8 steps to get your sh** together
Better Ideas · Watch on YouTube · Generated with SnapSummary · 2026-05-07

00:00 - Here are eight steps to get your (censored) together.

00:02 Step one, tell no one.

00:04 The urge to tell everybody you know,

00:06 especially the people closest to you

00:08 about this big change you're gonna make

00:10 is often overwhelming because it feels really good

00:13 to announce to everybody

00:14 that you're gonna start going to the gym every single day,

00:17 or that you're gonna read a book a week for a whole year,

00:19 or whatever the hell you want to do.

00:21 Whatever it is, it's exciting to tell people.

00:23 You know, you're thinking to yourself,

00:25 "Man, it would be really cool to be this person."

00:27 You start imagining it as if it's real, right?

00:30 You imagine the more jacked version of yourself,

00:33 the more well-read version of yourself,

00:35 the person whose house is always clean.

00:37 You start to get infatuated with this future projection.

00:40 So you let your friends know, you let your family know.

00:43 But I would urge you to resist the urge to do this,

00:46 not because it's useless,

00:47 but because it's genuinely destructive.

00:49 Because think about it,

00:51 what's the best possible thing

00:52 that they could say as a response to you in that situation?

00:56 You say to them, "I'm gonna start going to the gym

00:58 every single day."

00:59 You would want them to say something like,

01:01 "Oh wow! That's great.

01:03 Good for you. I can't wait to see the results."

01:06 But if that is the response, what will that do to you?

01:09 It'll make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

01:11 You just gained a bunch of praise,

01:13 even though you did absolutely nothing.

01:15 You've been generously rewarded for inaction.

01:18 And if the response is completely different,

01:20 you know, if it's a very negative response.

01:22 If they call you out on your bull (censored)

01:24 and they say, "Eh, good luck sticking to that."

01:26 You might take offense to that.

01:28 You might say to yourself,

01:29 "Damn, maybe I don't have what it takes."

01:32 Or you'll be the kind of person who says,

01:34 "F you, I'll show you."

01:36 And then you end up being very consistent

01:38 for a short while out of spite.

01:39 This is a very immature reason

01:41 to start doing something that you already know

01:44 you want to do, right?

01:45 Who are you doing this for?

01:46 To prove the haters wrong?

01:48 Nobody hates you.

01:49 And if people somehow do hate you,

01:51 why would you do anything for them, right?

01:54 Why would you say like, "Oh, these people hate me,

01:56 so I am going to act and live my life differently."

01:59 That gives them all the power.

02:00 You see what I'm getting at here?

02:01 It's pretty much lose lose all across the board

02:04 if you get in the habit

02:05 of just talking about this person you're gonna be.

02:07 So, if you're very excited,

02:09 and rightfully so, about a big change you're gonna make,

02:12 keep that to yourself.

02:14 Use that energy and that excitement

02:16 to actually do the thing.

02:17 And let the results of your consistency

02:20 be something that's discovered rather than announced.

02:23 Step number two, start before you're ready.

02:26 The feeling of readiness

02:27 is something that will almost never come.

02:30 You don't need new shoes, you don't need the perfect system,

02:33 you don't need to remember anything that

02:35 that one health guru said on that YouTube Short

02:38 that you watched the other day, and you can't find it.

02:40 Forget about it, you need less information,

02:42 not more information.

02:43 Transformation is something that happens through action.

02:46 So prove to yourself that you can act

02:49 regardless of the weather,

02:50 regardless of your levels of motivation,

02:53 or the amount of sleep that you got last night.

02:55 All of these things are helpful,

02:56 but they're not requirements.

02:58 You can do the thing anyways.

03:00 You've always been able to.

03:02 Do it now and figure out the details along the way.

03:05 Step number three, don't hide.

03:07 So a lot of people, when they want to transform their life,

03:10 get very infatuated with this idea

03:13 of going away up a mountain somewhere,

03:16 isolating themselves away from society,

03:19 self-improving in a bubble,

03:20 and then coming back as this unrecognizable,

03:24 superior version of themself.

03:27 And everyone claps.

03:28 It's very obvious

03:29 to see how this is a extremely insecure mindset, right?

03:33 It rides pretty heavily

03:34 on people having some sort of reaction to you or something.

03:37 Like, "Oh wow, Lisan al Gaib!"

03:39 But again, you have to ask yourself,

03:41 who are you doing this for?

03:43 Is this not your life? Who do you want to be?

03:46 That's the great thing about life.

03:48 You get to be who you want to be.

03:50 So don't isolate yourself and only participate in society

03:54 when you're this improved version of yourself.

03:57 You're okay now.

03:58 Spend time with the people that you care about.

04:00 Go do the things that you want to do today.

04:03 Improve what you want to improve on the backend, right?

04:06 That's healthy.

04:06 But don't somehow twist this whole self-improvement thing

04:09 with self-hatred.

04:10 Do it because it's good for you

04:12 and it feels good to feel good.

04:13 Step four, stay on track.

04:15 Life is like a train, and it's leading you somewhere,

04:19 and there's no way to stop the train, right?

04:21 You can't stop time.

04:23 You will always end up at a different destination.

04:26 There's no such thing is staying in the same place,

04:30 because time won't allow for it.

04:31 All you can do is pay attention

04:33 to where the train is currently going.

04:36 What's the trajectory? And do you need to change course?

04:39 Will you end up in your desired destination?

04:42 Doing something positive every single day

04:45 is like making sure you don't veer off course.

04:48 Keep in mind to what the ultimate destination is,

04:51 where are you going and where do you want to go?

04:54 Making substantial progress in your life

04:56 is a lot easier when you realize

04:58 that it was never about climbing a huge mountain.

05:01 You never needed to make a huge journey up Mount Everest

05:04 in order to change something.

05:06 It was always about simple decisions,

05:08 decisions that you make every single day.

05:10 It's just about bringing consciousness to those decisions

05:13 and then doing the better thing instead of the worst thing.

05:16 So to bring this back to like going to the gym,

05:18 it's probably the easiest example.

05:20 Becoming a healthy person,

05:22 to achieve, you know, a physique that you want.

05:25 It's never been about going to the gym super hard one day,

05:28 getting super motivated, you know,

05:30 watching all the necessary clips on YouTube,

05:32 getting super jacked up,

05:33 and then going to the gym really hard.

05:36 All it is, is a decision you're already familiar with.

05:39 When you get that urge,

05:40 when you get that sort of conflict in your mind about,

05:43 "Should I go to the gym right now or should I not?"

05:45 And you say, "Eh, you know, I'll go tomorrow."

05:48 That's all it is.

05:49 That is all it is.

05:51 It's finding a way to just say, "Yeah, what the hell?

05:55 I'll go to the gym today."

05:57 That's it.

05:58 Just doing the better thing instead of the worst thing

06:00 is the answer to everything.

06:03 We would like to think that the answer

06:05 to all of our life's problems

06:07 is some other conflict that we're not already familiar with.

06:10 It can't be that little thing.

06:12 That's all it is, unfortunately.

06:13 Before we dive into our next tip,

06:15 I just want to give a big thank you to AG1

06:18 for sponsoring this video.

06:19 As you guys probably know at this point,

06:21 AG1 is my favorite supplement,

06:23 and that's because there's no competing

06:25 with its nutritional profile.

06:26 It's packed with over 75 vitamins, minerals,

06:29 and whole foods-sourced ingredients in every single scoop.

06:33 AG1 makes it extremely convenient

06:35 and easy to give your body everything it needs

06:38 to stay focused and energized throughout the day.

06:41 I'm personally a huge fan of the travel packs,

06:43 especially if I'm on the road,

06:45 if I'm in a different country,

06:46 it's just a really convenient way

06:48 to give myself nutritional support.

06:50 So if you're interested in joining me

06:52 in this extremely simple health optimization habit,

06:55 which I've been partaking in for years,

06:57 then if you click my link in the description below

07:00 or scan the QR code you're seeing on the screen right now.

07:03 You'll also get a year's supply of their vitamin D3

07:06 and K2 complex,

07:07 as well as five AG1 travel packs with your first purchase.

07:11 Once again, use my link in the description below,

07:14 or scan the QR code,

07:15 and thanks again to AG1 for sponsoring this video.

07:18 Step number five, grease the grooves.

07:21 I cannot stress enough the importance of taking advantage

07:24 of environmental cues

07:26 to make it as easy as possible to stay on the path.

07:30 Everybody is aware that if their Xbox is visible,

07:33 they're more likely to play it.

07:34 That if junk food is in the house,

07:35 they're more likely to eat it.

07:37 Our environment shapes our mindset and our behaviors

07:40 more than we probably realize,

07:43 but we can take advantage of this fact

07:44 and set traps of growth.

07:46 It's extremely easy to take your vitamins every single day

07:50 if they are sitting out on display

07:53 where you tend to drink water.

07:54 That is basically the only reason

07:56 why I ever take vitamins, ever.

07:58 Another little hack that gets me into the gym,

08:00 I'm addicted to caffeine.

08:02 So what I've done recently is instead of quitting caffeine,

08:05 'cause that would be ridiculous.

08:06 What am I insane?

08:07 I take advantage of my caffeine addiction.

08:10 I use it as a strength.

08:12 I usually have three cups of coffee in a day,

08:14 two in the morning.

08:14 So one when I first wake up, another one like right after.

08:18 And then there's this period of time

08:20 where I want that third cup of coffee

08:23 sometime after lunch, so around 02:00 PM.

08:25 So what I've done

08:26 is I don't let myself have that third cup of coffee.

08:30 Instead, it has to be pre-workout.

08:32 My emotions, my little monkey brain wants a pick me up.

08:36 It requires a pick me up.

08:37 I say to myself,

08:39 "You can have a pick me up a scoop of pre-workout."

08:41 When I have the pre-workout,

08:43 I find myself automatically setting off a chain reaction,

08:46 putting on my gym shoes, and heading to the gym.

08:49 Work with what you've got.

08:50 Survey your life

08:51 and all the little weird tendencies that you have

08:54 and all of your insanities, and use it to your advantage.

08:58 Hack your environment and your behavior

09:00 and your current lifestyle to work for you.

09:02 Make it as easy as possible to do what's good for you

09:05 and what you want to do,

09:07 and as difficult and strenuous,

09:09 and kind of inconvenient as possible

09:11 to do what's bad for you.

09:12 And leave a comment saying,

09:13 "Joey, I like your mustache," or, roast me.

09:17 Step number six, do it your way.

09:19 I don't know what you're going through.

09:21 I don't know the reasons

09:22 why you would want to get your shit together,

09:24 but nothing is more powerful

09:26 than your own reasons for doing this.

09:28 Ask yourself, "How do you want to live this life?

09:31 Who is the person that you want to be?

09:33 And in what ways do you tend to fail achieving that?

09:36 How can you course-correct"

09:38 The answers to these personal questions

09:40 are by far the biggest motivator

09:43 that will help you stay on track.

09:44 Figure out a way that works for you,

09:46 figure out a way that compliments

09:48 your little insanities that you have.

09:50 Find a way to work with your weird procrastination habits,

09:54 your strange, intrusive thoughts,

09:56 your freakish brain that you might have.

09:58 Who cares?

10:00 You know what you're like, you know how you tend to fail,

10:03 so work with yourself and do it your way.

10:06 You don't need an aha moment.

10:08 You just need to see the truth.

10:10 Become conscious.

10:11 Which leads directly into step number seven,

10:15 which is pay attention.

10:17 Once you've been on the path for a while,

10:19 pay attention to how you feel.

10:21 Notice how much better it feels to live in a reality

10:25 where you've consistently been who you want to be.

10:28 Doing what's good for you, more often, more frequently,

10:32 literally feels better right here, right now.

10:36 This feeling is why it's worth it.

10:39 It feels better to be alive

10:41 knowing that you're on the righteous path

10:43 rather than on the path to destruction.

10:46 Like the trains I was talking about,

10:48 it feels good knowing that you are on the right track.

10:51 Your existence feels better,

10:54 so pay attention to that feeling.

10:56 When you realize just how much better you feel now,

10:59 it'll become obvious that white-knuckle tactics

11:02 and little tips and tricks and mental hacks to stay on track

11:05 become completely obsolete.

11:07 You don't need that stuff anymore

11:09 because it's so obviously better

11:11 that you wouldn't want to go back.

11:13 People who conquer addictions for their whole life

11:16 really understand this feeling.

11:17 It's not like they're sitting there

11:19 free from the shackles of their addiction,

11:21 feeling deprived and super pent up

11:24 and angry that they can't go back, right?

11:26 They realize that it feels better to be free.

11:29 They don't need to do that anymore.

11:31 So that's the type of truth I'm talking about.

11:33 When you've been on the righteous path for a while,

11:37 then, the benefits of transcending mediocrity

11:40 are no longer this distant hypothetical

11:42 that you have to think about and conjure.

11:44 The benefits become inarguable.

11:47 They become your overwhelming reality

11:49 that you enjoy in the present moment.

11:51 That's when you know that things have clicked.

11:54 Step eight, rejoice.

11:56 Take time to reflect

11:58 and be grateful that you're on the righteous path.

12:01 Now, this might sound like a waste of time, or very woo woo,

12:04 but it is very important

12:05 because what a lot of people tend to do,

12:07 they're starting to actually live the life

12:11 that they want to live, and they start feeling really good.

12:13 And then this little voice creeps in, a voice of regret,

12:16 of bitterness for not starting earlier.

12:19 You know, for all this wasted time.

12:21 You know, "I wasted so much time.

12:23 I'm so old now.

12:24 Why didn't I start doing this when I was way younger?"

12:27 Stay on top of this little voice.

12:29 It is absolutely useless and destructive.

12:31 Because the truth is,

12:32 there could have been a million reasons

12:34 why you didn't start exactly when you did,

12:37 but you're on the path now, right?

12:40 You are in the best possible reality that you can be in

12:43 in this moment.

12:45 All of the failed mindsets and white-knuckle tactics

12:48 that you had to try out led you to this moment,

12:51 the moment that worked.

12:53 So rejoice and be grateful that you got here,

12:56 because not everybody does.

12:57 It feels good to feel good, be at peace.

13:01 Because as Seneca once said,

13:03 "The secret of change is to focus all your energy,

13:07 not on fighting the old, but by building the new,

13:10 and liking this video."

13:11 Because when you actually hit the like button,

13:13 the video genuinely does do so much better.

13:16 You could see it with the last video.

13:18 The last video was a banger.

13:19 If you haven't watched it, go watch it.

13:20 But so many of you hit the like button

13:22 because I said to hit the like button,

13:24 and it got way more views

13:26 than the previous couple of videos.

13:27 So it does make a huge difference,

13:29 and I really appreciate it.

13:30 Other than that, thanks for watching.

13:32 We'll catch you in the next video.

13:34 - [Narrator] If your Uranus was this big,

13:35 it would be a black hole.
