How To Write A Killer Script That Keeps Viewers Hooked
Kallaway · Watch on YouTube · Generated with SnapSummary · 2026-10-30

00:00 today we're talking about writing killer

00:01 scripts the reason winning creators go

00:04 viral so often is because of their

00:06 script writing you might have a great

00:08 video idea but how do you actually write

00:09 a script with a compelling story that

00:12 keeps people hooked the entire time this

00:14 is an art I've analyzed hundreds of the

00:17 top creators across every Niche and they

00:19 all run the exact same script writing

00:22 process so in this video I'm going to

00:23 break it all down this is the proven

00:25 five-step framework for how to write

00:27 killer scripts that keep viewers hooked

00:29 by the way I'm Callaway I've done over a

00:31 billion views I have a million followers

00:33 and this stuff is all I do all day long

00:35 all right let's dive in now before we

00:37 get into the script writing framework

00:38 there is a critical first piece that you

00:41 have to understand and this alone will

00:43 level up your script writing in a

00:45 massive massive way winning on social

00:47 media is all about hacking human

00:49 psychology this is the game within the

00:51 game it is the most important building

00:53 block in content now content psychology

00:56 really boils down to one single

00:58 principle expectations vers reality

01:01 expectations are what people think is

01:03 going to happen reality is what actually

01:05 happens when reality beats expectations

01:07 and things go better than expected

01:09 people are happy they keep watching and

01:11 you win but when expectations beat

01:13 reality and things go worse than

01:14 expected people are not happy they stop

01:16 watching and you lose it really is that

01:19 simple this give and take is why you

01:21 feel so good after giving a public

01:23 speech because your expectations are

01:25 super low cuz you think you're going to

01:26 bomb and then after you go and it's fine

01:28 you feel great because reality Beats

01:29 meet expectations now I start here

01:31 because understanding this expectation

01:33 vers reality psychology concept will

01:36 influence every decision you make when

01:38 you're writing a script that really is

01:39 where the sauce lies it is the black

01:42 magic that makes all this stuff really

01:44 work and if you understand that the

01:46 script writing process that I'm about to

01:47 go through becomes way easier okay so

01:49 these are the five script writing steps

01:51 in the process number one is packaging

01:53 number two is outline number three is

01:55 intro number four is body and number

01:57 five is outro I write every single

01:59 script in this exact same order now

02:01 let's take each one quickly and break

02:03 down how to do it your job when you're

02:04 writing the script is to make sure the

02:06 first few lines of the intro confirm and

02:08 ideally beat their expectations set by

02:11 the title this is called click

02:12 confirmation it's one of the most

02:14 important principles to winning on

02:15 YouTube so if Mr Beast has a title that

02:17 says I spent 100 hours inside the

02:20 pyramids then right away in the first

02:22 sentence and ideally the first intro

02:24 he's going to show you and tell you that

02:25 he's in the pyramids this would meet

02:27 expectations now to exceed expectations

02:30 he would also add on something like I

02:32 have unprecedented access to explore

02:34 pieces that have never been explored

02:35 before and this takes base expectations

02:37 the pyramids and then beats them

02:39 unprecedented access this positive gap

02:42 of reality beating expectations hooks

02:44 the viewer and it turns out this is

02:46 exactly what Jimmy does in every single

02:48 video it's exactly what every winning

02:50 Creator does in every video so before

02:52 you write any script you need to have

02:53 your video packaging dialed so you know

02:56 what to put in the intro to get this

02:58 confirmation and the package of the

03:00 video is made up of the idea title and

03:02 thumbnail now the idea is a oneline

03:04 sentence describing what the video is

03:06 about more importantly this is the pain

03:08 point that you're trying to solve for

03:09 your ideal viewer Avatar or it's the

03:12 rabbit hole you're trying to create so

03:13 they go down the loop if you don't have

03:14 a good base idea that something they'd

03:16 actually want to watch it's going to be

03:17 so much harder to write a killer script

03:19 because they're not going to be

03:20 interested in it okay now next and most

03:22 important in this packaging is the title

03:24 it's critical that you have the title

03:26 established before you write the intro

03:28 I'm not going to cover how to write a

03:30 good title in this video because that's

03:31 a whole other psychology can of worms if

03:33 you guys are interested in that let me

03:34 know in the comments and I'll make a

03:35 video on titles but the most important

03:37 thing to know about the title is that

03:38 you're trying to trigger a click

03:40 curiosity Loop does the title alone get

03:42 the viewer curious enough about the

03:44 paino or problem that they cannot resist

03:46 clicking and they have to find out what

03:48 you have to say and also based on that

03:50 title what expectations should a viewer

03:52 have coming into the video if they did

03:54 click because slight tweaks in the title

03:56 wording can completely change the

03:58 incoming expectation and again the whole

04:00 point is to have reality beat

04:01 expectations you don't know what reality

04:03 should be with the click confirmation if

04:04 you don't know what that expectation is

04:07 now again if you're bad with titles you

04:08 could use tools like one of 10 vid IQ

04:10 spotter Studio view stats there's so

04:12 many tools that allow you to remix

04:14 titles and optimize them for YouTube

04:16 that's what I'd recommend I have a full

04:17 team that kind of does the ideas and

04:19 titles for me but if you don't have that

04:20 using one of these tools is a great way

04:22 to do it now when it comes to thumbnails

04:24 most YouTube experts will demand that

04:26 you have the title and thumbnail solved

04:28 before you even start writing this

04:29 script but I don't agree with this the

04:31 title for sure but I think it's okay if

04:33 you have the thumbnail loose but not

04:35 really dialed and that's because the

04:36 creative process and back and forth that

04:38 comes with the thumbnail can be a huge

04:40 inhibitor to Action Agency and

04:42 creativity when you're writing your

04:43 script if you have to wait and delay

04:45 constantly because you're waiting for

04:46 the thumbnail to write the script it's

04:47 just going to slow you down and so in my

04:49 opinion the title is a must a loose

04:51 thumbnail idea is fine that will get

04:53 dialed in over time all right let's move

04:54 on to step two of the five-step script

04:56 writing process which is outline now

04:58 before I start writing the actual script

05:00 I really like to have a bulleted outline

05:03 on the page first and this may seem

05:05 counterintuitive You' think You' do the

05:06 intro first and then the outline and

05:08 then the body why am I doing the outline

05:09 before the intro well my take is that

05:11 anybody can learn how to write a

05:13 compelling intro it's just a few Lego

05:15 bricks I'm going to go through it in a

05:16 second once you know this formula you

05:18 can easily print the intro so I know in

05:20 the back of my mind that I can solve the

05:21 intro the real Moe the real sauce of

05:24 videos that goes from good to Great is

05:25 having something actually unique

05:27 differentiated and novel to say in the

05:30 body of the video are your points

05:32 actually unique Could you actually beat

05:33 someone's expectations because your

05:35 reality is so good at what you're saying

05:37 now uniqueness in these points can come

05:39 from the actual tip itself the process

05:41 of distillation how you actually say the

05:43 tip or the example that you use to

05:46 explain what it is I find that writing

05:48 these in a quick outline bulleted first

05:50 is a great way to gut check if you

05:52 actually have something worth saying or

05:54 you're just summarizing and

05:55 regurgitating common things if you don't

05:57 have something worse saying that's not

05:59 unique but before you move forward and

06:00 waste time writing a script go research

06:02 more go watch other source material and

06:04 try to come up with more novel points I

06:07 think one of the reasons why my videos

06:08 work so well is because I'm saying

06:09 things that nobody else is saying I am

06:11 also distilling them down and using

06:13 different examples but I'm saying things

06:14 that I've never heard people say on

06:16 YouTube remember the goal with script

06:18 writing is to beat expectations with

06:20 reality if expectations are existing

06:22 based knowledge and you're just

06:24 repeating existing base knowledge you

06:25 will not be able to beat expectations

06:27 with your reality so tactically I like

06:29 to make a quick and dirty bulleted list

06:31 and just write this out and zoom out and

06:32 just think is this unique or not and

06:35 then for each point in the list I layer

06:36 on the what the why and the how the what

06:39 is what it is the why is why it matters

06:41 and the how is how it fits in the

06:43 overall puzzle of the story and again if

06:45 I don't have unique points in the

06:47 outline I'm not moving forward I'm not

06:48 making the video now it's important to

06:49 call out all of this the idea the title

06:52 the outline is all done before breaking

06:55 ground on the script itself this is the

06:57 measure twice cut once of content I try

06:59 to only make ideas that I feel like have

07:01 a chance to do well and if it's not

07:02 going to do well I don't make them I go

07:04 back to the research process okay let's

07:06 move on to step three which is the intro

07:08 now before I write the full body of the

07:09 script I start with the intro and my

07:12 ultimate goal after establishing The

07:13 Click confirmation is to build a

07:15 curiosity Loop you want to open a rabbit

07:18 hole in the viewer's mind that they just

07:19 can't help but go down each line should

07:21 make them want to go to the next line

07:23 now I have an intro hook framework that

07:24 works every time short form long form it

07:26 works every single time and you can just

07:28 copy it I'll give it to you this is

07:30 exactly how to do it okay so part one is

07:32 to give immediate context on what the

07:34 video is about this is so the viewer can

07:36 opt in and of course confirm the click

07:38 so for example in this video

07:39 specifically the title was how to write

07:41 a killer script that keeps viewers

07:43 hooked and the first three lines of my

07:45 intro were today we're talking about

07:47 writing killer scripts the reason

07:49 winning creators go viral so often is

07:51 because of their script writing you

07:52 might have a great video idea but how do

07:54 you actually write a script with a

07:55 compelling story that keeps people

07:57 hooked the entire time so this was Tor

07:59 made to establish the context and

08:01 immediately click confirm that the video

08:03 is about script writing and keeping a

08:04 viewer hooked you want to start by

08:06 bluntly stating this as quickly as

08:08 possible okay now part two is to

08:09 establish the common take or belief so

08:12 what I like to do is establish the

08:13 conventional belief on the topic people

08:16 will get more eager to listen when they

08:17 feel like you're talking about something

08:19 they care about the easiest way to build

08:21 this common ground is by restating the

08:22 common belief because chances are if

08:24 they struggle with this topic they also

08:26 know the common belief and that is their

08:28 belief so when you restate it it helps

08:29 connect in their mind that this is

08:31 something they should care about and it

08:32 also helps set up the contrast which is

08:34 critical in part three so for the intro

08:36 for this exact video I said this this is

08:38 an art and it's one of the hardest

08:39 things to learn when you're starting out

08:41 making videos again I'm doing this

08:43 because people want you to start out

08:44 confirming the belief they already

08:46 believe before you offer a way to change

08:48 it now the next part of the intro which

08:50 is critical is building a contrarian

08:52 take or contrarian approach against this

08:55 common belief and the only way to build

08:57 that contrast between the two is

08:58 actually to State the common belief

08:59 that's why you have to start there now

09:00 part three as I said is by creating

09:02 contrast by stating a contrarian

09:04 approach so you want to offer a

09:05 contrarian take or perspective that

09:07 contradicts that common belief and this

09:09 will stun them and hold them into

09:11 needing to hear what you have to say the

09:13 best way to exceed their expectation at

09:15 that EVR moment when they're first

09:17 listening to the intro is by stating the

09:19 common belief but then that you have a

09:21 contrarian approach that they may not

09:22 have heard before so in today's video

09:24 for the intro I wrote this but the good

09:26 news is there is a right answer I've

09:28 analyzed hundreds of the creators across

09:30 every Niche and they all run the exact

09:32 same script writing process this formula

09:34 has driven hundreds of billions of views

09:36 and it works every single time this is

09:38 me contrasting against the common belief

09:41 that script writing is Art I'm saying

09:43 it's not it's science there is a formula

09:45 and I have it now right away I've nailed

09:48 the clip confirmation and I've begin to

09:49 raise their expectations of what they

09:51 believe is possible in the video because

09:52 I offer a different solution than what

09:54 they've thought of before now the last

09:55 two steps can be done in either order

09:57 but you have to do two things one a Lish

09:59 proof for why they should trust your new

10:01 approach and two give them a plan an

10:04 ordered list or steps for how you're

10:06 going to do it so in today's video I

10:07 wrote this so in this video I'm going to

10:09 break it all down this is the proven

10:10 fstep framework for how to write killer

10:12 scripts that keep viewers hooked by the

10:14 way I'm Callaway I've done over a

10:15 billion views I have a million followers

10:17 and this stuff is all I do all day long

10:19 so in this case I started with my plan

10:21 and then I lay it on the proof right at

10:22 the end by the end of this intro

10:23 framework and I'm telling you it works

10:25 for every video you have the viewer Hook

10:27 Line and Sinker by the way I know this

10:29 is is a lot to take in in one shot if

10:31 you need help actually tactically doing

10:33 this I put together a free 5-day email

10:35 series which kind of breaks down more of

10:37 these Advanced strategies in a much

10:39 easier form to digest it's called The

10:41 virality Blueprint you can grab it at

10:43 virality blueprint.com all right step

10:45 four in the script writing framework is

10:46 the body of the script and so what is

10:48 actually happening in the viewer's brain

10:50 right at this moment as the viewer

10:51 watches the intro they're compiling all

10:53 the previous knowledge they had on the

10:55 topic plus combining it with the

10:57 promises that you're making in the intro

10:59 and their new expectation is that

11:01 they're hoping they will learn something

11:02 slightly different or better than what

11:04 they already knew so for example if I'm

11:06 making a video on storytelling and the

11:07 title is how to become a master

11:09 Storyteller and the intro is I'm going

11:11 to share six new unprecedented things

11:13 that will make you a master Storyteller

11:15 then the viewer has a pretty high

11:17 expectation because they're compiling

11:18 their mental database of all the things

11:20 they've learned about storytelling in

11:21 the past and they're using those as a

11:23 baseline knowledge set for what they

11:25 already know and so their expectation is

11:27 that one of my six things or all of my

11:29 six things are going to be new different

11:31 or better than what they currently know

11:33 that's how I would exceed their

11:35 expectations now at this exact moment to

11:37 really blow their expectations away the

11:39 first point in the body that I share the

11:42 first thing they hear after the intro

11:43 has to be amazing it has to be so good

11:46 that it blows their mind that's how you

11:48 really create this big gap between

11:49 reality and expectations and this is so

11:51 critical because if your first point of

11:53 the body of your video repeats something

11:55 they've already heard or is just not

11:57 that compelling immediately they will

11:58 get disappointed and they will lose

12:00 interest in the video This Is Why when

12:02 you watch a video that's just a

12:03 generalized summary regurgitating things

12:05 that you've already heard you usually

12:07 watch one or two points and then you

12:08 bounce maybe you'll see the first point

12:10 not think it's good scroll to the

12:12 description read the timestamps see if

12:14 there's anything unique and then usually

12:15 there isn't and you leave and this is

12:17 super common because creators usually

12:19 don't take enough time to come up with

12:21 unique different and better points in

12:23 the body of their videos if you really

12:25 think about it expectations are just the

12:27 viewers hope that they're going to learn

12:29 learn something new about the topic that

12:30 they don't already know and so if you

12:32 don't give them something new there's no

12:33 way you'll beat their expectations when

12:35 you don't beat their expectations they

12:36 leave this is why the first body point

12:39 of your video has to be something new

12:41 and different and my cheat code for this

12:43 which is not intuitive is to put your

12:45 second best body point in that first

12:47 slot I'm going to explain in a second

12:48 exactly why this works so well you would

12:50 think you'd want the best stuff first

12:52 because the viewers are decaying off the

12:54 video so why hold your best thing for a

12:56 second and here's why human brains work

12:58 in patterns if you show someone one

13:00 thing that's amazing they'll think it's

13:02 cool but if you show them two things

13:04 that are amazing especially if the

13:05 second thing is better than the first it

13:07 creates a subconscious pattern where

13:09 they have to stay to see the third

13:10 because they feel this value continuing

13:12 to drip up over time if you show your

13:14 best thing first and then your second

13:16 best thing is slightly worse it trains

13:17 the viewer subconsciously that the value

13:19 will be diminishing and it's not worth

13:21 staying but if you slightly increase

13:22 from 1 to two it creates this pattern

13:24 and they have to stay this is why most

13:26 music albums put their best songs in the

13:28 third third or fourth slot if you ever

13:30 wondered that why did the single The

13:32 Banger single with the billion streams

13:33 not go first on the album you would

13:35 think when you click the album and the

13:36 first track is the best one that would

13:37 make sense well usually the first track

13:39 is an intro but it's never the single in

13:41 the second slot why is that it's for the

13:43 same reason the second track is always a

13:45 great track but it's not the best track

13:46 and so when you listen to two and three

13:48 and four you're increasing to the point

13:50 where you climax the best song at 3 or 4

13:52 that builds this pattern recognition and

13:54 makes people stay for the whole project

13:56 now that is deep deep deep psychology

13:58 that you will not hear you're anywhere

13:59 else on YouTube and if you want to learn

14:01 more about that psychology stuff these

14:02 little tweaks that just make a massive

14:04 difference this is all I talk about in

14:06 my free newsletter content department

14:07 and my free community for creators wavy

14:10 world the links are in the description

14:11 for those for each point in the body you

14:13 want to include these three things I

14:14 call it the value Loop one is context

14:17 say what it is and explain it as simple

14:19 as possible two is application say how

14:21 to do it and use as many relevant

14:23 examples to kind of articulate your

14:25 point as possible and three is framing

14:27 say why this point matters and how it

14:29 fits into the overall puzzle of the full

14:31 story the context part needs to be clear

14:33 concise and digestible the application

14:35 has to be interesting enough and easy to

14:37 digest where they can begin taking

14:39 action on their own side and the framing

14:41 needs to reorient themselves so when

14:43 they zoom out they can see why it's

14:44 worth continuing to watch the video and

14:46 this three-step frame for explaining

14:48 points in the body it suits really well

14:50 the way the brain processes information

14:53 base facts first surface level and then

14:55 slowly deepening to add inference and

14:57 connect different points now as

14:58 mentioned before you want to organize

14:59 your points in the body based on shock

15:02 value novelty and uniqueness you want

15:04 your second best point to go first your

15:05 best point second your third best third

15:07 and so on now the easiest way to learn

15:09 how to do this tactically is just study

15:11 the videos on my channel I have 23 or 24

15:13 videos every single one of them follows

15:15 this exact same framework study the

15:17 pacing and the rhythm of how I do this

15:19 it'll get you much better when you watch

15:20 you will notice this constant zoom in

15:22 and zoom out I'm constantly looking at

15:23 the big picture going down for the

15:25 tactics big picture tactics it's kind of

15:27 like a wave this is what you want to

15:28 create it adds to the comprehension it

15:30 allows people to lock into the full

15:32 story but then also extract a tactical

15:34 piece that's how you want to layer these

15:36 body points now one power tip here is

15:38 how to seamlessly transition between the

15:40 points in the body and the best way to

15:42 do this while maintaining Max retention

15:44 is called reh hooking now I talk about

15:46 mechanically how to do this in other

15:48 videos but this is a really really

15:49 important concept you basically want to

15:51 set up these mini hooks between the end

15:53 of one point and the beginning of the

15:55 next one so for example you might say

15:56 something like that point was super

15:57 important but if you don't also couple

15:59 it with this one then the magic is lost

16:01 all of a sudden that makes the viewer

16:03 have to hold for the next one if they

16:04 liked what they heard in the first one

16:05 and reh hooking really works because

16:07 people's brains are on an attention

16:09 delay as soon as they see something

16:10 they'll have max level of interest and

16:12 that will slowly start to Decay if you

16:14 don't rehook them and get their interest

16:16 peing they will eventually just bounce

16:18 okay step five in the script writing

16:19 process is the last piece is the outro

16:22 and it feels like the outro would be an

16:23 afterthought like who would be listening

16:25 to this point but you can add retention

16:27 and shares and likes and rewatches at a

16:29 much higher clip if you just do this at

16:31 the very end of the video leave them

16:32 with a high note you want to wrap up the

16:33 video in a clean way you want to

16:34 summarize those points and remind them

16:37 of the paino solve that you walk through

16:39 this is the final push to remind them

16:41 that we did in fact have reality beat

16:43 expectations and this is like the free

16:45 chocolate that the restaurant gives you

16:46 when they bring the check they're doing

16:48 that on purpose they're trying to remind

16:49 you of the good service that they

16:51 invested the whole previous two hours

16:53 it's the same psychology you want to do

16:55 this at the very end of the video

16:56 because you want to leave the viewer

16:57 with a lasting impression of wow that

16:59 was an amazing video I just remembered

17:01 all these tactics that I learned the

17:02 reality was much higher than my

17:04 expectations and this is where likes

17:06 comments shares rewatches all the good

17:08 stuff that powers the algorithm it all

17:10 kind of comes from leaving them with a

17:12 high note now before we end this video I

17:13 want to quickly share one bonus tip that

17:15 will help you rev up the conversion

17:17 between that attention and driving leads

17:20 and actual dollars from your videos a

17:22 common question I get around this script

17:23 writing process is how do I include a

17:25 call to action in my script without

17:27 completely disrupting the flow and

17:29 making it feel like an ad and my

17:31 strategy for this is what I call native

17:33 embeds what you want to do when you're

17:34 creating that outline is figure out

17:36 proactively which point naturally suits

17:39 highlighting the free resource you have

17:41 as the solve and so when you're speaking

17:42 about the point you want to frame the

17:44 pain point and then give your own

17:46 Resource as the solve it'll seem way

17:48 smoother and more seamless if you do it

17:50 this way so you can either open the loop

17:51 with a paino and then give the solve or

17:54 you can speedrun a framework in a way

17:56 that's so deep and fast that most people

17:58 won't be able to absorb and then you can

18:00 offer your free Resource as a way to

18:02 recap to review or to compress speed of

18:05 implementation if they need your help

18:06 either way you don't want it to seem

18:07 like you're breaking flow in the script

18:09 you just want to seamlessly add it in

18:11 showing it natively and then move on for

18:13 example I did this twice in this video

18:16 I'm not sure if you picked it up the

18:17 first time was when I broke down the

18:18 super super deep psychology piece and

18:20 then I said hey if you like the

18:22 psychology things that I'm talking about

18:23 and you want to go deeper I have a free

18:25 newsletter and a free community where

18:26 you can learn more I also went through

18:27 the full intro hook framework and then I

18:29 said if you want to go deeper I have a

18:31 free 5-day email series called virality

18:33 blueprint.com that you can download you

18:35 may not have even picked up that I

18:36 called those out but the key is these

18:38 are free and they actually do solve the

18:40 paino or enhance the points that I

18:42 talked about and here's one other tip

18:44 that's super helpful if you want to get

18:46 better at script writing but you're

18:47 struggling with this there's so much to

18:48 organize the intro the points actually

18:50 writing it and getting the Rhythm down

18:52 it's a lot the thing that would be

18:53 helpful is if you could organize all

18:54 your thoughts in a software and just

18:56 have it do some of that work for you so

18:58 I've been looking every for this and I

18:59 built sandcastles sandcastles a for

19:02 doing this and when you have it it

19:03 compresses 60 to 90 minutes worth of

19:06 this organizational writing work down

19:08 into 60 seconds it really is the most

19:10 magical way to do this so if you

19:11 struggle with the script writing aspect

19:13 you should look at sand castles it's one

19:14 of the best solves out there see I just

19:16 did it again that was another native

19:18 embed I tried to do that purposely cuz I

19:19 wanted to see if you would catch it but

19:21 that was me naturally integrating a

19:23 paino that we've talked about the whole

19:24 video in a way that didn't really feel

19:26 like an ad but for real if you want help

19:28 writing full short form video scripts 60

19:30 Minutes down to 60 seconds sand castle.

19:32 a is actually legit you should try it

19:33 out all right guys that's all I've got

19:35 for this video again this was the

19:36 step-by-step formula for how to write

19:38 killer scripts that keep viewers hooked

19:40 the full time I know we went super deep

19:42 into the psychology plus we broke down

19:44 the full framework and that CTA

19:46 conversion native Abed piece at the end

19:48 this was a full Master Class if you're

19:50 still with us thank you guys so much for

19:51 watching leave a comment and let me know

19:53 what you want me to cover in the next

19:54 video but until then we'll see you guys

19:56 on the next one peace
