00:00 I watched every viral YouTube video of

00:02 2023 to figure out the reason behind

00:04 going viral and this is where it gets

00:06 interesting it was not through luck I

00:09 found a framework that can be applied to

00:10 any video to keep your retention high

00:13 and it actually worked in fact I got

00:15 close to 3,000 subs from posting just

00:17 two videos and average 25k views While

00:21 others in my Niche who have more subs

00:23 struggle to average 10K views and what's

00:25 crazy is there only three steps to this

00:28 formula but each one is linked to the

00:30 the other bro I roast the hell out of

00:32 people who like have boring first 5

00:33 seconds it's brutal essentially your

00:36 title and thumbnail set expectations and

00:39 at the very beginning of the video to

00:40 minimize drop off you want to assure

00:42 them that those expectations are being

00:44 met our main objective in the first 5

00:46 seconds is to meet the viewers

00:48 expectations now a common thing I found

00:50 was that they matched the first 5

00:52 seconds with the thumbnail and the title

00:54 let's take a look at an example check

00:55 out the title and thumbnail of this

00:57 video in the thumbnail there is a

00:59 close-up shot out of Rockefeller with a

01:01 dark reddish background and oil pumps

01:03 the title of the video is Rockefeller

01:05 the world's first billionaire now let's

01:07 take a look at the first 5 Seconds of

01:09 the video there was a time when anyone

01:11 would tremble did you catch it the very

01:13 first shot closely resembles the

01:15 thumbnail there is a closeup of John D

01:17 Rockefeller dark reddish background and

01:19 oil pumps and in the next sentence you

01:21 can hear the title roeller Not only was

01:23 he the world's first billionaire by

01:25 using the first 5 Seconds to immediately

01:27 match the title and thumbnail he

01:29 minimized is drop off from the very

01:31 get-go now after applying this two-step

01:33 formula in the first 5 Seconds of the

01:35 video next comes these three core

01:37 elements of the hook which are context

01:39 Stakes payoff and curiosity Gap and this

01:42 is where it gets interesting because

01:44 this formula is used throughout all of

01:46 these videos let's hop back to one of

01:48 them to see these elements in action we

01:51 last left off this video after he showed

01:52 John D Rockefeller see if you can follow

01:55 along Not only was he the world's first

01:57 billionaire he's one of the richest

01:59 people in history history his Empire

02:01 Standard Oil became the most dominant

02:03 Monopoly in the world by brutally

02:04 crushing competitors taking control of

02:06 multiple Industries bribing the

02:08 government into submission and treating

02:10 business as if it was war because of his

02:12 ruthless business practices and

02:14 secretive deals Rockefeller made many

02:16 enemies his career is filled with bitter

02:18 rivalries like with Andrew carnegi and

02:21 even ferocious battles against US

02:24 presidents after matching the thumbnail

02:26 and the title he outlines the entire

02:28 plot and if you've seen the complete

02:30 video you would know what I'm talking

02:32 about initially he gives visual context

02:35 by showcasing the company name and

02:37 proceeds to mentioned that he ruthlessly

02:38 dominated competitors gained control of

02:41 various Industries engaged in government

02:42 bribery and executed secretive deals

02:45 following this the video delves into the

02:47 consequences of such methods and this is

02:49 what I call Stakes SL payoff then to

02:52 heighten your interest and build up your

02:54 curiosity he starts mentioning Andrew

02:56 Carnegie and US presidents to entice the

02:58 viewer to stick around and watch till

03:00 the end to figure out why he went

03:02 through such links and he did all of

03:03 that in just 20 seconds and his video is

03:06 around 49 minutes but it doesn't stop

03:08 there in addition to those three core

03:10 elements he adds one secret element

03:12 which Mr best explains better here so at

03:14 the very beginning match the

03:15 expectations and then you want to exceed

03:17 them so you want to assure people that

03:19 what they clicked on is what they're

03:20 getting and then blow their mind and be

03:22 like but you're also getting even more

03:24 now that we have caught the attention of

03:26 the viewer we need to keep it until the

03:28 end and this is where it gets tricky

03:30 because there are different Frameworks

03:31 for this but the main rules you want to

03:33 focus on are good pacing visual variety

03:36 and consistent

03:38 contrast you know certain things like if

03:40 I just talk to a camera for 10 seconds

03:42 without a cut like a lot of people will

03:44 just like get bored or the lose interest

03:46 and this is what you call Visual variety

03:48 what you want to do is cut between shots

03:50 at least every 3 to 5 Seconds now you

03:53 might think that's impossible if you

03:54 have a faceless Channel especially if

03:56 you focus heavily on Motion Graphics but

03:59 the trick is to add movement zooming in

04:01 and out between Clips to keep things

04:03 visually Dynamic and one of the best

04:05 examples for this is in this

04:06 rockerfeller video take a look at the

04:08 timing of his movements during this clip

04:10 on the Family Farm Bill did just about

04:12 anything else he was an athlete

04:14 ventriloquist Hunter hypnotist and even

04:16 an animal trainer once he won a bear in

04:18 a competition kept it as a pet and

04:20 taught it to do tricks build did a

04:22 little of this a little of that but not

04:25 much of anything bill would also

04:27 spontaneously skip town in the middle of

04:29 the night leaving John and his siblings

04:30 to fend for themselves for weeks or even

04:32 months only to the concept for this is

04:34 very simple you want to feed the brain

04:36 new information consistently to make

04:38 them forget the time just like Tik Tok

04:40 does to you you don't want to be stuck

04:42 in a frame for too long unless it has

04:44 meaning like building tension SL

04:46 suspense but even with these frequent

04:48 changes in the screen you still can't

04:50 keep the video interesting forever and

04:51 because of Tik Tok the attention spans

04:53 are shorter than ever and it's a fact

04:55 that Mr best states here it's very hard

04:57 with a single storyline if you're doing

04:59 like a double digit minute video to just

05:01 have that one thing grip their entire

05:04 attention throughout the whole video and

05:06 pay off at the end um and that's where

05:07 the second rule comes in consistent

05:09 contrast and Mr Beast does this by

05:11 introducing Side Stories so typically if

05:13 you're doing a longer video you should

05:15 introduce like a Side Story and like re

05:17 you should have some plan halfway

05:19 through like to re-engage them so they

05:20 don't just get bored you know what I

05:22 mean like but before you say wait I

05:24 can't do that in my style of videos

05:26 there are different ways of

05:27 incorporating this rule which dodford

05:29 does best he does this by blending the

05:31 footage in audio of interviews you have

05:34 such an incredible talent for for

05:37 physical comedy where did that come from

05:41 desperation desperation I had a sick mom

05:44 man I wanted to make her feel

05:46 better I just always felt like like that

05:48 was my job I had a job at least in my

05:51 own mind and that was to make my mother

05:53 feel better funny people have uh have

05:55 sick moms generally it's born out of

05:58 wanting to make somebody feel better

06:01 okay but that's too hard to do there is

06:02 a simpler version of this that I did in

06:04 this video by adding clips from Mr best

06:06 interviews or playing different clips

06:08 from videos which I hope it worked now

06:10 the final rule which is the most

06:12 important of them all is good pacing now

06:14 you probably seen this in one of these

06:16 videos but let's shift it toward YouTube

06:18 most creators will focus on the

06:20 beginning of the video and sometimes the

06:22 end too which is what I used to do but

06:24 creators like Mr best create frequent

06:26 energy Cycles shifting between high and

06:28 lows what I mean by this depends on the

06:30 video with dodford each cycle introduces

06:33 a new stage of life for Jim Carrey the

06:35 cycle starts with a high energy dramatic

06:37 quote of him followed by the lower

06:39 energy of what led to that quote or a

06:40 series of event that proves it now I

06:42 used to go up to M Hall and drive every

06:44 night sit on the side of the road look

06:47 out at the lights and and go I'm a

06:49 popular actor every director wants to

06:52 work with me I had nothing at that time

06:54 so it was like it but it just made me

06:56 feel better and I used to like open my

06:57 arms and imagine things you know

07:00 and this is what keeps the pacing up and

07:02 keeps you the viewer wanting to know

07:04 more right up until the end of the video

07:06 now each of his Cycles tend to be

07:07 between 2 to 4 minutes finally we have

07:10 arrived at the final seconds which are

07:12 more important than what people think

07:13 and that's why most people will see a

07:15 long drop off at the end of their videos

07:17 which hurts the overall retention to

07:19 avoid this you need to introduce a big

07:21 payoff and end it on a high note good

07:23 afternoon good evening and good

07:26 night just walk through it

07:30 now one final secret to have a high

07:32 retention which Mr Beast recommends God

07:34 dang it put it all on the checklist so I

07:36 can tell you the things to do and then

07:38 going forward just check them off before

07:39 you upload a video you need to go back

07:41 and check every item on your checklist

07:43 and cut out every dull moment and have

07:45 your friends watch it before you upload

07:47 it
