasons

1:16:55 I have some millionaire friends that

1:16:56 keep working 10 12 hours a day making

1:16:59 more

1:17:01 millions and it's not because they need

1:17:04 the

1:17:05 money it's because they need the joy and

1:17:10 the

1:17:11 satisfaction and the pleasure that comes

1:17:14 from being a constant

1:17:17 winner and see it's not just the money

1:17:19 anyway it's the journey not the

1:17:23 money once in a somebody says to me boy

1:17:26 if I had a million dollars I'd never

1:17:27 work another day in my life that's

1:17:29 probably why the good Lord sees to it

1:17:31 they don't get their million right

1:17:33 they'd quit they'd

1:17:39 quit okay next is family reasons some

1:17:43 people do extremely well for other

1:17:45 people and that's

1:17:47 powerful human beings can greatly affect

1:17:51 each

1:17:53 other sometimes we will do things for

1:17:55 somebody else we will not do for

1:17:58 ourselves we are made that

1:18:03 way I met a man one time who said Mr R

1:18:05 to do all the things I want to do with

1:18:07 my family around the world he said I got

1:18:09 to have at least a quarter of a million

1:18:11 dollars a

1:18:12 year I thought

1:18:17 incredible could a guy's family affect

1:18:20 him that much and the answer is of of

1:18:26 course how fortunate are the people that

1:18:29 find themselves greatly affected by

1:18:32 somebody for Personal

1:18:37 Achievement and we are

1:18:40 affected the writer of a recent song

1:18:42 said if not for

1:18:45 you the winter would hold no spring

1:18:47 couldn't hear a robin Singh I just

1:18:51 wouldn't have a clue if not for you

1:18:56 so we can be affected that might be one

1:18:59 of the most stimulating reasons to do

1:19:01 well finding

1:19:04 somebody when Andrew Carnegie died the

1:19:08 we little Scotsman that built the big

1:19:09 steel industry when he died they opened

1:19:11 up his desk and in one of the desk

1:19:14 drawers they found a slip of paper on

1:19:16 that piece of paper Mr Carnegie had

1:19:18 written his goal for his life and he

1:19:21 wrote it when he was in his 20s

1:19:26 and on that piece of paper it said I'm

1:19:29 going to spend the first half of my life

1:19:31 accumulating money I'm going to spend

1:19:34 the last half of my life giving it all

1:19:40 away what a

1:19:42 goal he got so inspired by that goal

1:19:45 that the first half of his life he

1:19:47 accumulated $450 million and the last

1:19:51 half of his life he gave it all

1:19:57 away good question tonight what's got

1:20:00 you turned

1:20:01 on what's got you bombed out of sight to

1:20:04 get up early and stay up late and hit it

1:20:06 all

1:20:09 day next

1:20:12 question what's got you turned

1:20:17 off when I found the answers to those

1:20:20 two questions my life exploded into

1:20:22 change I finally found out what had me

1:20:25 turned off and I got that cured and then

1:20:28 I got me a long enough list of reasons

1:20:30 to turn me

1:20:31 on and once the lights went on for me

1:20:34 age 25 they've never gone

1:20:36 out I've fallen out of the sky a few

1:20:39 times but I've never lost that drive to

1:20:41 make something unique out of my life see

1:20:43 reasons altered my whole

1:20:48 life now there's another list of reasons

1:20:51 called nitty gritty

1:20:55 hard little reasons sometimes those

1:20:57 little reasons are the most powerful

1:20:59 reasons that can change your

1:21:02 life sometimes it doesn't take

1:21:06 much I now carry several hundred in my

1:21:10 money

1:21:11 clip it's only a few hundred but it was

1:21:14 one of those reasons turned my life

1:21:17 around just before I met Mr

1:21:20 scha I heard a knock at the door I go to

1:21:23 the door and there's a little girl

1:21:25 standing there about this tall selling

1:21:26 Girl Scout

1:21:28 cookies and she gave me one of the

1:21:30 finest sales presentations I've ever

1:21:32 heard special deal several flavors this

1:21:34 whole package of stuff

1:21:37 $2 and with a big smile she very

1:21:40 politely asked me to

1:21:43 buy and I wanted

1:21:46 to big

1:21:49 problem I'm

1:21:51 broke I don't have two dolls

1:21:56 and to this day I can remember the pain

1:21:59 and the

1:22:01 embarrassment I'm a father I'm a husband

1:22:05 I've been to college I'm working I'm 25

1:22:09 I don't have

1:22:10 [Music]

1:22:12 $2 and I didn't want to tell her that

1:22:15 for some

1:22:18 reason so I did what I thought was next

1:22:20 best I lied to

1:22:27 I said hey look I've already bought lots

1:22:30 of Girl Scout cookies I've still got

1:22:32 plenty stacked in the house which was

1:22:35 not

1:22:37 true but it seemed to get me off the

1:22:40 hook for the moment she said well gosh

1:22:43 that's wonderful thank you very much and

1:22:46 she went

1:22:48 away when she left I closed the door and

1:22:52 that was the day I said to myself I

1:22:54 don't want to live like this

1:22:58 anymore I've had it with lion and I've

1:23:02 had it with being broke I'm never going

1:23:04 to let this happen to me ever again I

1:23:07 promised that day I would work as hard

1:23:09 as possible and would always carry

1:23:12 plenty it took me a little

1:23:15 while but now I do it was one of those

1:23:18 reasons and I guess I carry plenty for

1:23:21 two reasons one is the way it makes me

1:23:22 feel but also in in case I bump into

1:23:25 another girl scout selling cookies right

1:23:28 I'm

1:23:33 ready I walked out of the Bank of

1:23:35 America one time up in Saratoga

1:23:37 California where I used to live two

1:23:40 little girls selling candy right outside

1:23:42 the bank good

1:23:45 place some girls organization they're

1:23:47 working for right I come walking out of

1:23:50 the bank this first little girl walks up

1:23:52 to me she said mister would you like to

1:23:53 buy some C candy I said I probably would

1:23:57 what kind is it she said it's Alman

1:24:02 Roa I said my gosh that's my

1:24:07 favorite she said

1:24:10 wonderful I said how much is it she said

1:24:13 it's just

1:24:15 $2 I thought

1:24:20 incredible I said how many boxes of that

1:24:23 candy have you got

1:24:26 she said

1:24:29 five and her little friend was standing

1:24:31 there she was selling candy too I said

1:24:33 how many boxes have you got she said

1:24:35 I've got four I said that's nine I'll

1:24:38 take them

1:24:40 all they said

1:24:43 really I said yeah it's my favorite I've

1:24:46 got some friends I'll pass them around

1:24:49 they got so excited put all this candy

1:24:51 together I reached in my pocket gave him

1:24:54 the 18

1:24:55 when I've got the candy and they've got

1:24:57 the money that first little girl looked

1:24:59 up looks up at me she says Mister you

1:25:02 are really

1:25:05 something how about that can you imagine

1:25:08 only spending

1:25:09 $18 and have somebody look at you in the

1:25:12 face and say you are really

1:25:15 something now you know why I carry heavy

1:25:19 right I'm not going to miss anymore

1:25:25 it was just one of those reasons helped

1:25:27 to change my life one of my nitty-gritty

1:25:30 reasons was Budget

1:25:32 Finance Budget Finance used to grind my

1:25:40 soul way back in those early days I had

1:25:43 fallen for one of those consolidation

1:25:46 loans where you take all your little

1:25:49 hard to pay bills put them into one big

1:25:51 impossible to pay bill right

1:26:00 I would get four five payments behind

1:26:03 this one guy used to call me day and

1:26:06 night I don't think they're allowed to

1:26:08 do that anymore harassed me threatened

1:26:11 to run me in front of the judge

1:26:12 threatened to ruin my credit threatened

1:26:14 to embarrass my family one day he said

1:26:17 we're going to come get your car drag it

1:26:19 rear end up down the street in front of

1:26:20 your

1:26:21 neighbors the guy even called me a

1:26:27 flake and back in those days I'm broke

1:26:30 I'm pitiful there's nothing I can do

1:26:32 about it but I never forgot how the guy

1:26:35 treated

1:26:37 me and when I met Mr shelf and I got my

1:26:41 life started straightened out and the

1:26:42 money started to flow that was one of my

1:26:44 first projects Budget Finance I poured

1:26:46 it on day and

1:26:49 night I finally put all the money

1:26:52 together I owed him which was

1:26:53 considerable I picked a day for the

1:26:55 payoff and when the payoff day came I

1:26:58 put the money in small bills in a big

1:27:04 briefcase and I walked into the Budget

1:27:07 Finance office on Wilshire Boulevard in

1:27:10 Los Angeles the guy who harassed me so

1:27:13 often his desk was about three back I

1:27:15 walked right up to his desk startled him

1:27:17 he wonder what I was doing there it was

1:27:20 the first time I'd been there since I'd

1:27:21 borrowed the money right without saying

1:27:24 in a word I opened up this briefcase

1:27:26 dumped this pile of money all over his

1:27:29 desk I said count it it's all there I

1:27:32 will never be back and I turned around

1:27:34 and stormed

1:27:37 out now that might not be Noble but if

1:27:41 you haven't tried it you got to one

1:27:45 [Applause]

1:27:49 time it can be the day that turns your

1:27:52 life around all you need is a reason

1:27:54 that turns you

1:27:56 on one of my dear friends Robert Dew

1:28:00 Bobby used to be a school teacher in

1:28:02 Lindy Olive capital of the world Bobby

1:28:06 taught school several years got a little

1:28:07 weary teaching school one day decided he

1:28:10 wanted to get into sales so without

1:28:12 telling anybody he just up and quit his

1:28:14 job teaching school and jumped into

1:28:16 sales when he did his brother made fun

1:28:21 of him laughed at him

1:28:25 put him down said Roberts lost his mind

1:28:29 had a good job teaching school now he

1:28:31 thinks he's a s he's going to go down

1:28:34 the drain lose everything just put him

1:28:36 down something fierce Bobby

1:28:38 said the way my brother acted when I got

1:28:41 into sales he said that made me so mad I

1:28:45 decided to get

1:28:50 rich and my question for you tonight is

1:28:54 is it possible to get that

1:28:59 mad of

1:29:04 course wealth is not a matter of

1:29:06 intelligence it's a matter of

1:29:12 inspiration today Robert happens to be

1:29:15 one of my millionaire friends bobb's

1:29:21 Rich Frank sopor said one time the best

1:29:24 revenge is massive

1:29:35 success hey get you a long enough list

1:29:37 of reasons so that after tonight you

1:29:38 never lack for inspiration you might not

1:29:41 have all the answers right away but you

1:29:42 can get the answers if you can get the

1:29:47 reasons now let me give you a little

1:29:49 simple formula for goal setting

1:29:52 okay we take two two and a half hours on

1:29:55 the weekend for the whole 10-e plan we

1:29:56 don't have time for that tonight but let

1:29:57 me get you started with a little simple

1:29:59 formula Mr scha gave me and maybe this

1:30:02 will be helpful first of all I've

1:30:04 divided goals into two parts first is

1:30:07 long

1:30:10 range long range goals that's your

1:30:15 dreams your dreams for the next three

1:30:17 five 10 20 30 40 years actually the rest

1:30:20 of your life your dreams you've got to

1:30:23 keep

1:30:26 dreaming Ronald Reagan president said to

1:30:29 the Joint session of Congress a few

1:30:31 weeks ago the Republic is a

1:30:34 dream and if we don't keep dreaming we

1:30:37 will lose the

1:30:40 Republic your better future is a dream

1:30:43 for yourself and for your family where

1:30:45 do you want to go what do you want to do

1:30:46 what do you want to be what do you want

1:30:48 to see you've got to dream dreams

1:30:51 there's a Bible phrase that says without

1:30:53 dreams and vision

1:30:54 people perish you've got to have

1:30:56 something to go for that inspires the

1:30:58 heart and the

1:31:01 Soul

1:31:04 dreams from The Children of Sanchez it

1:31:09 says take the crumbs from starving

1:31:12 soldiers they won't die take the bread

1:31:15 from Hungry children they won't cry but

1:31:18 without dreams we all will

1:31:22 die you've got to

1:31:24 dream don't lose your

1:31:28 dreams for yourself for your future for

1:31:32 your family the dreams of love and

1:31:34 Enterprise and travel and doing things

1:31:38 becoming something unique on your

1:31:40 journey here don't lose your dreams do

1:31:43 some dreaming that's long range goals

1:31:46 you got to have those so that's number

1:31:48 one here's the second part of goals

1:31:51 short range

1:31:55 short range goals that's your goals for

1:31:57 tomorrow this week this month this year

1:32:00 the immediate future we call these

1:32:02 confidence

1:32:03 Builders because if you set up something

1:32:05 short range go for it get it lat latch

1:32:07 on to it work hard accomplish it that

1:32:09 starts building your strong feelings to

1:32:11 go for your

1:32:14 dreams now I've divided goals into three

1:32:17 categories here they are number one is

1:32:21 economic that's your goals for money

1:32:23 income business profits

1:32:27 production economics make sure you've

1:32:30 got your economics well

1:32:32 planned economics plays a major role in

1:32:36 everybody's life economics is Major

1:32:39 which means it ought to be meticulously

1:32:41 well planned for tomorrow this week this

1:32:43 month this year long

1:32:46 range what if you ask somebody tomorrow

1:32:49 if you could see their meticulously well

1:32:50 planned list of economic goals

1:32:54 what would they probably

1:32:56 say they say you're some kind of a nut

1:32:59 you must be

1:33:02 weird hey I found out what success is

1:33:06 success is doing what the failures won't

1:33:11 do make sure you've got your economics

1:33:14 well planned it'll put you in the top

1:33:17 5% one of the key little subjects we

1:33:19 talk about on the weekend is the seven

1:33:21 fundamentals for wealth and happiness

1:33:24 and that's one of them well planned

1:33:26 economics it's a fundamental if you want

1:33:28 to do well join the top 5% anybody in

1:33:31 this room can join the top 5% if you

1:33:36 will okay now here's the second category

1:33:40 of goals things make a list of the

1:33:43 things you

1:33:45 want and on my list of things now I put

1:33:47 everything little things as well as

1:33:49 major things doesn't matter how small it

1:33:50 is it goes on my list I used to just put

1:33:53 major things cars homes I don't do that

1:33:55 anymore I now load my list with

1:33:57 everything

1:34:00 everything and the reason is part of the

1:34:02 fun of having a list is checking it

1:34:05 off that's it boy at the end of the day

1:34:09 if you can go got it got it got it got

1:34:11 it got it got it Whatever It Is Right

1:34:13 you get into the Habit so load up your

1:34:16 list the things you want now when you

1:34:18 check off something

1:34:21 major celebrate that's an important

1:34:24 point to make celebrate your

1:34:31 achievements Live It Up have a

1:34:34 party when you reach something you've

1:34:36 worked for for a while see we all grow

1:34:40 from two experiences one is called the

1:34:42 pain of losing the other one is called

1:34:45 the joy of

1:34:46 winning we need both of them amplify

1:34:49 them as much as you can which also means

1:34:52 make losing pain

1:34:54 if you set up something fooled around

1:34:56 didn't get it put it on

1:34:58 yourself on the other side if you did

1:35:00 get it congratulate yourself self-

1:35:03 congratulations is a sign of

1:35:06 maturity seeking congratulations is a

1:35:09 sign of

1:35:10 immaturity but hey winning and losing

1:35:12 see that's what it's all about that's

1:35:14 the name of the

1:35:16 game now some people lead such mediocre

1:35:18 lives at the end of the day they don't

1:35:20 know whether they're winning or losing

1:35:23 they got no clue guy's just going

1:35:25 through the day with his fingers

1:35:28 crossed there's a better

1:35:31 way okay here's the third category of

1:35:34 goals personal

1:35:37 development put those goals together

1:35:39 personal development goals that's your

1:35:40 goal is to be stronger more decisive be

1:35:43 a speaker be a

1:35:44 leader learn a language all kinds of

1:35:47 skills okay the whole weekend seminar

1:35:50 was designed to improve all your skills

1:35:52 so that you walk away more skillful and

1:35:55 that's what you want the personal

1:35:56 development skills that's what attracts

1:35:58 that's what brings good things to your

1:35:59 life the person you become more

1:36:03 skillful now this is quite a package to

1:36:05 work on economics things personal

1:36:09 development for tomorrow this week this

1:36:12 month this year long

1:36:15 range okay that'll get you

1:36:18 started now here's the simple formula

1:36:20 for setting goals it goes like this a

1:36:24 work on your

1:36:26 goals that's step one work on

1:36:29 them and I put the word work there

1:36:31 deliberately setting goals is plain hard

1:36:35 work I don't want to kids you we haven't

1:36:37 come here tonight to kid each

1:36:40 other it's work I know it's work that's

1:36:43 why a lot of people just let it slide

1:36:45 it's

1:36:46 work many people work hard on their job

1:36:50 but they don't work hard on their future

1:36:54 they just let that

1:36:57 slide and the work involved is making

1:37:02 plans I know most people don't I

1:37:06 understand that but don't let that be

1:37:11 you guy says well yeah you work where I

1:37:13 work but the time you struggle home it's

1:37:16 late you got to eat a bite to supper

1:37:18 watch little TV get to bed you can't sit

1:37:20 up half the night plan plan plan and the

1:37:24 guys

1:37:28 behind good worker hard worker

1:37:32 sincere but you got to be better than

1:37:36 sincere working

1:37:39 hard you got to be better than a good

1:37:41 worker you got to be a good

1:37:45 planner somebody once wisely said the

1:37:47 people who fail to plan are planning to

1:37:50 [Music]

1:37:51 fail well said

1:37:54 so work on your goals here's step

1:37:57 two write your goals

1:38:00 down that's so important I teach my

1:38:03 staff around the world put your goals in

1:38:05 your

1:38:08 Journal because one of the major people

1:38:10 you want to study is

1:38:15 yourself so here's the list of goals I

1:38:17 put together 3 weeks ago here's the list

1:38:19 of goals I put together two years ago

1:38:22 here's some of the changes I made re

1:38:23 arrangement of my priorities I scratched

1:38:26 these off I put these on I've gotten

1:38:27 these study your accomplishments study

1:38:30 what your desires are put them on paper

1:38:33 write them down here's another reason

1:38:35 for writing your goals down it shows

1:38:37 you're serious about doing better and to

1:38:40 do better you got to get

1:38:43 serious you don't have to be Grim but

1:38:46 you must be

1:38:47 [Music]

1:38:50 serious everybody hopes things will get

1:38:55 better everybody

1:38:58 hopes poor people hope that ought to

1:39:01 tell you

1:39:03 something it means the future does not

1:39:06 get better by hope it gets better by

1:39:13 plan I used to have the Affliction

1:39:15 called passive hope it's an

1:39:21 Affliction it's bad

1:39:24 probably what's even worse than that is

1:39:25 Happy hope now that is really bad that's

1:39:30 bad Happy

1:39:33 hope the guy's 50 and he's broke and

1:39:36 he's still smiling see that's not

1:39:42 good so get serious about your goals put

1:39:45 them on paper write them down there's

1:39:48 all kinds his goals her goals their

1:39:51 goals business goals Financial goals

1:39:53 Financial Independence goals family

1:39:56 goals I mean there's so many things to

1:39:58 work on on this that if you don't get

1:40:00 busy and work on it sure enough the time

1:40:01 will pass and sure enough 5 years from

1:40:03 now you'll wind up where you don't want

1:40:05 to be wearing what you don't want to

1:40:06 wear driving what you don't want to

1:40:08 drive being what you don't want to

1:40:10 be Now's the Time to fix

1:40:13 it now here's the third step to your

1:40:16 goals check the size of your goals and

1:40:19 the kinds of

1:40:21 goals how big they they are what kind

1:40:24 they

1:40:26 are affects

1:40:30 you and here's one of the important

1:40:32 phrases of the evening your goals are

1:40:34 affecting you whatever they

1:40:37 are your goals affect your handshake

1:40:40 your goals affect your attitude

1:40:42 personality your goals affect the way

1:40:44 you walk the way you talk the way you

1:40:47 dress all day long we're being affected

1:40:51 by our goals

1:40:55 now some people have goals but they have

1:40:57 such lousy

1:40:59 goal the effect is

1:41:04 bad I asked a guy one time what are your

1:41:06 goals for this month the guy said look

1:41:08 if I could just scrape up enough money

1:41:09 to pay these lousy bills that was his

1:41:13 goal I'm not saying it isn't a goal it's

1:41:16 a goal but it's such a lousy go the

1:41:18 effect is

1:41:21 bad you don't jump out of beted on

1:41:23 Monday morning and say oh boy another

1:41:24 chance to go out and scrape up the money

1:41:26 to pay my lousy bills so you don't do

1:41:28 that usually you say oh not another

1:41:37 mondy and some people have so given up

1:41:39 on

1:41:40 life they have joined the Thank God It's

1:41:46 Friday

1:41:48 Club how

1:41:50 sad surely those are the same people

1:41:53 when when life is over for them will say

1:41:55 thank God it's over let me give you a

1:41:59 Bible philosophy that teaches how to get

1:42:01 whatever you want that's the title of

1:42:03 the next set of notes how to get

1:42:05 whatever you

1:42:07 want from the

1:42:11 Bible now again I'm an amateur when it

1:42:15 comes to the Bible I'm not a pro but

1:42:16 this I can quote and I think that'll be

1:42:21 sufficient how to get whatever want

1:42:23 here's what it says if you're ready it

1:42:26 says

1:42:32 ask that's

1:42:34 it end of

1:42:38 notes

1:42:40 ask if there's one art in life to learn

1:42:43 extremely well that's got to be one of

1:42:45 them the art of

1:42:49 asking what does ask mean ask means what

1:42:53 do you

1:42:56 want and the formula is staggering it

1:42:59 says ask and

1:43:02 what a guy ought to look into

1:43:11 that he says yeah but you work where I

1:43:13 work by the time you struggle

1:43:16 home it's

1:43:18 late you got the toite a supper watch

1:43:21 little T TV get to bed you can't sit up

1:43:24 half the night ask ask ask and the guys

1:43:28 be

1:43:29 [Music]

1:43:31 H see you've got to be better than a

1:43:33 good worker you've got to be a good

1:43:35 asker now let me give you three key

1:43:37 points on asking and receiving this can

1:43:40 do it number

1:43:42 one asking is the beginning of

1:43:47 receiving asking starts a unique process

1:43:50 mental and emotional I don't even know

1:43:52 how it works all I know is it works it's

1:43:55 like pushing a button and all this

1:43:57 Machinery starts working I don't know

1:44:00 how it just works there's a lot of

1:44:02 things you don't need to know how just

1:44:05 work

1:44:07 them some people are always studying The

1:44:09 Roots others are picking the fruit I

1:44:12 mean it depends on what end of it you

1:44:13 want in

1:44:18 on asking is the beginning of receiving

1:44:20 so start the process here's number two

1:44:23 receiving is not the

1:44:27 problem receiving is

1:44:31 automatic now if that's true receiving

1:44:33 is not the problem what's the

1:44:35 problem failure to ask might be one of

1:44:38 your major problems I don't know check

1:44:41 it

1:44:42 out the guy says oh now I see it I got

1:44:46 up last year and hit it every day but

1:44:48 there's not a scrap of paper with my

1:44:50 goals on it

1:44:53 good

1:44:55 worker poor asker so you got to change

1:44:58 that here's number

1:45:01 three receiving is like the ocean

1:45:04 there's

1:45:06 plenty especially in

1:45:12 Califoria it's like an ocean

1:45:19 here success is not in short

1:45:23 Supply it isn't rationed and you stepped

1:45:26 up to the window and it was all gone no

1:45:28 no no it's like an ocean

1:45:34 here now if that's true what's the

1:45:36 problem well some people go to the ocean

1:45:38 with a

1:45:41 teaspoon have you got the

1:45:45 picture see what you want to do in view

1:45:48 of the size of the ocean is trade your

1:45:50 teaspoon for at least a bucket

1:45:53 and you'll look better down at the

1:45:56 ocean kids won't make fun of you

1:46:02 right okay now there's two ways to ask

1:46:05 and we'll wrap up goal setting two

1:46:08 ways here's number one ask with

1:46:13 intelligence it didn't say ask

1:46:15 intelligently but I'm sure it meant that

1:46:18 don't Mumble you don't get anything by

1:46:21 mumbling be clear C be specific

1:46:24 intelligent asking means how wide how

1:46:26 high how soon when what size what color

1:46:29 how

1:46:31 much Define what you want and describe

1:46:34 what you want that's powerful in the

1:46:38 weekend seminar we teach goals become

1:46:40 like a magnet they pull you that

1:46:42 direction and the better you describe

1:46:44 them the more they

1:46:48 pull so ask intelligently here's number

1:46:51 two ask with

1:46:55 faith that's the childish part of the

1:46:57 equation believe you can get what you

1:47:00 want like a

1:47:05 child not an adult adults are too

1:47:11 skeptical so the formula really reads

1:47:14 make plans like an adult and believe in

1:47:17 him like a

1:47:19 child and the most incredible things

1:47:21 will happen

1:47:23 just try it for 90 days just try it you

1:47:27 can always go back to the old ways just

1:47:29 try it just 90 days 90

1:47:34 days now here's the last qualifying

1:47:37 phrase on goal setting as we promised to

1:47:38 qualify everything and it simply goes

1:47:41 like this remember you won't get

1:47:44 everything you

1:47:48 want and we've already studied the

1:47:50 reason for that simply sometimes it haes

1:47:53 on your crop and rains on your parade

1:47:56 it's that kind of planet so you won't

1:47:58 get everything you want but if you will

1:48:00 work this goal setting formula you can

1:48:03 get plenty for wealth and

1:48:07 happiness okay that's goal setting we

1:48:09 use it around the

1:48:11 world we recommend

1:48:14 it now maybe it won't work as well for

1:48:17 you as it has for me I don't know maybe

1:48:20 not but what if it did

1:48:25 you got to

1:48:27 try the diseases of

1:48:34 attitude it's never that Pleasant to

1:48:36 talk about the negative but we got to

1:48:38 talk about it because life is part

1:48:39 negative these attitude diseases are

1:48:42 like weeds that grow in the garden it's

1:48:44 a normal part of life here's a good

1:48:47 phrase to note negative is normal it's

1:48:50 not successful but it's normal it's part

1:48:52 of

1:48:55 life and here's the next key in my

1:48:58 opinion you must learn to handle the

1:49:00 negative don't ignore it handle

1:49:05 it now I know some people teach the

1:49:07 other

1:49:09 way and listen to them and listen to me

1:49:13 and then make up your own mind right

1:49:15 don't be a

1:49:16 follower be a

1:49:19 student but I say you got to handle the

1:49:22 negative

1:49:24 you don't have to live in it you don't

1:49:27 have to dwell on it but you do have to

1:49:29 handle it my

1:49:32 opinion I know some people teach just

1:49:34 turn your head real quick and say

1:49:35 there's no weeds there's no weeds

1:49:36 there's no weeds they'll take your

1:49:42 guard so you've got to handle the

1:49:46 negative here's what part of it is it's

1:49:48 called the Great war between good and

1:49:50 evil Mr Reynolds and I working on a new

1:49:53 book this year called the Great war

1:49:54 between good and

1:49:56 evil and there is a war on the minute

1:49:58 you were born you got involved in the

1:50:00 war between good and evil between

1:50:02 Darkness and Light between negative and

1:50:04 positive between evil and good between

1:50:08 tyranny and democracy between weeds and

1:50:10 human activity I mean the war is

1:50:16 on if democracy sleeps guess who never

1:50:19 sleeps tyranny

1:50:23 in the absence of light guess what's

1:50:24 automatic

1:50:27 Darkness if good does not arouse itself

1:50:30 and become active guess what moves in

1:50:34 evil it's a war a mental War a physical

1:50:39 War a financial war between Enterprise

1:50:42 and ease between accomplishment and

1:50:44 failure it's a

1:50:47 war that's why there's an Old Testament

1:50:50 phrase that gives the best advice for

1:50:52 human activ when it says six days labor

1:50:56 one day

1:51:00 rest now I'm sure we've taken that to

1:51:02 mean don't work all seven days take one

1:51:05 off here's what it also means only take

1:51:08 one

1:51:13 off or you're liable to lose the

1:51:18 war now we've got it down to 5 and two

1:51:22 and maybe that's not too dangerous I

1:51:24 don't

1:51:25 know if God would have thought a 5- two

1:51:28 he might have made it 5- two I don't

1:51:29 know you can't think of

1:51:31 everything but here's what it does mean

1:51:34 Enterprise is better than ease if you

1:51:36 rest too long the jungle overtakes the

1:51:40 village now here's the good news about

1:51:42 the war between good and evil evil is no

1:51:44 match for good but good must be

1:51:48 active weeds are no match for human

1:51:50 activity but if you stand still how far

1:51:53 in will they

1:51:55 come all the way they'll grow right up

1:51:58 around your

1:52:02 shoes but if you get busy how far back

1:52:04 can you take

1:52:05 them as far as you

1:52:08 wish they're no match but you must be

1:52:11 active that's why the six and one make

1:52:14 sure you're not losing the war by taking

1:52:16 off too

1:52:18 much guess what the average years are

1:52:20 after retirement

1:52:26 six

1:52:28 six which means don't

1:52:34 retire your chances are too

1:52:40 slim okay the war between good and evil

1:52:44 the

1:52:45 weeds you got to make sure you recognize

1:52:48 the negative handle it deal with it and

1:52:51 then go on let's make a list of the

1:52:53 diseases of attitude that can wreck all

1:52:55 your chances to do

1:52:57 well one of the words that destroys

1:52:59 everything is called

1:53:01 neglect

1:53:04 neglect and I found this out a week of

1:53:07 neglect could cost you a year of repair

1:53:09 it isn't worth

1:53:11 it so what to be on the lookout for

1:53:14 here's the list if you were making it

1:53:15 you'd have the same list I've

1:53:17 got right we're not covering anything

1:53:20 new tonight this is a reminding session

1:53:22 not a teaching session but it doesn't

1:53:24 hurt to go over it again here's the list

1:53:27 attitude diseases number one is

1:53:30 indifference the shrug of the shoulder

1:53:32 the guy's not even concerned he's just

1:53:36 drifting this is called the mild

1:53:38 approach to

1:53:41 life a disease known as

1:53:48 mildness the guy says well I can't see

1:53:50 getting all that worked up

1:53:54 well to be any kind of winner you got to

1:53:57 get worked up there's one problem with

1:54:00 drift you cannot drift to the top of the

1:54:05 mountain and the good Lord said in the

1:54:07 closing chapters of the Bible here's the

1:54:09 best way to live one way or the other

1:54:11 that's best hot or what's next best cold

1:54:14 is next best to

1:54:16 hot not the Half Baked middle lukewarm

1:54:19 not too hot not too cold what a sad way

1:54:21 to live

1:54:23 I think what it means is pick a

1:54:24 direction and go with everything you got

1:54:27 just pick one and

1:54:29 go somebody says yeah but what if it's

1:54:31 the wrong direction you'll find out

1:54:36 quicker it won't take you 25 years to

1:54:38 wake up and say oh no I've been walking

1:54:40 the wrong

1:54:42 road I told my staff the other day next

1:54:44 best to Prosperity is

1:54:48 adversity if one doesn't get you pray

1:54:50 for the other

1:54:53 we all do better from one of two reasons

1:54:55 inspiration or

1:55:00 desperation and I don't wish anything

1:55:02 bad on you tonight but if you're not

1:55:03 inspired I hope a wagon comes down your

1:55:10 rut whatever it takes to get you to try

1:55:13 harder read more set your goals and go

1:55:15 for

1:55:19 it somebody asked me one time what

1:55:21 quality would I pick if I wanted to work

1:55:23 with somebody and you know what I picked

1:55:25 first number one strong

1:55:28 feeling please number one give me

1:55:31 somebody that feels strong about most

1:55:34 anything I don't even care just so they

1:55:36 believe

1:55:38 it even if they disagree with me

1:55:41 wonderful just so they disagree

1:55:47 vigorously I'm not saying it's easy to

1:55:49 win those kind of people to your point

1:55:50 of view but I'd rather do that than to

1:55:52 try to resurrect people from the dead

1:55:54 pump them up every month pump them up

1:55:56 Pump them

1:55:58 up I

1:56:04 pass the good Lord needs a leader for

1:56:06 the early Christians remember the early

1:56:07 days of the Christians not like today if

1:56:10 you were to stand up in the early days

1:56:11 and say I'm a Christian cut off your

1:56:14 head toss you and your wife in jail let

1:56:16 you rot I mean those were ugly

1:56:19 days being a Christian back then was not

1:56:21 called social

1:56:24 acceptable they didn't have

1:56:27 125,000 in the Los Angeles Coliseum to

1:56:30 hear Billy Graham on a Sunday afternoon

1:56:33 not back in those days back in those

1:56:35 days when the Christians got in the

1:56:36 Coliseum it was a different story right

1:56:39 I mean the word was stay out of the

1:56:41 Coliseum especially on

1:56:44 Sunday last Sunday was Lions 33

1:56:46 Christians

1:56:49 nothing see those were mean tough

1:56:51 struggles days for the Christians now

1:56:53 when the days are mean and tough and

1:56:54 struggling you got to have some kind of

1:56:56 leader do you know who the good Lord

1:56:58 picked for the leader when the days were

1:57:00 mean and

1:57:01 ugly

1:57:04 Saul from

1:57:07 Tarsus that's who he picked

1:57:10 Saul I'll tell you what I would have

1:57:13 picked him you would have picked him

1:57:15 anybody would have picked Saul Saul was

1:57:18 one of those incredible guys once he got

1:57:20 into something look out

1:57:22 everybody in the community knew what

1:57:25 Saul was in because whatever he joined

1:57:27 he flip all the switches open up all the

1:57:28 dials turn on all the Fosters and go

1:57:30 like Med he was known as all out Saul I

1:57:32 mean he was something else now at first

1:57:36 it wasn't working out well Saul hated

1:57:39 Christians which makes a poor leader

1:57:41 right I mean that won't

1:57:44 work Saul got this bug somewhere about

1:57:47 the Christians he got to hating

1:57:48 Christians and he hated them so bad

1:57:51 every time somebody would say Christian

1:57:52 he'd fly into a

1:57:55 rage and I guess he decided one life or

1:57:58 one day it was his mission in life to

1:58:00 get rid of all the Christians he was

1:58:02 Saul anyhow could do most anything he

1:58:04 wanted

1:58:05 to so he got him these letters of

1:58:07 authority to go around to the various

1:58:09 communities and hunt down the Christians

1:58:11 they said do whatever you want to with

1:58:12 them Saul they're unpopular anyhow drag

1:58:14 them in the streets whip them Stone them

1:58:16 torture him kill him you mention the

1:58:18 name Saul from Tarsus to the early

1:58:20 Christians I'll tell you what they would

1:58:21 do they would run hide lock the doors

1:58:24 leave town dive underground I've been in

1:58:27 the catacombs of Rome where they hid he

1:58:30 was mean I mean terribly

1:58:32 mean but remember the story one day

1:58:35 Saul's making it for Damascus heard

1:58:37 about some new Christians flies into a

1:58:38 rage takes off for Damascus and the

1:58:40 story said he was angry there's a little

1:58:42 sentence in the story that says on his

1:58:44 way to Damascus he was breathing out

1:58:46 threatenings and Slaughter which meant

1:58:49 he felt rather strong about the idea

1:58:51 right that's strong that's

1:58:55 strong but on this journey right

1:58:57 according to the story as Saul was

1:58:59 making his way to Damascus the good Lord

1:59:01 looks down out of heaven and says

1:59:03 there's my man Saul he's got to be

1:59:07 something

1:59:08 else and according to the story this

1:59:10 great light shines Out of Heaven knocks

1:59:12 him flat right off his horse grinds his

1:59:16 face in the dirt and blinds him for 3

1:59:19 Days the good Lord using recruiting

1:59:21 tools we can't use

1:59:25 but when you're Lord

1:59:29 right to make a long story short Saul

1:59:32 from Tarsus becomes converted to

1:59:35 Christianity he becomes

1:59:37 Paul the great leader the

1:59:41 Apostle and without a doubt the good

1:59:43 Lord got him a

1:59:46 Dandy one he didn't have to pump up

1:59:49 every month

1:59:53 in one of his later writings he said

1:59:55 thee things I once hated I now loved the

1:59:57 things I once loved I now

2:00:01 hate see that's strong here's the key to

2:00:05 the good life learn to put everything

2:00:07 you've got into everything you

2:00:11 do whatever you are doing pour it on it

2:00:16 will quickly open up into opportunity or

2:00:18 quickly disclose to you that you ought

2:00:19 to be doing something else

2:00:22 the delusion is if I had a better job

2:00:24 I'd really pour it

2:00:26 on see that's

2:00:29 delusion wherever you are pour it on

2:00:32 don't give somebody half a job for a

2:00:35 day's

2:00:37 pay pour it on see that'll help change

2:00:39 your life get rid of this disease here's

2:00:42 the next attitude disease

2:00:45 indecision mental paralysis the guy

2:00:48 can't make up his mind and it becomes a

2:00:50 disease pretty soon he knows he's got it

2:00:53 the guy says well I know I'm on the

2:00:55 fence but he says what if I get off on

2:00:57 the wrong side listen after a while it

2:00:59 doesn't matter just get

2:01:02 off any side will

2:01:04 do a life full of Adventure is a life

2:01:07 full of many

2:01:08 decisions the ones that turn out to be

2:01:10 wrong give you better experience to make

2:01:12 better decisions so don't see how many

2:01:14 decisions you can get out of see how

2:01:16 many you can get into that's where the

2:01:18 adventure is so shake off this disease

2:01:20 indecision

2:01:22 the next one is

2:01:25 doubt Doubt's like a plague and one of

2:01:29 the worst is Self Doubt there are many

2:01:31 but that's one of the worst the guy

2:01:33 doubts himself doubts if it'll last that

2:01:36 long for him doubts if he can do that

2:01:37 well doubts if he can make that much

2:01:39 doubts if he can accomplish all that a

2:01:41 chronic excellent

2:01:43 self-doubt you can imagine what damage

2:01:45 that does to your future so here's the

2:01:48 key turn this coin over and become a

2:01:51 believer

2:01:53 and there's many things to believe in

2:01:55 one of the majors is

2:01:58 yourself the understanding of selfworth

2:02:00 is the beginning of

2:02:04 progress now if those three don't get

2:02:06 you this one will

2:02:10 worry that's a devastating disease worry

2:02:13 worry causes health problems social

2:02:16 problems personal problems family

2:02:18 problems it's

2:02:20 devastating where long enough it'll drop

2:02:22 you to your

2:02:24 knees could reduce you to

2:02:27 begging I know how bad this one is I

2:02:29 used to have it

2:02:31 bad I used to be known as a super

2:02:35 Warrior not a super Warrior no super

2:02:38 Warrior my family wished I'd have been a

2:02:43 warrior I got those years to make up

2:02:46 for but I tell you what my advice to you

2:02:50 is do what I finally did on

2:02:52 worry give it

2:02:54 up who needs it I'm not saying it's easy

2:02:59 I'm saying it's worth

2:03:01 it it took me almost one year to kick

2:03:03 the worry habit and it was not an easy

2:03:05 year it was one of the toughest years I

2:03:06 ever spent but I finally got that monkey

2:03:10 off my back and I discovered you could

2:03:13 live the most incredible Life free of

2:03:15 worry not free of challenge not free of

2:03:18 difficulty free of worry I learned how

2:03:20 to do it and you can

2:03:23 here's the next attitude

2:03:25 disease over

2:03:29 caution some people never will have much

2:03:32 they're too

2:03:36 cautious now you can also be too

2:03:38 Reckless but you can also be too

2:03:41 cautious this is called the timid

2:03:44 approach to

2:03:49 life and my caution was always the risk

2:03:51 risk used to drive me right up the

2:03:53 wall I used to say what if this

2:03:58 happens it's called the language of the

2:04:01 poor what if this happens and on top of

2:04:04 that if this was to happen look at the

2:04:06 fix i' be in I better not

2:04:09 try I could always Ace myself

2:04:12 out then I'll tell you what changed my

2:04:14 whole life when I finally discovered

2:04:17 it's all

2:04:20 risky the minute you you were born it

2:04:22 got

2:04:23 risky if you think trying is risky wait

2:04:25 till they hand you the bill for not

2:04:29 trying if you think investing is risky

2:04:31 wait till you get the tab for not

2:04:32 investing see it's all risky getting

2:04:35 married is risky having children is

2:04:36 risky going into business is risky

2:04:38 investing your money is risky it's all

2:04:42 risky I'll tell you how risky life is

2:04:44 you're not going to get out

2:04:47 alive that's risky

2:04:52 the Englishman says well if that's the

2:04:53 way it's going to work out let's give it

2:04:54 a go right that's what it's for give it

2:04:57 a

2:04:59 go somebody says yeah but I'm looking

2:05:02 for Safety and Security fine then huddle

2:05:04 in a

2:05:05 corner we'll cover you with a sheet

2:05:07 bring you three meals a day and we'll

2:05:10 protect you feed you look after you care

2:05:13 for you we won't let anything happen to

2:05:15 you and you'll probably live to be

2:05:18 100 the guy said well yeah I'd live to

2:05:20 be 100 but what a way to live right what

2:05:24 a way to live safe and secure don't ask

2:05:27 for security ask for

2:05:32 adventure better to live 30 years full

2:05:34 of Adventure than 100 years safe in the

2:05:40 corner and see it's not important how

2:05:43 long you live what's important is how

2:05:45 you

2:05:49 live here's the next attitude disease

2:05:52 we're almost through with this mly list

2:05:53 in fact we're almost through hang

2:05:56 on the next one is

2:06:03 pessimism pessimism the deadly disease

2:06:05 of always looking on the bad side the

2:06:07 problem side the difficult side checking

2:06:09 all the reasons why it can't be done the

2:06:12 poor pessimist leads an ugly

2:06:16 life he doesn't try to figure out what's

2:06:18 right he tries to figure out what's

2:06:20 wrong he doesn't look for virtue he

2:06:22 looks for faults and when he finds them

2:06:25 he's delighted how

2:06:28 ugly this is the poor guy looks through

2:06:30 the window doesn't see the sunset he

2:06:32 sees the specks on the

2:06:38 window and this is the poor guy right

2:06:40 who rushes up takes such leave of his

2:06:42 senses this guy rushes up and he says

2:06:44 I've got five good reasons why it won't

2:06:46 work he's so dumb he doesn't know all

2:06:48 you needs one he's got five

2:06:57 to the pessimist the glass is always

2:07:00 half

2:07:02 empty to The Optimist the glass is half

2:07:06 full why would the same measure affect

2:07:09 people two different ways answer it all

2:07:11 depends on how you look at it our lives

2:07:14 are mostly affected by the way we think

2:07:17 things

2:07:18 are not the way they are the the way we

2:07:22 think they are affects us

2:07:27 most there's a subject we don't have

2:07:28 time to get into tonight called better

2:07:30 thinking

2:07:32 habits one of the major things show

2:07:35 taught me when I met him he said poor

2:07:37 thinking habits keeps most people poor

2:07:42 not poor working habits most people work

2:07:44 hard but they don't think

2:07:46 hard and Cha taught me that the mind is

2:07:48 like a factory a mental Factory and

2:07:51 whatever you think about all day long

2:07:53 pours ingredients into this mental

2:07:55 Factory and that's what builds the

2:07:57 economic

2:07:59 social Financial fabric of your

2:08:04 life he quoted me a Bible phrase that

2:08:07 says as you think so you

2:08:11 become how

2:08:15 awesome when he talked about poor

2:08:17 thinking habits he had me I used to

2:08:20 start the day reading the morning

2:08:22 newspaper I mean you can believe that or

2:08:24 not I'd get a cup of coffee and read the

2:08:26 paper I'd load up on Wars and riots and

2:08:28 murders and stabbings and killings and

2:08:30 bank robberies and muggings and car

2:08:31 wrecks and tragedies I'd even read the

2:08:33 back pages I seem to like that stuff for

2:08:35 some weird reason I'd load up on all

2:08:37 that and then I'd start the day you can

2:08:38 imagine the kind of days I used to have

2:08:42 you walk around on your financial

2:08:44 knees they call you economic peeeee

2:08:55 the guy says I want to be a great leader

2:08:59 wonderful the first thing we do is

2:09:01 follow him to his house when we get

2:09:03 there we walk in and check his

2:09:07 library number

2:09:10 one somebody says well why check his

2:09:13 Library the reason is because what a man

2:09:17 reads pours massive ingredients into his

2:09:21 mental Factory and the fabric of his

2:09:23 life is built from those

2:09:28 ingredients you would not believe what

2:09:30 some people have got in their house to

2:09:34 read you would not believe one of the

2:09:36 best dressed up words I know for a lot

2:09:38 of it is

2:09:39 trash can you imagine dumping a barrel

2:09:41 of trash into this mental Factory every

2:09:44 day and coming out with a rich Dynamic

2:09:46 positive life it can't be

2:09:49 done you might as well try making a cake

2:09:52 with

2:09:56 cement the kids back in Danbury

2:09:59 Connecticut High School they're asking

2:10:02 me questions one day I'm talking to the

2:10:03 kids kids got good questions these days

2:10:06 one of them said to me Mr R how do you

2:10:08 build the good

2:10:09 life I said it's simple it's not easy

2:10:16 but it's simple here's how you build

2:10:19 anything select the right ingredients

2:10:21 keep out the wrong ingredients and it

2:10:24 starts with

2:10:27 thought everything starts with thought

2:10:30 so you must be wise and careful what you

2:10:34 think about because that starts

2:10:39 everything you got to be wise and

2:10:43 careful I asked the

2:10:45 kids what would happen if somebody

2:10:47 dropped sugar in my coffee they said

2:10:50 well you'd be okay

2:10:52 I said what if somebody dropped strick

2:10:54 nine in my

2:10:55 coffee they said well you'd be dead I

2:10:59 said correct lesson one life is both

2:11:02 sugar and strict

2:11:05 nine you got to be

2:11:10 careful I said what if my worst enemy

2:11:12 drops in the sugar they said will you be

2:11:15 okay I said what if my best friend even

2:11:18 by accident drops in the strick nine

2:11:20 they said well you'd be dead I said

2:11:22 correct lesson two watch your

2:11:30 coffee you got to be careful see it

2:11:32 doesn't matter who hands you the bad

2:11:34 stuff it doesn't matter where you get

2:11:36 the bad stuff it'll still do its damage

2:11:38 on your bank account wherever you get

2:11:42 it Mr scha gave me one of the greatest

2:11:45 phrases when I first met him when he

2:11:46 said Jim every day stand guard at the

2:11:50 door of of your

2:11:56 mind how

2:11:58 important stand guard at the door of

2:12:03 your

2:12:06 mind and you decide what goes into your

2:12:08 mental Factory don't let anybody just

2:12:10 dump anything they want to in your

2:12:12 mental Factory because you've got to

2:12:13 live with the

2:12:18 results okay here's the last disease and

2:12:20 we're through with this list in fact

2:12:21 we're almost through hang

2:12:24 on the last subject is very

2:12:27 brief the last disease but this one is

2:12:30 deadly engage in this one indulge in it

2:12:33 even slightly and you might as well

2:12:34 forget the future because it's going to

2:12:35 forget you

2:12:39 complaining crying whining griping a

2:12:44 Bible word called murmuring see that'll

2:12:47 Ace your

2:12:49 future spend 5 minutes complaining and

2:12:51 you have wasted five and you may have

2:12:54 begun what's known as economic cancer of

2:12:56 the

2:12:57 bone surely they will soon haul you off

2:13:00 into a financial desert and there let

2:13:02 you choke on the dust of your own

2:13:05 regret I hope I said that well so you

2:13:08 won't forget it's a deadly

2:13:11 disease if you don't think it's bad ask

2:13:14 the children of Israel of Old Testament

2:13:16 Fame typical of us all their story just

2:13:19 happened to get in the book

2:13:21 story says children of Israel were

2:13:24 slaves God performed a series of

2:13:27 dazzling Miracles and got them out and

2:13:30 now they're heading for the promised

2:13:31 land remember the story heading for the

2:13:34 promised land tragedy of the story they

2:13:37 never got

2:13:39 there

2:13:41 reason from day one they started to

2:13:46 complain they griped about the water

2:13:50 they griped about about the weather they

2:13:53 whined and cried and griped about the

2:13:55 food they griped about the leadership

2:13:57 they whined and cried because it was too

2:13:59 far too cold too hot too difficult too

2:14:03 miserable I mean they whed and whined

2:14:06 and cried for years finally God said

2:14:09 I've had it trip

2:14:13 canel or something like

2:14:17 that the story says they died in the

2:14:21 desert never got to the promised

2:14:26 land which I think means two things

2:14:28 indulge in this long enough you get your

2:14:30 future K and I guess it also means even

2:14:34 God himself can only take so

2:14:41 much

2:14:45 okay just be on the lookout of the

2:14:47 things that can destroy all the good you

2:14:48 start the war is on

2:14:51 and this evening tomorrow mentally

2:14:53 personally socially economically you got

2:14:56 to make sure you're winning the war and

2:14:58 this is part of

2:15:01 it

2:15:03 okay here's the last subject the day

2:15:06 that turns your life

2:15:09 around let me just quickly give you a

2:15:11 list of four emotions that can change

2:15:13 your life in one

2:15:15 day emotions are

2:15:18 powerful sometimes it doesn't take much

2:15:20 to alter your whole life

2:15:27 Direction okay here they are number one

2:15:33 disgust powerful emotion disgust says I

2:15:39 have had

2:15:42 it see that could be the day the day you

2:15:45 can say I've had

2:15:47 it and whether you've had it with

2:15:49 something small or something major

2:15:51 the day you can say I've had it may not

2:15:54 be the day it ends but the day it

2:15:57 begins that's what I said when that

2:15:59 little girl scout left my door when I'm

2:16:01 25 I give her the big lie she leaves I

2:16:05 say I don't want to live like this

2:16:11 anymore I've had it with lying and being

2:16:16 broke powerful

2:16:19 day the man's finally had it with

2:16:24 mediocrity he's had it with being a

2:16:27 loser he's finally had it with those

2:16:30 awful sick feelings inside knowing his

2:16:32 wife is at the grocery store looking at

2:16:34 two cans of beans one Mark 37 cents one

2:16:37 Mark 39 cents and the guy sick inside

2:16:39 knows his wife's going to buy the 37

2:16:41 Cent can and she doesn't even like the

2:16:44 brand do you know why she's going to buy

2:16:46 the 37 Cent

2:16:48 can to save

2:16:51 to

2:16:53 sin the guick inside finally says I've

2:16:57 had it being on my knees in the dust

2:17:00 looking for pennies we're not living

2:17:02 like this

2:17:04 any

2:17:09 more could be the day that turns your

2:17:11 life around the day you can say I've had

2:17:18 it he walks into his closet and rips

2:17:21 everything in it to shreds and says I've

2:17:25 worn this embarrassing stuff for the

2:17:28 last

2:17:29 time and not only will I never wear it

2:17:32 again no one

2:17:34 else will ever wear it

2:17:37 again commit an act that

2:17:40 says

2:17:42 I've had

2:17:44 it powerful here's the next one

2:17:49 decision and decision- making is

2:17:52 powerful and it's emotional that's those

2:17:55 knots in the pity of your stomach right

2:17:57 waking up in the middle of the night in

2:17:58 a cold sweat trying to

2:18:02 decide we sometimes call it inner Civil

2:18:07 War what shall I

2:18:10 do well for Progress you must

2:18:15 decide the best advice I can give you

2:18:17 came from a wealthy friend of mine who

2:18:19 said if if it's easy do it easy if it's

2:18:23 hard do it hard just get it

2:18:29 done if you went home tonight and in the

2:18:32 next few days cleaned up a whole list of

2:18:34 decisions that might furnish enough

2:18:36 inspiration for the next 10

2:18:39 years I found this out many times after

2:18:42 you've decided getting on with it is

2:18:44 easier than deciding sometimes decision

2:18:46 is the toughest

2:18:48 part here's the next emotion desire

2:18:51 wanting to bad

2:18:54 enough and I don't know how to tell you

2:18:57 to want to that's something you've got

2:18:58 to come up

2:18:59 with there's two things I know about

2:19:01 desire number one it comes from inside

2:19:04 not outside you don't send off for

2:19:09 it number two I know desire can be

2:19:14 triggered by something who knows what it

2:19:17 might be sometimes desire Waits and

2:19:20 sleeps for something to

2:19:22 happen maybe it's a book maybe it's a

2:19:25 song maybe it's a sermon maybe it's a

2:19:28 lecture a seminar maybe it's the

2:19:30 conversation of a friend a happening an

2:19:34 event who knows the best I can advice I

2:19:38 can give you is what I give my staff it

2:19:40 goes like this welcome every Human

2:19:44 Experience you never know which one is

2:19:47 going to turn it all on

2:19:50 even the bad

2:19:52 experiences sometimes from The bitterest

2:19:55 Experience comes the greatest

2:19:57 Awakening so let down the barriers take

2:20:00 down the Walls the same wall that keeps

2:20:02 out disappointment keeps out

2:20:07 happiness let Life Touch you don't let

2:20:09 it kill you but let it touch

2:20:13 you here's the last one this one's

2:20:16 powerful

2:20:19 resolve resolve says I will two of the

2:20:22 most powerful words in the language I

2:20:26 will Benjamin Disraeli once said nothing

2:20:29 can resist a human

2:20:31 will that will stake even its existence

2:20:34 on the extent of its

2:20:36 purpose shortly put I'll do it or

2:20:40 die see that's powerful that could be

2:20:43 the day that turns your life around the

2:20:45 world has a strange way of stepping

2:20:47 aside when somebody says I'll do it or

2:20:49 die

2:20:52 the man says I will climb the mountain

2:20:56 they've told me it's too high it's too

2:20:57 far it's too Rocky it's too difficult

2:20:59 it's never been done before but it's my

2:21:01 Mountain I will climb it pretty soon

2:21:03 you'll see me waving from the top or

2:21:06 dead on the side cuz I ain't coming

2:21:15 back the best definition I ever got from

2:21:18 the word resolv came from a little

2:21:19 Junior High girl in Foster City

2:21:21 California up North I'm talking to the

2:21:24 Junior High kids one day I love to ask

2:21:27 kids definitions they come up with

2:21:30 Beauties I got to the word resolve and I

2:21:32 asked who can tell me what resolve means

2:21:36 and I got several hands and they were

2:21:38 all pretty good but the last one was the

2:21:41 best little girl about three rolls back

2:21:44 held up her hand she said Mr rone Mr

2:21:46 rone I think I know what resolve means I

2:21:49 said' darling what do you think it means

2:21:50 she said 'I think it

2:21:52 means promising yourself you will never

2:21:55 give

2:21:57 up I said that's

2:22:00 it Webster stand aside that is the

2:22:06 definition promise yourself you will

2:22:08 never give

2:22:10 up I asked the kids how long should the

2:22:13 a baby try to learn how to

2:22:16 walk how long how long would you give

2:22:18 your average baby before you shut him

2:22:19 off how

2:22:22 long see any mother in the world would

2:22:25 say you're crazy my baby's going to keep

2:22:27 trying until it learns how to walk what

2:22:29 a magic

2:22:34 formula now let me show you what

2:22:36 triggers all emotions into activity that

2:22:39 brings results and results is the name

2:22:42 of the game here it

2:22:44 is

2:22:45 action finally you must do something

2:22:48 about how you feel

2:22:54 Jesus the master teacher said don't just

2:22:56 be listeners be doers the world admires

2:23:01 the doers
